Do you ever think about how these two singlehandedly fuckin launched this ship into the ocean and started paddling as hard as they could because they both just wanted to make out with each other?? And the producers were like actually yeah we see it great job??!!!! Amen and thank god for them

Ya know. I have a feeling if Haymitch saw any of the age gap discourse… he himself would literally say “Oh, so at 16 I was expected to literally kill other kids, but you draw the line at at someone a few years older than me and I hooking up? Yeah. That makes sense.”

If Lady Sybil Crawley can marry her family’s chauffer, and a family with such high social standing as the Crawleys can find a way to deal with that, then Siegfried Farnon can marry his housekeeper, who is of course so much more than a housekeeper, is already treated like family, and is respected not just by said family, but by those who know them.
I don’t think Siegfried would care if anyone thought negatively of him marrying Audrey Hall. He’d defend her honour and tell them where to stick their outdated opinions. This is a man who we’ve already seen hold her hand and take her arm in public - can you imagine someone like Major Sebright Saunders doing that with his housekeeper? He probably barely speaks to them (yes, he’s in a higher class to Siegfried, socially, but still).
Hugh was going to marry Helen (ok, she wasn’t his employee), a farmer’s daughter. Nothing wrong with that, but Helen’s family isn’t upper class. They’re not poor, but their livelihood depends on the land and the animals, there isn’t a back-up supply of money, from what we’ve seen, otherwise there wouldn’t have been such a worry about shutting the farm when TB was found.
My point is, with all the posts I’ve read about class and that possibly affecting the relationship between Siegfried and Audrey, I don’t actually think it will. Audrey might have a bit of a wobble and think she’s not good enough (pish), but we know she is, and so does Siegfried and their family and friends. Yes, unfortunately social class still mattered to a lot of people in the 1940s, but with the war on, society was slowly beginning to change. I think they’ll be ok, especially in their village.

Fun Story to Share.
I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.
Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.
Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).
Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
———
Never question whether a fic is too old to comment on.
