I have a couple of questions regarding the post about polycount you made a while ago: I've found contradictory instructions on which polycount value to look at in different tutorials. As far as I understand it now, you'd want to look at the MLOD 00000000 High detail mesh, but another tutorial says look at the MODL, which is actually the low resolution one. Which polycount values did you look at for your list of average polycount for EA items? The MODL one or the highest MLOD one?

My second question is: How did you open the EA items that came with the game in order to check the polycount? Do you know a tutorial? I tried googling it but couldn't find any tutorial on how to do it…

I used this tutorial by @simlicious, which explains how to use TSR Workshop to check polycounts. For my average polycounts of EA items project, I always used the polycount of the mesh with the highest level of detail.

Using TSRW to check EA item polycounts

To check the polycount of an in-game EA item using TSRW, follow the tutorial I linked above. However, instead of clicking “New import,” you’ll select the category of the item you’re looking for under “Clone an item,” such as Clothing, Makeup/Facial Overlay, Hair, Accessory, Object, etc. From there, navigate to the item you want, and then the instructions stay the same: find the “Mesh” tab and select “Highest level of detail” from the dropdown menu (or whichever lod you want to check).

Extracting EA Meshes with S3PE

I’ve always used TSRW to extract EA meshes because it works well for me, and that’s how I first learned to do it. But there are other methods too, and maybe this post could help: How to extract items from the game, the KL way. (I've never done this).

MODL/MLOD

I hadn’t used the S3pe method for checking polycounts since TSRW worked fine for me, but your ask made me curious, so I tried following this tutorial. You’re right—the MODL is showing the polycount for lower level of detail rather than the highest, which seems to contradict other instructions.

I’m wondering if someone more knowledgeable than me could provide further explanation on why we might want to check the MODL file instead of the highest level of detail in this context—I might be missing something. :)

Anyways, for my project of recording average polycounts of objects and CAS items, I used the highest level of detail for reference, based on my findings in TSRW!

Confession: I've never played in Sunlit Tides before, but I opened it up for some storytelling stuff and was kind of blown away by how beautiful it is.

I feel like there's so much I still haven't experienced in The Sims 3 because I move so slowly with my gameplay and/or I tend to repeat similar storylines instead of branching out.

For example, despite owning all the expansions/store content and playing this game since its release, I haven't played in most of the store worlds, and I've barely touched anything from a few of the expansion packs (like Pets, Showtime, or Into the Future!) 🙈 Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I need to do a store world legacy on the side or something....!

Frida: What? I just signed off on the delivery like you told me to!

Jared: You should’ve checked! How do you not notice when we get the wrong order?

Frida: I—I don’t know. The delivery guy just hands it over! You’re the one who makes the orders, not me!

Jared: Alright, I have to check this. Sometimes they put shit in the wrong box. Our menu is utterly fucked for tomorrow if this isn’t ground beef.

Jared: Holy shit… Goth, you gotta take look at this.

Frida: Um, Jared? What the hell is that? That must be thousands of Simoleons!

Jared: By the way, you know that kid you stood up for? That was Connor. My little brother. That was… that was good of you. I didn’t know it was you.

Frida: Really? Oh my god—Connor. Yeah, that was his name. He didn’t deserve to be treated like that. Erik was awful to him.

Jared: The second I turned 18, I told Connor to pack a bag, and we moved to Sunset Valley. My dad… he wasn’t a good guy. I just wanted to protect my brother.

Frida: I wish my brother had cared enough to protect me... I came back to Sunset Valley trying to leave my past behind, but in some ways, I still haven’t forgiven Gunther.

Jared: You might be surprised. He might have protected you in ways you don’t even know. That’s how it was with me and Connor back then. There are things he still doesn’t know, and I plan to keep it that way.

Jared: *chuckles*

Frida: What are you laughing at?

Jared: I feel a little used, honestly. Usually a girl wines and dines me before she earns the privilege of wearing my clothes.

Frida: What, do you want me to take it off?

Jared: Now who’s the one sounding inappropriate?

Frida: Oh my god, I didn’t mean it like that.

Jared: Wait, what is that on the shelf? I didn’t order ground turkey. Fuck, did you get the wrong shit again this morning, Goth?"

Jared: I’m the one who—

Jared: Well, I’m the one who started the fight with Erik at that party when all that shit went down back in the day. I remember you, you know. I had just moved here, with my little brother...

Frida: *laughs* You started that fight? I hate to break it to you, but it looks like we have something in common after all, Frio.

Jared: Except one of us had rich parents to bail them out of trouble, and the other didn't. We're not the same, Princess. Don’t kid yourself.

Frida: *sighs* You’re really difficult to talk to, you know? It’s like you’re determined to hate me no matter what! Honestly, I give up…You’re obviously going to judge me no matter what.

Frida: Shit, it’s freezing in here. I’m gonna die of hypothermia stuck in a freezer with Jared fucking Frio. Could’ve at least been stuck with someone who wasn’t an ass—

Jared: Here, put on my chef’s coat, Goth. You’re shivering.

Frida: Oh, um… thanks. Won’t you be cold?

Jared: Don’t worry about me, I’m a warm-blooded guy.

Frida: How did you manage to make that sound inappropriate?

Jared: I think the words you're looking for are “thank you”—if they're even in your vocabulary. And maybe, just maybe, lay off calling me an asshole. It’s kind of starting to hurt my feelings.
