ALSO LIKE. the relief of dean finding cas in purgatory in s8 vs when he found him in s15 is so palpably different and it is Delicious. in s8 he’s all smiles and open arms and already instantly joking around with him- ‘nice peach fuzz’ -and its literally off the tails of him spending a WHOLE YEAR finding him and yet he’s just so like? earnest? honest? convicted? in his belief that cas WOULD be okay and would come home with him that his relief isnt even like. “thank god i found you” but rather “FINALLY, i found you” because there isnt a possibility in his mind that he WOULDNT find cas and that cas WOULDNT come with him.. in contrast to the like tense relief of s15 where theres no smiles in his hug because he knows what its like to lose cas and he’s lost cas before and it is very much a “thank god i found you” hug. you almost cant even imagine dean giving him the s8 all-smiles purgatory reunion hug in the s15 scene. fellas does it All ever feel so fucking tense all the time always with the words youre both leaving unsaid.

You can't make Supernatural season 15 series penultimate finale Gay Angel goes to Super Hell and then is written out in favor of clown-hunting tetanus-nail-impaling automobile-erotic party-city-wig blurry-wife ending these days. Because Woke.

okay real talk. what if there is a kiss BUT it's in a cas dream/djinn sequence. thus achieving true fence sitting on the topic, prompting eternal discussion on whether it was a win or a loss and cementing supernatural as a series that will live on forever via online discussion boards

Here is my thoughts on what Jensen said about the confession.
At purcon over the weekend, Jensen said that Cas's confession doesn't need to be resolved. It was never subtext. It was clear text from the very beginning. When they finally reunite, that will be understood and this is just so important to hear in terms of their relationship if the writers decide to take that route in the revival/s16. It doesn't necessarily need to be addressed because it won't cause anything negative in their relationship because it is a natural progression. It's like a weight has been lifted off Cas's shoulders when he said 'I love you' to Dean and he is at peace with saying that. In that moment when Cas was taken and Dean was left sobbing on the floor, he realised in that moment that he loved Castiel and he is mourning the love they could of had. The pure relationship they could of had if fate and death hadn't pulled them apart. There is no resolution because Castiel had said his testament out loud and it was beautiful and it was bold. It doesn't need to be addressed because Dean has come to terms with his love for him and there is no need to run from it anymore. To me it was never subtext, it had always been there because Dean realised too little too late that he loved Castiel and he was taken from him. When they finally reunite, no wedge will be driven between them because they understand their feelings for each other and they are ready to embark on that relationship. It doesn't need to be talked about because Cas's confession was the resolution and it will be understood by the time Dean and Cas reunite because that love was always there and they will always find their way back to each other. It doesn't need resolution because it already happened. It is the beginning of a new chapter of Cas's story because his days of loving in silence ended when he confessed his undying love to Dean. That was the end of his story and that sacrifice paved the way for a new one to start where Castiel and Dean can finally love each other unconditionally. It will be there and it will not be forgotten. They will be together.
When Jensen talks about Cas's importance to Dean, he always emphasises on the word person and how Dean has already found his people. It reads to me like Dean has already found his soulmate in Cas and he came to terms with that when he was dragged away from him. Cas is the closet people to him because he understood him better than most and loved him for the good and true person he was. He wasn't just a brother in arms, he wasn't just a friend, their love transcends all of those labels and becomes this beautiful and real thing between them. They love each other. They found each other because they chose each other over destiny, over God, over fate, over their own stories. Castiel fell from heaven for Dean. Love was what inspired his every action when it came to Dean. Dean is a man that fights for love and whose heart was big enough to make Cas care about the whole world. Their love wasn't part of Chuck's story, it has always been right there. Divergent from the rest.
Subtext is a meaningless term when describing Dean and Cas's relationship because it has always been there and that closeness was such a beautiful thing. When the writers use the word subtext in passing dialogue, they pressure us into referring to it as subtext because they want to be misled and believe that when none of it was ever subtle. It was supposed to be seen. It was supposed to be picked up on by millions of viewers. It was supposed to feel like a real connection because the writers never attended to bury it. It had always been there and it was always such a fundamental part of their story to be ignored. That is what makes it hit harder when Cas is taken away because the only real thing Dean had is taken away from us and it is supposed to be devastating. That was the reaction the writers were looking for when writing that scene because it was real. It had always been there. It's intention was to be understood. So when Dean and Cas reunite and get together, it won't feel like a big elephant in the room, it will be a real and natural progression because their relationship had always been there and it is finally ready to tell its story and become full bloom like a flower at spring.
It has always been there and the story is finally ready to be told.

I was not at the panel today but came across an audio recording from the panel. Here is the transcript from that question. I wanted to be as true as possible to what I heard so I included Jensen’s stutters, only cutting out when he says “um” as a filler. I also put italics around words he sounds like he is very carefully choosing and/or emphasizing. Also, quotes around “resolution” when it sounds like he’s doing that thing where you repeat the question in your answer.
Q: How do you see Cas’s return to Supernatural and how would you like Cas’s confession to be resolved?
J: Confession to be resolved. Ok, starting out with a banger. I - I don’t - I don’t necessarily know Cas’s confession needs to be “resolved” cause I don’t think there’s anything to necessarily “resolve” about it. I think he gave - he gave a confess- or he gave his - his testament and his - his speech to Dean at the end there, which was I think a long time coming. And - and it was beautiful and it was heartfelt and it was true and it was raw and it was real. And so I- I- I- I don’t- I don’t necessarily think that there needs to be some “resolution” to- to that. I think- I think Dean took that in, I think he lost one of his closest allies, one of his best friends in that moment. And he understands that- that Cas loved him. And, that’s something that Dean will- if- if- the opportunity comes back for that reunion it’s one of those like, it doesn’t need to be said it doesn’t need to be talked about it’s an unsaid, under- you know. (Stutters) it’s- it’s an- well, it’s not a subtext. It was clear text! (Audience claps) and the- the accepting of that happened in that moment when Cas was- was taken away and Dean was sitting there on the floor and realized that he- he had- had not only lost a- a- a brother in arms but had also lost one of his closest- the closest people to him. And- and I- you know I’ve said that when you find your people it doesn’t matter who or what or where or why or when they are, you find your people. And they found each other and I think that that’s- that’s always gonna be there whenever- whenever they do end up coming back or whenever they do have a reunion, it’s just understood.
