Week 13 Post

Post an example of the genre you plan to use for your own op-ed.

My op-ed will be on gun education in public schools: with my solution being that gun education should be intertwined with public education health classes, which could increase awareness and limit mass shootings.

I haven't decided if I will use a brochure or write an essay.

Both can benefit and can clearly explain my solution.

The benefits of a brochure is that it will be easier for people to get their hands on and have the information put into one place.

The benefits of an essay are that it can harness my critical thinking, which can help me criticize this subject.

Week 6

My research process has been very difficult. It takes me about an hour to find a article.. that doesn’t help my research at all.

Owl of Purdue has been extremely helpful for evaluating sources and for the annotated bibliography. Also the acronym CARS helped.

This process has been extremely difficult and although this is just the beginning, I am really trying to get a good grade and obtain useful research. (But missing football, family parties, and baseball games is extremely difficult as well).

Lit Review Obstacles

I’ve never written a paper so long, scary! Also doing correct citations and staying neutral will be an obstacle.

My topic is a little difficult to research, which is also an obstacle.

Staying neutral on gun control education will be a little scary as well.

But I’m excited to see how this will transform my writing. Keeping an open mind is never easy.

For question three I used the gif of the animated cartoon characters Lilo and Stitch. In looking for a gif or picture for this question I instantly thought of characters or people “showing off” or acting overly confident, representing outcomes of studying/writing using the tools of studying genres, that can boost up your writing confidence.

Week 2: Genre Analysis : Iconography

Audience: In America, gun control is a very sensitive subject in the eyes of society. As we see headlines daily, guns and gun control are a subject every citizen has an opinion about.  Moms demand action is an organization in support of stronger gun laws. With that being said this propaganda is intended to attract audiences who are borderline in their decision of gun control laws attracting people to favor against it.

Purpose: The purpose of this advertisement is to inform the viewer the opinions of the advocate group Moms demand action. This image suggests the American government has mixed priorities in the sense of gun laws. We can infer that laws regarding child obesity in public schools are more structured than gun control laws.

Rhetoric Aspects

Ethos: In advertisements such as this credibility is immediately determined by the way viewers recognize your organizations name. Moms demand action is a fairly known group against gun sense laws.

Logos: The logic we could clearly see in this photo is the association of children in a classroom with a gun. In this persuasive photograph we could clearly see that a child should not be holding an automatic weapon and that a child holding a chocolate egg is not as dangerous, which criticizes legislation.

Pathos: The way this photograph plays into pathos has the same general ideas as in logos. The way this emotionally affects the view is the lighting in the photo making the children stand out, showing what each child has in their hands: an automatic weapon and a chocolate egg. This is intended to leave a mark on the viewer stating in the eyes of the government a chocolate egg is more threatening that an assault weapon.
