1x05 Chuseok cooking scene was so important in building the foundation of Kitty and Minho’s friendship and dynamic. I think it’s definitely one of the more calming moments for Kitty in season 1 and something I believe Minho unknowingly and continuously brings to her; the ‘calm’ (and logic) to her chaos.

Prior to this scene, everything that Kitty put herself thru or the things that was happening to her was absolute CHAOS. She was adapting to a new environment, was running around the whole city looking for family clues, match made other people, ran around the whole school just trying to make it to class on time, even failing her class. She dealt with a crazy roommate all the while sorting thru an abundance of emotions around her relationship with Dae. Then suddenly, the one person she couldn’t stand and who she thought could care less about her offers a helping hand and asks her how she’s doing.

I love the irony in Minho cuz he claimed to be ‘Anti-Kitty’ but out of his good conscience, helps her cook a feast and proceeds to ask if she’s doing okay. Minho was (from my observations) the first person to genuinely ask her how she was doing. Something that caught her by a bit of surprise but she thanked him for asking (then had their little moment) cuz I don’t think she’s even had a chance to really think about herself when her mind’s been everywhere else and when most people have brushed her off.

This scene could have been built to be another chaotic scene (especially in their little kitchen), but what we saw was the exact opposite. They were able to be around each other banter and all, even opening up to each other about their families and relationships. Their walls started to crack, saw each other in a more empathetic way and for a little bit, her mind slowed down and calmed itself. They may not have even realized it but they started to grow a soft spot for one another. Something we continue to see as their friendship grew and feelings developed.

Their hearts were so sad about the other leaving…

Both times Kitty knew she was going home (or going soon) and both times Minho knew she’d be leaving (soon) and both times there was a confession. A confession so deeply felt that they needed to tell the other. One from him and one from her..

“That bloke bought you a pen?”

We talk a lot about how Minho was (in the funniest way) jealous and intimidated by Peter at the store and in literature class where he sees Kitty with the pen and then calls Peter ‘Pete’. lol. Buuuut I’d like to think Kitty was also jealous when she saw him in the shop with those pens he got for Stella. Liiikke… you’re telling me that among alll the other many pens she could have gotten, she chose one that Minho had in his hands...?🤭

Gotta give props to the writing and the purposeful choice of setting in these two scenes cuz the way Kitty and Minho went from having Chemistry together where they weren’t “bonding” to having Literature together where they were writing a whole essay on dramatic irony in jealousy.

Okay, MOONCOVEY going on tour together buuuuutt I just remembered Eunice is the opening act. She gonna be spilling those deets…🫢

Turning Minho down was never a real rejection. She just spent all season repressed with feelings that (to her) was always just too complicated to navigate..

The more he used words to hide and deflect his feelings, the more his actions said otherwise…

The more she heard those words of his, the more her expression and feelings said otherwise…

Minho is such a deeply layered character. It takes a lot to get him outwardly mad/angry/frustrated on a serious level. The way Kitty is almost always taken aback by his anger proves that, especially when she’s used to their friendly banter or annoyances. I think it’s opened her eyes (and even ours) to something beyond his strong yet relaxed facade. It’s a deeper side of him and a place of vulnerability that he doesn’t let many people into or burden them with.

Beyond who was right or who was wrong, if we viewed those situations simply from his point of view it made sense why he was frustrated. I think he had the right to be. It also showed us a lot about his character and the values and trust he holds for himself, for others he cares about and the hope he has that others who care for him have the same value and trust in him...

And honestly, I have to give so much credit to Sangheon for developing so much depth in the way he is portraying Minho. We can see the growth in him as an actor and the growth in Minho as a character.

He’s the calm to her chaos and the anchor that keeps her grounded when it’s storming out…

I'm just not that into Stella. Wait, really? Yeah. I mean she's cute, don't get me wrong, but maybe she's a bit too... nice? Is it one of those things where the playboy wanting to corrupt the good girl and you're just mad because you're not getting anywhere with her? Please, give me a little credit? I just think she's boring. And why are you so focused on my love life anyway, Covey? I'm not.

I actually miss the two of you bickering like this.
