Bringing this back in the reblog because I don't think I will ever stop thinking about it

I once read a Tumblr post on here years ago that, the longer time goes on, the more it stays in my mind.

it’s not a deep philosophical post, a quote from a famous historical figure, a drawing of majestic beauty, or a transformative masterpiece. Its a simple fandom write up, written by a fan of the series.

it’s a short harry potter story written by a trans woman.

She got sorted into… Gryffindor I believe? She had finally come out, and the rest of the house were mocking her. Telling her she wouldn’t be able to go up to the women’s dorms ‘cause she was a man.’ They made transphobic comments and hurtful jeers as she made her way up the stairs.

and the stairs let her, because she was a woman. She went into her dorm smiling, because she was a woman and the castle accepted her.

It was a simple piece told well, of a woman wanting to write about her being validated. She wrote it to comfort herself, most likely, and what’s wrong with that? Nothing at all. I liked it, but since I was still lurking and doing nothing on this site I neither heart’d it or reblogged.

I think about that post a lot, at random times. It will just pop into my head and i think. Harry Potter isn’t a good work: It’s anti-Semitic, it’s racist, it’s anti-femine, it’s transphobic. The author is all these things and more. Trans people are under attack across the globe, and JK is fueling the fire.

Hogwarts legacy is about to release, and the game is so openly anti-Semitic that nobody can deny it anymore. JK is a transphobe, nobody can deny that anymore.

Trans women, Jewish people, POC, and so many others have been telling us for years that HP is not a good series. Nowadays we’re listening, but it wasn’t always like that.

and yet back then, years ago, a trans woman wrote a very nice story about harry potter that validates her identity. It was nice, far nicer than many things Harry Potter fans have had to say about trans women. I wonder what she’s doing right now, what she’s a fan of now. 

That piece has been lost to the sands of time, as many things on the internet are and will be. As my own stuff will one day be most likely. And yet i still think about that small story she wrote. Perhaps I’ll be thinking about it decades from now as the world burns around me.

I think about it a lot.

Durgeheart Week 2025: A Shipweek by Dystopian God

The interest is there, by me at least, so I pounced early and made this because the idea's keep flowing and I want to share it with all that I can.

I've contributed to ship weeks before... well, A ship week. In anycase I would like to believe I am obsessed enough with these two amnesiac idiots that I can host a proper ship week in four months. God, plese let this all work out...

June 2025, June 8-14, Sunday to Saturday, be there or be square. Please give interest and tell me so I can properly credit your work however I can when you present your entries. That being said, what is the work? well, first off we have-

SUNDAY, JUNE 8TH: STARES OF LONGING (Mutual Pining. Glances and blushes stolen when they can, Shadowheart and Durge are down bad apocalyptically for each other and literally everyone can tell... but can our two amnesiacs?)

MONDAY, JUNE 9TH: TENDER LOVING CARE (Afterbattle care is important when trying to save the world, especially when Durgeheart are involved. How does Shadowheart care for Durge? How does Durge tend to Shadowheart? Are they angry at the wounded party? Worried? Relieved they're alive?)

TUESDAY, JUNE 10TH: IN ANOTHER LIFE (Every flavor of AU but Canon: Durgeheart in college, Mass Effect, Thedas, a Zombie Apocalypse, the American Wild West... whatever AU that doesn't take place on the Sword Coast is up to you, because maybe they find themselves in every universe)

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11TH: OUR CHILDHOOD INNOCENCE (Before they were Shar's Justiciar and Bhaals Chosen, they were two kids in Baldur's Gate. Perhaps they were friends, perhaps they were a single meeting, or perhaps they were a first crush... all before the gods intervened and ruined it all. But as Durge asks: were they sweet once?)

THURSDAY, JUNE 12TH: MEET THE PARENTS (The Hallowleafs want to meet the person who has so ensnared Shadowheart... or perhaps Durge wants to take Shadowheart to a forgotten grave from their first and most agonizing kill. Will it be a comedy of errors or a quiet moment of grieving what could have been?)

FRIDAY, JUNE 13TH: GREEN EYED MONSTER (Jealousy is a green eyed monster, and Durgeheart are no exception. Perhaps Shadowheart really does not like how Gortash looks at Durge, or Durge hates how a Sharran talks to Shads... jealousy is the name of the game here)

SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH: AFTER THE END (Baldur's gate is saved, the Netherbrain is dead, and the Absolute Plot is ended... so while the dust settles, how do Durgeheart react: Do they ride out into the sunset? Kiss like their lives depend on it? Talk about the future?)

That is it: seven days of Durgeheart all ready and waiting for people to engage with... so hopefully there comes a fine crop of Shads and Durge. There is a bonus round, for those who want something a bit (read: a lot) more angsty than the seven entries above but I'd rather reveal that to anyone who asks specifically than just drop it here.

In anycase, this will be a big thing for me and I hope that at least a few people will be willing to participate in it because, well, it'll be kind of sad if it's just me.

I will always be a Durgeheart truther

Yesterday my brain made the conection between Sceleritas telling me that Durge was always "pining" for Bhaal's blessing in the form of the Slayer, and Shadowheart saying that all she's ever wanted was to serve Shar and receive her blessing in the form of becoming a Dark Justiciar. And then I lay awake screaming internally until 2AM thinking about character parallels and similarities and Shar and Bhaal's competition to be the worst parents in Realmspace.

"Shar inflicts constant agony on me but she doesn't kill me in situations where she could, which means she must love me! She must!" meet; "Dad deliberately sending me into cardiac arrest, letting me fear for me life and then resuscitating me with a sensation compared to the lash of a whip is affection!" (And they're both so desperate for their gods' love because said god will never really let them have anyone or anything else.)

