My ideal sequel to The Hobbit (ignoring LOTR, the OTTrilogy can continue being perfect forever as a completely separate concept) is a vaguely slapstick groundhog’s day style redo where every time Bilbo dies he’s sent back to the day Gandalf arrives to invite him on an adventure.

It starts off enthusiastic because Bilbo is going to do everything right this time, he’s going to tell Gandalf immediately so they can fix everything and save everyone and stop Sauron.

But Bilbo keeps dying and everything keeps going wrong in new and incredible ways. They try the whole eagle thing. They try going with a massive army. Bilbo tries sneaking past Shelob, so many times.

He dies to orcs, spiders and old age. He dies falling off horses, tripping off cliffs and on one memorable occasion of a heart attack.

He lives through wars and councils and losing everyone over and over again.

And eventually Bilbo is a defeated hobbit with too many deaths in his memory to count and nothing left in him to give. He wakes up after his latest failure and decides to just go on the stupid quest to Erebor because if nothing else it worked last time.

He finds himself enjoying it, enjoying spending time with these dwarves who are confused by the tiny little war veteran in their midst. He’s weirdly laissez faire about dying and surprisingly good with a sword considering he’s a hobbit.

They get attached and work together to stop their little companion from walking into oblivion and Bilbo slowly remembers what living felt like and is starting to get his motivation back. This time with the desperation that this time will work out specifically because he loves these dwarves and no other versions of them will ever be the same. He has family now and he doesn’t want to leave them behind.

Bilbo’s learnt a lot over hundreds of life times and he uses all of that knowledge to get them through safely.

Facing off with orcs, brow beating stubborn elves and whipping the gold sickness straight out of dwarves.

He comes to the end of the journey, his dwarves are safe, Erebor is reclaimed with shockingly minimal loss of life and he has the ring and the willingness to try again for Mordor - when Bofur’s like, “what do you mean Mount Doom’s the only place it can be destroyed? Sounds like you just need lava. Follow me laddie.” And takes him down to the deepest and darkest parts of the mines under Erebor where dwarves have dug the deepest and uncovered great chasms at the bottom of which flow molten rivers of magma.

They drop in the ring.

It floats on the surfaces for a moment before it cracks and dissipates with an unsettling scream.

In the distance to the east a tower falls and orcs and goblins watch with horror as the eye melts and shatters.

Down the depths of Erebor Bilbo lets out a great sigh of relief.

“It’s almost four Bilbo, we should get you some tea before that stomach of yours starts a revolt.”

And Bilbo goes back up into the sunlight to settle in for a nice afternoon visit with his dwarves in the garden they built for him on the slopes of Erebor.

Bilbo likes wargs even less than he likes trolls, the company have a bumpy road to Rivendell.

I am burying myself in Hobbit fanfic atm. It’s glorious.

God yes, this would be brilliant.

If Moffat would have put me in the writers’ room…

I’m making John an ER doctor. Probably after Reichenbach.

You’re telling me the combat-trained army doctor isn’t throwing himself into trauma and emergency medicine after losing Sherlock? You’re telling me this man, who treated blast injuries in the field, performed chest tubes in a tent, and sutured wounds under fire, isn’t going to thrive in a place where patients are crashing every hour?

John is devastated. His best friend is gone. His partner. Does he even know what Sherlock was to him?

He copes the only way he knows how. Intubations. Central lines. Running traumas back to back.

He zones out and loses himself in the chaos of the ER. No thinking. No grief. Just the next patient. GSW to the abdomen. RTA rolling in. Code blue in the ICU.

Maybe he takes an attending position at St. Bart’s. Maybe he likes the familiarity of the halls. Maybe he passes the spot where Sherlock fell to his death every day and tells himself it doesn’t matter. Maybe if he saves enough people, he’ll feel something again.

At first, he struggles. The equipment is too much. Too many resources. In the war, he had pressure dressings, ketamine, and luck. Now he has thoracotomies, ECMO, a whole trauma team. It feels excessive. It feels wrong. But he adapts.

Soon, he is the one barking orders. 16-gauge IVs in both arms. 1:1:1 transfusion. Push Epi. Get me a thoracotomy tray. His hands don’t shake. His leg doesn’t hurt. He works fast. He doesn’t go home. He picks up extra shifts. He’s always there.

Sherlock was the genius in the morgue. John is the one keeping people out of it.

Anyways I’m still mourning the bbc Sherlock we could have had.

I look at all these people asking for a like/dislike button or the ability to take away kudos if a fic does something they don’t like…

We are very different people. And I really don’t get it.

Why do you want a built in anonymised function for giving negative feedback? Are we trying to make fandom like Reddit now? Because that’s a space that really promotes creativity.

Can you imagine how depressing watching your kudos count go down would be?

They are ridiculous and I lowkey resent people who think this is a good idea.

You know what I would LOVE as a new feature on ao3? A reread counter/extra kudos option. If I’ve come back to a fic after 6 months I should be able to give it another kudos or a separate thing to show that this fic has lingered with me in a way that I constantly come back to it. You’ve already left kudos here is a constant pop up for me and I would like to be able to give more positive affirmation rather than less please.

10,000 kudos feels like such a ridiculous milestone that I don’t really know what to do with myself.

Except to say thank you to all the people who have been reading, responding and in general being colossally wonderful to me.

I initially started writing Don’t think about it because I loved the existing crossovers but wanted to read something where Harry was less traumatised or had at least processed more and I wasn’t sure I was ever going to post it. And then I hit 40k and decided that I might as well.

