While I was trying to fall asleep last night, I randomly was thinking about that time I tried to Fallout-ify Mafia 3

My original attempt was trying to stick more to the source material of Mafia 3, like, idk the events of Stones Unturned triggered the Great War, America gets nuked etc

But that was so haaaaard it hurt my braaaaiiin 😭 in the fallout universe we don't even know what happened in the south, what New Orleans is like after the bombs dropped.

Honestly its just kinda easier to take the characters and drop them in New Vegas. Yes, WILDLY different environment but it kinda works I think.

Courier 6 and Lincoln Clay both get shot in the head and have to be revived. The war setting works just now its the NCR vs. Caesars Legion, the families in New Vegas/Mr. House are there for that old school mobster vibe.

Idk i was thinking like Cassandra, Vito and Burke could have been pushed out into Freeside, Giorgi can fit into Benny's role, replace Doc Mitchell and his house in Good Springs with a chapel and Father James, Lincoln can be an NCR soldier trying to find something else to do in the wasteland, Donovan's also affiliated with the NCR and really fuckin hates the Legion, meanwhile Aldridge was one of those Legion spies that infiltrated the NCR military keeping the whole double agent thing.

I'm still cooking, but do you see the vision?

Btw if anyone is wondering: no I'm not gonna be playing Mafia the old country

I can't really afford new video games right now, any games I do want are already a few years old at this point, also I like to wait after a game has been released to see how others are talking about it. I also still feel burned from the one time I did pre order a game and then I didn't like it that much to sink all that money in it lol.

I'm still too much of a Mafia 3 stan, to the point that the other games just make me feel like 😑

Call me bitter but the overall fan base reaction to Mafia 3, treating it like an afterthought at best or avoiding it like the plague at worst, and 2K even saying when the Old Country was originally announced that they're "going back to their roots" just really rubbed me the wrong way.

It makes me feel like they view M3 as a mistake and they just wanna sweep it under the rug, which makes me really sad.

But like I said I'll wait a while, if the new game does something that references M3 in a more positive way then that might make me change my stance but for now...eh I'm good.

Anyways I wanna share a thought I had about Lincoln that made me feel weird and kinda sad for him

Disclaimer: I'm a very white Midwestern idiot but I like learning history and trying to understand communities I'm not apart of because I wanna learn and become better and also hopefully use what I learn in a way to be an okay-ish ally.

So, after the fuckening the Marcano's do on Lincoln and his friends and family, I kinda realized after that, he really has no other black friends huh?

I count Ellis as a friend as well as his adopted brother, who's only a year younger, but now he's dead. I'm sure there were other members of the Black Mob Lincoln knew outside of his adopted family but I kinda assumed once Sammy n Ellis were killed the Black Mob was picked off or they just left the Hollow.

Lincoln's obviously friendly with other folks in the Hollow (except for Haitians until he works with them) but idk if any of them are on friend status to him or if they just knew him as "Sammy's Boy".

Father James is more of a mentor/familial figure obviously since he practically raised him before he got adopted by the Robinsons. Idk what happened to the rest of the boys at the orphanage when it closed. Did Lincoln ever have any friends there? What happened to the other boys that weren't adopted? Did they also become involved in crime and all that life brings? Did they leave? Does Lincoln keep in contact with some of them?

What about school? I assume that's where he met Ellis in the first place, I'm sure he had some friends but school friends don't always last forever. Especially since from my own knowledge on organized crime/gangs, I'm 95% sure Sammy got Ellis and Lincoln to drop out.

I don't consider Lincoln and Cassandra friends, I don't think he'd really consider any of the underbosses good friends. Cassandra keeps to herself for a reason and I swear the writers of the game hated her (Justice for Cass!!!) same with Emmanuel; he off the bat insults and makes a dark joke to purposefully bother Lincoln when they first meet. I understand why he's also standoffish, the Black Mob and Haitian Mob had problems and Lincoln trying to compare his loss to Emmanuel's loss really blew up in his face. I think he was wrong for making a dark and inappropriate joke to Lincoln when he first met but I understand his insistence of not letting Lincoln compare his criminal family to Emmanuel's innocent wife and children who were victims of a dictatorship.

