Something about how the universe seemed to protect Joel. How he won with an insane amount of skill but also moments of luck. (And this was the season of the dice.) Snails missed him by centimeters. TNT blew up beneath his feet and he simply jumped away. He was nearly invincible today. Floating on air. Smoke between their fingers.

Something about how everyone who came for him seemed to be karmically punished moments later, whether he was directly involved or not.

Something about how when he opened the "door of destiny" at the end destiny responded by closing the ground beneath his feet, saving his life one last time.

Telling him "we chose you. Fate doesn't always get its way in this game but this time it was meant to be."

Joel being hunted down by a large group of people trying to kill him and just dancing around them and rapidly swapping places with them with his teleport ability was actually so cool and impressive. Just cinematic the way he'd taunt them and gleefully laugh as they all got disoriented and confused. No more blind panic and anger, he actually felt in control

joel did so well, winning in a proper blaze of glory like that— so fitting, especially after losing gem, his anchor. and his alliance with grian in the end was Killing Me. grian plain-faced telling him "you could win this," and saying he will give his life to joel? grian telling him "it's your turn."

i can't wait to see what grian was thinking before that final fight. he just kind of disappeared while joel was on an absolute rampage. and when they met back up for the final fight, he was actually fighting against joel, contrary to what he said before. maybe he realized that he knows joel, and joel would never be happy with a sacrifice. maybe he knows that because he knows what sacrifice did to him, way back when.

so he decided to fight, for joel's sake, and maybe his own, too. and when he died, he died falling. just like 3rd life.

nevermind everyone winner's symbolism cancelled. we cannot have another scar earth/mercury/comet situation again. I vote we all lay down our weapons and join hands in peace and accept that the one true symbol for Joel is the Car. wherever he goes whatever flavour of symbols you particularly enjoy. Car. Just Car. Because it would be really funny

jimmy, scar & lizzie: either a shakespearian comedy or tragedy, too soon to say

skizz, mumbo & grian: grian took skizz in the imp&skizz divorce and also brought along his best friend Trust Issues Mcgee

bigb: something changed irreversibly in him during secret life and he has not been the same since
