I’m curious to know if other fans dissociate characters from the actors that play them, or if it’s just me.

For background, I’m an asexual, neurodivergent woman in my 30s.

When I find a new fandom and really start to hyperfixate, it doesn’t cross my mind to associate the actors that portray that character with the character. In fact, sometimes I don’t even particularly LIKE the actors that play them, but I love the CHARACTER and how they play it. I don’t find myself needing to ponder that actor or their lives outside the context of the role.

Does anyone else feel this way? Does bringing the actors themselves into the equation ruin the fourth wall for anyone else? Tagging some of my current fandoms for responses.

My crossover pairing that’s been years in the making. Does anyone else remember The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett? It was one of my childhood favorites. I always loved the main character, Teeka. Years later, I thought, they would actually be really sweet together, the arch elf and the reindeer trainer. What if they grew up together? Been on a Spyro kick. Have Elora and Spinner with my headcanon OCs, Elora and Spyro’s three kiddos: Blaze (left), Thea (middle) and Kindle (right). Kindle is the oldest, then Blaze and Thea is the baby. Kindle and Blaze were adopted as babies, Thea was a happy yet highly unexpected arrival 😂

I’ve been lurking in the Spyro fandom for an unsettling amount of time. Like. Decades. (I’m old.) I used to write fanfiction under hollyberry2900 on fanfiction . net and deviantArt as well. Scary times 😭