I know the game wanted to show that Lincoln can get along with almost anyone despite their background, since he has a lot of non Black friends, couple of Irish folks, Italians, Cubans, etc. But from hearing other people's experiences, looking at Lincoln with that context, I can't imagine how weirdly isolating it must have felt. I sorta understand his want to find somewhere he belonged, cringe af to join the army willingly during the Vietnam War tho, but idk.

That being said I wonder if he made friends/connections with other Black soldiers while he was over there. They never elaborate on it, they mention some interactions like where he saved some wounded soldiers but them the C.I.A yoinked him into their operations.

Also while I'll never fully understand since I'm WHHHHIIIIIiite, I hear people of mixed race sharing their own stories of isolation and wonder how Lincoln being Biracial in that orphanage and then in the Hollow was like for his growing up. Especially with that line that specified he's half Dominican and Half (Maybe) Italian. Did he ever wonder more about his Dominican identity? Like how does he feel about his bio mom? He never mentions it in game, Father James talks about it all mostly, but I'm sure that also made Lincoln feel some kind of way.

He's not African-American, he's half Dominican. But he grew up with and around other African-Americans and to a lesser extent, Haitians. I know blood doesn't really have a factor in how you grew up culturally but I'm sure even as a grown man, I think all Lincoln regrets is never learning Spanish.

The few friends he's left with, I think they have a strong bond, like Donovan, and even Nicki, yeah in the documentary part where they show her much older, she's too focused on cusring her father, but I like to think despite the ending (not counting the one where Lincoln fuckin explodes) , Lincoln and Nicki are still friends, either still in New Bordeaux or long distance. I see him becoming friends with Alma as well.

There was also his time with Roxy, while she was more presented as a love interest, she could also become another important Black person around his age but they would be long distance since she leaves the state.

I need to state again, I'm a H.S grad with no further education and all I do is watch a lot of YouTube and read stuff. I'm white and I don't 100% relate to Lincoln's situation, but I definitely sympathize and want to understand his whole deal more as well as listening to Black and Black/mixed race voices. This game is so stingy and weird with any other details about their own main characters and their lives and it's making me shake the bars of my enclosure. I just wanna be the Understandeerrrrrrr.

I think I did as a kid?? Mostly cause I thought if I saw more things the actor was in the piece of media would have similar vibes of the original thing?? But at some point that passed.

I mean like, I need to word this better, I do like how certain actors look! Like young Al Pacino and his big sad brown eyes. That's about it, cause if I learn too much about a famous person I'm gonna find something terrible out about them or something bad will come out about them soon. It happens with music I get into a lot ;_;

I love Mafia 3, Lincoln Clay, John Donovan, donolinc etc but uhhh...not really all that interested in whatever Alex Hernandez or Lane Compton is up to. Like I saw Alex years back made some skits that felt like a bit from the Eric Andre show and I thought they were pretty funny and he's in really random things like Law & Order SVU, and doing other video games, as for Lane uhhhhh.....I saw he did a voice for a fanmade Fallout project that was like a radio show and my opinion was "his voice would fit a random fallout character" and I just haven't really digged more into it (I'm really picky with stuff related to the Fallout series lol).

Maybe its a weird autism block, like how no matter how desperate I am to see more Mafia 3 discussions, I refuse to go on reddit cause even YouTube comments make me feel like committing a crime lol, I've heard horror stories and don't wanna put myself through it.

I'm not shitting on the actors/VA's about other stuff they do, I'm happy they're still active and getting work. But my brain is too focused on an older project they were apart of years ago lmao.

Probably a self imposed block and maybe a self preservation tactic? Maybe something also about being 30 (in a few weeks!!!!) And having my fair share of past cringe phases and remembering how they ended up (when I was 18/19 I got into rpf and became a mclennon shipper and then it died a year later 💀💀💀)