I was genuinely shocked by the reception. I was sending my best mate message after message getting excited about how many people were already reading at chapter 1.

I know there’s a lot of commentary on the responsibility of readers to leave comments and I am firmly of the opinion that readers should be allowed to interact as much or as little with a fic as they feel like. I am a born lurker and generally don’t post much on social media (tumblr has been a learning curve) and I have probably only commented on the tiniest fraction of fics.

I didn’t even realise I could leave kudos until I was embarrassingly deep into fandom and only started regularly bookmarking last year (all the johnlock and Merlin fics I will never find again haunt me).

But dear god, you every chapter stanleys are the lifeblood. I’ve never finished a piece of writing in my life but with the power of endorphin rushes and knowing that people were waiting for me to update… just thank you, thank you so much.

I have been leaning into fanfic for a long time to distract me when my life gets shit or my mental health goes down the toilet and I definitely still do that (looking at you teen wolf, Jan/Feb was a disaster) but converting some of that addiction into writing has been such a game changer.

Writing fanfic has turned into such a blessing for me in so many ways and I am unbelievably proud of my first completed fic. I’d like to think I would still be proud of it if it hadn’t had such a positive reception but I’m honest enough with myself to know that I likely would have run out of steam on my own.

I’m incredibly lucky to have this and endlessly overjoyed that I get to write all of these cool and terrible ideas I have and have some of you actually read them.

So I’m going to keep writing and updating and throwing my terrible sense of humour at you all.

What a privilege.

Does anyone here understand Wattpad? I’ve cross posted one of my fics over there because one of my readers decided to do a Portuguese translation (honestly, so so cool).

But I really don’t get it.

I don’t really understand fanfic.net either. I have accidentally chosen a fic host and become ride or die with it. Because I don’t understand the other platforms, at all.

But is it normal for people to cross post translations because I’ve just had another person ask to translate and post to Wattpad and I can’t see any credit being offered and it’s making me a bit wary.

The hat has made it's decision, on Harry's head be it.

No one in the House of Snakes is particularly predisposed to like the boy saviour of the wizarding world and Harry isn't sure yet where he's going to fit in.

But on the positive side he's just been given free reign to frustrate a load of purebloods and he's sure Snape is delighted.

I’ve never seen a fic recc’d like this and I love it. I felt like I was reading a really detailed prompt and was thinking ‘oh I would totally read the shit out of this’.

Wonderful surprise that it’s an actual fic, immediately opened it up. Thank you OP!

We meet the doctors for the first time.

And Dr. Holmes certainly made an entrance.

Not that kind of " wow what a guy " kind of entrance but more the " what the f..." kind of entrance.

But we first meet John, a thing I love and prefer in stories because he is always the best entry into a new story.

Like a really good supporting act on a festival right before the more interesting but arrogant superstar arrives.

John is a warm up who makes you feel cosy and secure and together you wait for the storm.

And the storm arrives indeed.

Dr. Sherlock Holmes new medical superstar a patent already made and sold, is he the new neurosurgeon and within weeks he has a reputation for being rude, difficult and brilliant.

The brilliance is as obvious as the arrogance and John is equally surprised and annoyed.

But he is also a tiny little bit fascinated and is not quite sure why...

They work and clash in the OR one day and while others are intimidated by Sherlock’s behaviour is John simply annoyed and says so.

In a contest of getting the upper hand John is our winner.

We getting glimpses of the real Sherlock a bit later when he proceeds towards John again and ask for help.

Here we see a shy and insecure man who is obviously wrestling with a truth he keeps very well hidden, and we see the huge amount of trust in John approaching him in that matter.

A very moving part and what I call 

a man child moment.

Because Sherlock is a very sensitive person and John is obviously the only one he can go to which makes the moment precious and yet sad.

Sherlock’s confession being on the spectrum is groundbreaking.

For Sherlock, John and the story.

Sherlock is clearly ashamed and telling John this because he needs his help to make a medical failure accusation going away is a huge deal for a man who likes to be seen cold, talented and untouchable.

I love that all the thoughts we readers might have are in John's head too.

John is our conscience, our bond to Sherlock early knotted but unbreakable already.

Together they go and investigate a little to help Sherlock’s case, a case I won't go into detail because if you haven't read the story yet I'm not going to spoil the fun for you.

But the help John offers comes with a payback.

That's at least what Sherlock thinks and acts accordingly and much to John's surprise I might add and to mine:) 

Here we see a first behaviour of Sherlock that seems unusual and inappropriate but it also seems he simply doesn't know better and he doesn't have these natural social skills that forbid us to act in such a direct manner.

No right or wrong or any judgment coming from my side.

This is just what I observed.

And so did John luckily and doesn't give up on Sherlock, although after certain events Sherlock is back at his usual cold self with a brick wall around his emotions.

But good old John finds a way and he also realises that he finds himself attracted to the new neurosurgeon star.

And slowly but constantly they find a way towards each other because Sherlock opens up for the first time and John sees behind the mask of arrogance and indifference.

This first piece sets the standard and the curiosity for more.

I was lucky enough to discover the series after Jill completed it.

So I didn't have to wait lol.

Reading this first part and knowing there will be more makes you wonder what will happen and how this story will heading and you know for sure that you are in for a ride:)

So this year I published ~160k on ao3 over 7 fics, most of those words on one fic in particular.

Last year I did about the same but all on the same fic.

This year I also managed 15k of an original project which is more than I’ve ever managed before.

Honestly feeling really good about my writing this year! Hoping to hit 500k on ao3 in 2025 so looking forward to many more words.