Shar wants Shadowheart to kill her parents so that she will have no other attachments but Shar, Bhaal forced Durge to kill their adoptive parents so that they would have nobody else but Bhaal.

Both of these characters have been groomed from a young age/birth to be hollowed out into the vessel of a god, and both had the people that raised them forcibly taken away so that they couldn't interfere. Shadowheart was kidnapped from her family so that she could be taken in by her new "real family". Durge was forced to kill their family before they hit puberty because their "real family" would be coming to get them soon.

Shar and Bhaal both inflict pain on them in order to keep them in line.

She's "Shadowheart", because it's a name that suits Shar. They're "The Dark Urge," because it's a name that refers to Bhaal. Both of these names erasing and overwriting the names their family gave them; Jenevelle and whatever Durge's adoptive parents named them.

Shadowheart never lost herself anywhere close to the extent of Durge as far as I've seen, but neither of them could quite erase their personhood. Even when she was destroying lives and torturing people for Shar, Shadowheart couldn't shake the caring girl who loved animals and flowers. Even the Gate's most prolific serial killer stopped to give coin to a beggar, because buried somewhere in there was a child who experienced poverty and homeless and felt empathy.

Differences in power dynamics mean this one isn't a perfect parallel, but it's still interesting how Shadowheart has Viconia and Durge has Orin - people in their lives who resent them and want to see them fall, because they feel the other has robbed them of their proper place of honour in the eyes of their joint deities.

And, of course, they're both amnesiacs whose amnesia is actually the key to them escaping their abuser.

Anyway, I'm sure there are more dialogue parallels and things to find between them, but the main point to take away is that there should be an option in certain cutscenes to shank Shar and Bhaal.

I love this romance moment just as much as, if not more than, "Kiss me like you hate me."

Act 2 Durge when Shadowheart

I was thinking about Shadowheart and the PC's cottage functioning as the central hub and meeting point post-game. Like the all would gather there, at the same time or not, and spend some relaxing days with the family:

Karlach: Once her engine is finally repaired, she visits her friends and stays with them for a long while, just relaxing and enjoying farm life. Until her hunger for exploration leads her to the roads again; but always finds her way back to the family

Wyll: Even if Karlach's engine is repaired already, The Blade of Avernus has many unfinished businesses in the Hells, so he returns to his duties after resting at the cottage, learning to make pastries with Shadowheart and telling them stories from his adventures. Arnell becomes a great fan of the Blade, and always lends him his ears

Lae'zel: Once her people are free and she can take a short vacation from her duties (or what she considers vacation anyway lol) she visits them, probably finding Karlach there too, and puts both Tav/Durge and Shadowheart in shape again. Too much meddling with animals and vegetables and too little maintaining their skills... For her standards lol.

Jaheira: The city eventually overwhelms her again and before tackling any new adventure, she visits the cub and their family. She bonds with Emmeline over plants and garden maintenance, becoming great friends.

Halsin: He can take only a small break from the Towers before the kids miss him too much. Every time he visits, he brings them gifts from nature: seeds, grown plants, exotic fruits, or homemade ham, which he teaches Shadowheart how to make.

Astarion: Rarely shows up, and always at night, pranking them or pretending to be a thief; until Shadowheart very seriously threatens him for scaring the cats. He brings the best vintages stolen from the Upper city and all the juicy gossip from the streets and the political sphere of Baldur's Gate.

Gale: Professor Gale doesn't have that much time available, but makes sure to visit his dear friends during holidays, taking Tara with him (and the best spices in the realms!). Tara isn't very sure about the whole ordeal with so many animals xD but she enjoys her time there, especially in the summer.

Isobel & Aylin: The moon lesbians throttle the realms, helping people and bringing hope to those who need it. Every now and then, they stop by the cottage for a few days. Dame Aylin always gets Tav/Durge and Shadowheart drunk, and it falls to Isobel to help them with hungover.

That would be all I can think about for now. I just want them to be happy and maintain their bond.

I need to ramble about this cute Soulmate AU BG3 idea before I literally die of keeping it in

So everyone has the name of their soulmate on their body somewhere, yeah? Standard Soulmate AU stuff and nothing biggee. Shadowheart and Durge have each others name on their body as they're soulmates...

Except here's the thing.

Shadowheart has Durges 'Legal Name' as given by the family that took them in way back when on her body because before the Temple and Bhaal stripped her down to just the Urge within her, that's the name and identity she clung to in order to have one small thing to herself outside of Bhaal...

And Durge has Jenevelle Hallowleaf on her body, because Shadowheart never quite forgot the small girl in the forest no matter how hard Viconia and the Sharrans tried.

So when both of them get their canon-amnesia, they both kind of sort of forget that they ever had any other name but Shadowheart or The Dark Urge. So these two idiots basically decide over the course of their adventures that, if they're gonna spite their own gods as much as they are: Shads by going Selenite and Durge by going Resist, then they might as well add Ao and the rest of the pantheon to the list by dating the other amnesiac in the group that they vibe with.

It's basically both a celebration, satire, and rejection of Soulmate AUs because the two involved fall in love not because of the names on their wrists, but in spite of that. They don't recognize the name as their own so they fall in love basically as a rejection of the lives they left behind, thinking that surely Jenevelle is a mad Bhaalist Assassin/(insert your Durges name here) is a cold Sharran warrior...

Withers and Shadowhearts parents are watching this shit with barely concealed amusement

It will never not anger me that Shadowheart and the other Love Interests didn't get any special interactions with Durge like Astarion did.

I like Astarion, but I want my Durge Xana to try and break up with Shads to try and protect her from Bhaal only for Shads to reassure her that if she can break free from Shar with Durge by her side, then Xana will have Shads by her side when she confronts Bhaal.

I just want my two amnesiac princesses to have as much care as Durgestarion is all
