“Muster the Rohirrim! Assemble the army at Dunharrow, as many men as can be found. You have two days. On the third, we ride for Gondor. And war.”

Tonight’s random after midnight thought while brushing my teeth: Carrot could never command the Watch, and Vimes knows it, and it’s Angua who will take over eventually.

This realisation hit me like a truck. There is a reason I procrastinate doing almost everything, including writing, applying for jobs, and watching shows and movies. I'm so afraid that it won't work out, that I will be rejected, or that I won't actually enjoy it, that it's easier to not try at all. It's not laziness or lack of ambition that causes it, like I always thought. It's fear. #handlettering #handwriting #fauxcalligraphy #lettering #procrastination #perfectionism (at Cape Town, Western Cape)

The Fantastic Masculinity of Newt Scamander:
“We’ve learned to easily forgive aggression and arrogance in men but to take exceptions at the presence of humility or sensitivity. We are accustomed to seeing men who are quick to violence and slow to diplomacy. Newt is a significant departure from this trend. His version of manhood doesn’t stem from this physical strength or combat skills or feats of daring do or even some preordained mystic destiny like so many other male heroes. He’s sincere, nurturing, emotional, and sensitive. Critically that sensitivity is framed as strength rather than a weakness.”

Frodo undertook his quest out of love - to save the world he knew from disaster at his own expense, if he could; and also in complete humility, acknowledging that he was wholly inadequate to the task. His real contract was only to do what he could, to try to find a way, and to go as far on the road as his strength of mind and body allowed. He did that. I do not myself see that the breaking of his mind and will under demonic pressure under torment was any more a moral failure than the breaking of his body would have been - say, by being strangled by Gollum, or crushed by a falling rock. That appears to have been the judgement of Gandalf and Aragorn and of all who learned the full story of his journey. Certainly nothing would have been concealed by Frodo! But what Frodo himself felt about the events is quite another matter.

SLYTHERIN: “Then turn selfishness into a weapon! Make all things yours! Make other lives and dreams and hopes yours! Protect them! Save them!… My dreams! My brother! My family! My land! My world! How dare you try to take these things, because they are mine!” -Terry Pratchett (The Wee Free Men)

The land of Númenor resembled in outline a five-pointed star, or pentangle, with a central portion some two hundred and fifty miles across, north and south, and east and west, from which extended five large peninsular promontories. These promontories were regarded as separate regions, and they were named Forostar (Northlands), Andustar (West-lands), Hyarnustar (Southwestlands), Hyarrostar (South-eastlands), and Orrostar (Eastlands). The central portion was called Mittalmar (Inlands), and it had no coast, except the land about Rómenna and the head of its firth. A small part of the Mittalmar was, however, separated from the rest, and called Arandor, the Kingsland. In Arandor were the haven of Rómenna, the Meneltarma, and Armenelos, the City of the Kings; and it was at all times the most populous region of Númenor.
