The War is just Beginning
So here's a thought. Women have been having abortions for centuries. CENTURIES. But do you know who historically provided these abortions? Wise women, medicine women, herbalists. If it was discovered the woman had been pregnant and then drank a medicine to end said pregnancy, it was no longer medicine, now it was a potion. The one to make the medicine/potion was now a witch. And what happened to witches? They were put to gruesome and cruel deaths. The poor girls that used the potion had the option to throw the herbalist under the bus claiming bewitchment, or be put to deaths themselves as witches. Now why does this sounds so familiar? They are bringing back the witch hunts. THEY ARE BRINGING BACK THE WITCH HUNTS.

Wedding Rituals
It's so funny to me how pagan traditions and rituals get incorporated into things without the common folk realizing.
I've been online wedding planning, trying to figure it all out. I stumbled upon a list of alternative unity ceremonies. And almost every single one has pagan ritual behind it. Like people don't even realize how much pagan tradition is still around in celebrations. I'm not just talking about weddings, I mean most any celebration.
Anyway, this list had the same ritual in every element (earth, fire, water, air) to combine two separates into one (lighting a candle, wine pouring, sand art, tree planting, canvas paint pouring, colored water pouring, etc.), it had the equivalent of spell casting by a coven (you pass the rings around to all the guests who say a prayer, bless them, send love and well wishes into the rings), a different spell involving spices (the couple pick out spices by what they represent and then combine them into one and use the mix through out the marriage, and that's pretty strong kitchen magick), another coven like ritual of candle lighting (the couple light a single candle together, then use that candle to light up the candles the wedding party are holding, who in turn light the candles of the guest, who light the next persons until everyone has a candle that was lit by the original flame, again pretty strong magick), a sealing ceremony (the couple fill a box with mementos from dating and their happy times together, love letters to each other, advice from guests, etc. and they seal it, to be opened on a designated anniversary) and included hand-fasting and jumping the broom (until this list, I thought both of those were explicitly Pagan). The only one expressly christian, was the making of a cross together.
Now all of these are STRONG magick, and people don't even realize it. The author opened up with a suggestion that these ceremonies are for less religious people. What they ACTUALLY meant was that these are not Christian ceremonies, except for the last one. But the fact that pagan rituals are seen as so normal, I love that. Keep on doing it! Paganism isn't evil or bad. It's nature. It's beautiful.

something i wish i had realized earlier: you can write poems on the same subject more than once. you can write, paint, draw the same thing over and over if you want to. you can spend your whole life making art about oranges. i think i always felt this pressure to get it right the first time like i couldn’t go back and use that inspiration again. but you can. you can go back and revisit it. you can pick up the conversation again and again if you have more to say.

So I have been in the process of dyeing my hair for about a month now. I have naturally dark brown hair with red tones. So i have been lifting color without bleaching my hair and taking a slower but healthier route. My ultimate goal was purple, like a nice deep royal purple. However my hair just isn’t meant to be purple. First time around it turned out a pretty auburn red. This second time I opted for more blue in the mix. I obviously over compensated. Honestly, I never thought I could achieve this color without ruining my hair. With all the red my hair has, and has a tendency to hold when dyed, I thought I’d have to bleach my hair repeatedly. However, this happy accident occurred. I now have the most gorgeous cerulean blue hair ever. Plus the fact that it matches my eyes? That is priceless!

🦇Midnite Visitors🦇
So my first midnite visitor appeared mid January. I had prayed to Hecate as I was laying in bed, asking for dreams and guidance. I also promised the sacrifice of a chicken carcass. Calm down, I didn't kill an innocent chicken. I repurposed the bones and other goodies from a family dinner. Anywho, that night I received intense dreams and was woken by a bat circling my room. It took me a while to recognize what it actually was because I couldn't find my glasses, and am blind as a bat without them. Of course I tried to open the back door to let the poor creature return to the night, but she refused to leave. I went to fetch my partner, telling them there was a bat in the bedroom. They of course thought I was high on drugs or still dreaming. Come back to the room, and we can't find the bat, anywhere. Of course now I'm freaking out, thinking maybe I did dream it. They go back to watching tv, I go back to bed. The next morning, I spend my whole pot of coffee thinking about my dreams and the bat. I try to research bat symbolism, but nothing I'm finding matches the feeling I got from the night before. Then I decide to reference Hecate's animal symbols. I thought I rembered a bat being one, but wanted to confirm. And looky there, a bat surely is on the list. So now it makes sense, and I know I saw a bat. I return to the bedroom and immediately spot the bat in the corner, just hanging out. I don my winter gloves since they are nice and thick. I could cup the little thing in my hand, so it's tiny teeth couldn't really do any damage, but just in case I'd rather be safe. I calmly persuade her to crawl into the metal pot I have so I can transport her safely back outside. As I released her back into the cold winter I once again sent prayers out to Hecate, thanking her. When the little creature took flight I felt such an intense euphoria I knew she was magick. Since that night I have had 4 more midnite visitors. It's wonderful to have made such a connection with my Goddess. That she sends me her creatures and dreams is amazing. I am beyond blessed. When the Gods return your attention, it's such a powerful bond. Hecate has been one of my patron Goddesses since I first took an interest in magick and paganism. But up until now she had never shown herself so clearly. But these bats show her favor.

