We know a person who always sees tasty treats and goes “ohhhh i shouldnt be naughty noo”. And though we've tried, she doesnt respond well to “just eat what you want. food isnt moral or immoral” or anything of the sort--it's too confrontational and challenges her rigid worldview too quickly for it to not get brushed off.

So we've started saying “you deserve to be a little naughty.. we all deserve to be a little naughty as a treat... we should all be naughty more often actually. being naughty is fun and why shouldn't we be able to have fun?”. Then, she'll buy the food most of the time because we've given her that validation that it's ok without being too wordy about it. Now we've noticed she's stopped beating herself up about food so often and will just buy things and say "as a treat. we all deserve little treats".

We've basically been micodosing her on removing the shame from food choices. So, yes, even you reading this deserve to have a little tasty treat. You all deserve treats.

anyone else have to like. gentle parent their moms about food. my mom is like “let’s be naughty and eat pizza” and i gently say “food is not inherently good or bad”
