"i'm not like henry, mom. i can't forgive and forget and move on. i'm not saying that you should have let the wraith get to her but what about graham, huh? there are unmarked graves in the woods. rows of them. dozens and dozens. if you know where to look. i took pictures." her hands fly upwards to tie her hair into a ponytail. "and after running into someone who claimed they couldn't feel a thing, i find it hard to believe that she returned all of the hearts she took."

there is rage and sadness and magic and indignation and hope is still gritting her teeth. trying to keep a lid on everything that bothers her, lest her magic spikes more than it already has.

"she gets to be mayor and she gets to be queen and she gets everything she's ever wanted and i'm just supposed to be okay with the fact that there are still people in town without their hearts, that there are people whose families are fractured and shattered. i'm supposed to be okay with the fact that she held a ten year old accountable instead of her own mom? like, i get that she did it in that moment but after she grew up? after the curse got broken by you? therapy. she should have booked an appointment with archie or anita. grandma still has nightmares about being locked in, about going to sleep and never waking up. grandma still has residual trauma. has she really forgiven regina or is she just holding her hand and babying her because she's afraid that regina's gonna get pissed and cast another curse again if she doesn't? except nooooo, of course regina wouldn't. she'd never. she's changed now. and i'm just supposed to take everyone's word for it even though she's exhibited no behavior that would indicate said change properly. she just went stealth mode and no one called her out."

hope sighs, then.

"and what about rumple? he got hurt, yes. but he also hurt so many people too. and nobody calls him out on it either because of his magic and because of his dirt on everyone." she shakes her head, sinking down on the couch. "no one holds them accountable and i hate it."

hazel eyes close briefly and then open again. "does it even matter in the end, wanting things to be fair and just for everyone in town and not just our immediate family? am i wasting my time and everyone else's on this when we're all gonna be dust and shadow in the end, anyways?"

hope's magic is a lot stronger and a lot more potent than people thought it would be. it actually powers her body. and she expends a lot of energy all day, every day, trying to keep it all together. she needs a lot of food and a lot of sleep to keep functioning.

wednesday verse courtesy of me seeing the cutest barbie wolf (aka enid) on the dash because of @venustrape: five hours and forty one minutes. that's how long it would take to drive from storybrooke, maine to jericho, vermont and vice versa. her family is five hours and forty one minutes away from her. and if they need her, all she has to do is call them and they'll hop in the car or use their magic to get there. whichever comes to mind first. hope is absolutely terrified because she's never been away from home for so long before. (extended trips to misthaven / the enchanted forest don't count because it's essentially exploring in her own backyard.) but nevermore academy is a good place for the magically inclined. or so she's been told. hope exists on the fringes. blends in well enough until she doesn't. until the truth gets out that she's the daughter of the savior and a well known and fearsome pirate captain with strong magic and a stronger sense of justice. of course she gets roped into the monster 'hunt'. of course she says yes.

Henry has the Heart of the Truest Believer. So it would make sense that he looks at the world as it could be - as it should be - and holds the people in it to that standard. Just by being who he is and exuding that energy. Just by believing. Especially the ones who needed someone to see them, to believe that they could put in the work to change their mindset and behavior. But Hope has no such heart. And she looks at the world through a different lens. A yes we are and are descended of fairy tale figures but we do live in the real world and there should be very real consequences type of lens. Regina hurt so many people. Not just her immediate family. And the same goes for Rumple. Of course, Hope doesn't want them dead or banished because she recognizes that they have loved ones in town. But Hope still feels as though no one holds them accountable. So she will do it. Even if it hurts. Even if no one will understand. Even if her efforts go unnoticed. It's the right thing to do. Hope can't just ignore that.

Aside from her immediate family, Belle is her favorite person in town. Hope can often be found in the library. If she's not there, nor at home, nor at school, she can be found in the harbor, sitting on the same bench her parents sat at, years ago, staring at the sea. Other times, she's seen jogging around town.