Devil May Cry
The Devil may cry
As I close my eyes
And lie down to sleep
For the very last time
Tears of sorrow
Will roll down his cheeks
Fall to the floor
And sink to the deep
He'll lift up my head
Place a kiss on my lips
A rose on my chest
With frost on the tips
The petals will melt
And run down as blood
My own will spill forth
Becoming a flood
He'll be caught in the flow
Of all of my pain
All of my suffering
Will fall down as rain
He'll see our future
What could have been
Our life of sin
No one could ever win
So he'll lay me back down
On this bed made of stone
Turning his back
On all he has known
He'll walk away
With tears running free
He'll never turn back
He'll never see me
So the devil may cry
As I open my eyes
Awakened to Hell
Suspended in time

Life advice from the goddesses
Athena says:
“My darlings, fear not the fire of change. Let it burn away the old to bring growth. It hurts, but it is necessary for new life.”
Aphrodite says:
“Dear ones, dance when you realize your self worth is in your own hands and rooted in your feet.”
Hecate says:
“Witches, do not fear the unknown. For today was the future only a moment ago.”
Artemis says:
“Hunt for who you are, in the deepest parts of your ribs. This is holy.”
Hera says:
“Children, make mistakes and come to terms with them. Learning comes with sacrifice.”
Persephone says:
“choice is a fickle thing and many will attempt to rewrite your story. Be who you are, choose yourself. Change only when the growth is good for you.”
Hestia says:
“Babies, may you light your hearth where your chosen family lies, and do not believe the falsehood that you are trapped by blood.”

Had our Samhain celebrations last night. I spent so much time, love, and intention on making my outfit. I fell in love with it! You can't see but my skirt has a bustle, train, petty coat, everything! My headdress was a blast to make, I kinda want to just make them for people now. 😂 My belt was a little haphazard but you know that's what happens when you're alternating between crafting and toddler wrangling. I hope your Samhain is as much fun as mine was. Blessings yall!

Dirt
Tumblr media
When hoodoo was created, most of the people using it did not have ready access to the best ingredients and often had to hide their practice. Consequently, a lot of what was used had to be things people could obtain. This is why hoodoo uses various roots, sticks, herbs, honey, sugar, and other household supplies readily available. There is no exception for dirt. Different kind of dirt is used for different kind of things but some examples include:
Dirt from the crossroads: used for many things including hexing/cursing, summoning certain spirits, opening roads, etc.
Dirt from a bank: Most commonly used in money work. I swear by bank dirt. It adds so much potency to money workings and every time I have used it I have gotten great results. Could also be used in works to get a loan, get approved for a house, relieve debt, etc.
Dirt from a church: This is usually used for works that have to do with cleansing, healing, or otherwise “holy” matters.
Graveyard dirt: A staple in hoodoo, used for many different things including curses, healing, ancestor work, goofer dust, hot foot powder, etc.
Some of these are examples of things that have been used traditionally and throughout hoodoo’s history. However, all types of folk magick utilize whatever you have.
I have in the past used dirt from a car dealership(to obtain a car), dirt from a red ant farm(defensive/hexing), dirt from a destroyed/abandoned building(defensive/hexing), and dirt from a specific apartment complex I wanted to live in. *not all of these are my ideas, but some of them are*
Folk Magick is and was about using whatever you have around you, and often whatever cost less. Do not ever feel like you can’t do effective, life changing magick with twigs and leaves. You can. Our ancestors did, you can too.
