There are a lot of questions that Syril Karn, Star Wars Andor’s tragic bootlicker, invites the audience to ask themselves. When do you stop being worthy of redemption? When is it too late to make the right choice? Is it okay to stalk a CIA interrogator? What does it mean when a man wants to wield violence?

All of this
Still thinking about a post I saw that said Syril choking Dedra on Ghorman was disgusting and wrong and perpetuated misogynistic violence and shouldn’t have been in the scene.
Like, sure girl, Dedra’s currently standing in a room overseeing a violent massacre and attempted genocide that she knowingly helped orchestrate, but you’re right physical violence is a step too far.
Like, damn, if I was Syril I would have finished the job. Not to brag, but I’m built different. Bitch woulda dieeeed.
#andor#andor season 2#syril karn#dedra meero#keero#syril x dedra#Syril didn’t do what he did for the right reasons and that’s his tragedy

The Sound of Fate
Aka Palpatine Listens to Nemik’s Manifesto
"Remember this: Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously, and without instruction," the voice droned. A young voice, Palpatine noted. Young, and passionate, and filled with ideals.
"Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause."
Oh but there was truth to that. Sheev could sense it, he could hear them, those rats, gnawing away, gnawing away.
"Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward."
For so long the darkness had reigned. It had felt like he had an eternity. Time enough to gather his thoughts, time enough to plan. Yet now? Little fires kept spreading everywhere, bursts of light that inflamed their little minds. Too much light, too much light.
"And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try."
He spat. He stood up from his desk and spat on the floor. He looked around him, at the rivers of fate and force as they swirled around him like a typhoon.
"Try?" The Emperor whispered. "Do you really think that will be enough?" The Force roared in response, he saw a woman carrying her child through a field of wheat, he saw a boy with blonde hair helping his uncle on his farm, and a pilot racing out for his last mission.
"Send them,” he hissed, summoning his strength. “Send them all. I will break them all, and I will break you."
And the Emperor reached out with his hand, and his fingers delved deep into the current of fate, and he began to turn.

Spoilers for Andor Season 2
.
.
.
.
.
.
Syril, Dedra, Partagaz, Krennic, Tarkin, Vader, Palpatine.
Each of these losers spent their lives searching for power. They had different reasons to be sure, Syril wanted to be a hero, Dedra wanted to serve the thing she worshipped, Partagaz wanted personal success, Krennic wanted to show off his wits, Tarkin wanted to be the Emperors Right Hand, Vader wanted to put everything in the galaxy that he loved in a bottle, Palpatine wanted to create a monument to his own ego.
And what was the result? The evils they committed did not elevate them, it debased them. They destroyed themselves, one and all, for nothing.
Syril died alone, just another enemy killed by the Rebellion, his hopes and dreams turned to mist on the Ghorman Plaza along with his brain matter.
Dedra, who for so long imprisoned the masses to be enslaved for the Empires purposes all so that she could be "rewarded" with an apartment with a slightly better view than most of Coruscant was herself enslaved by that corrupt system.
Partagaz heard the words of a boy who inspired billions more than he could intimidate by fear and then shot himself whilst a man who was infinitely less talented and less competent than he was waited in line to take his job.
Krennic burned alive on Scarif, destroyed by the weapon he spent so long building and killed by an enemy who he could never outmatch.
Tarkin died, killed by the Rebellion at the moment he was hopped up on his own sense of power, never to understand that his terror was nothing compared to the power of faith. Faith in oneself, faith in one's purpose, faith in one's friends.
Vader, Anakin, who so desperately wanted the power he needed to protect his family, died after being beaten to a pulp by his son and then watching his son reject the power he mutilated the galaxy for.
And Palpatine, the orchestrator of all of this , the man who burned half the galaxy in an insane search for Godhood, died screaming after being thrown down a well by a paraplegic in an iron lung.
Well done Andor, you made it matter again.

Dedra Meero worked every day to uphold a system of government that led directly to her boyfriend choking her and threatening to throw her out of a window. She will never examine this and she will never ask why.
Dedra realizing she is not exempt from hands-on male rage and violence, including intimate partner violence (even from someone like Syril who we know to be quite passive with her), just because she vastly outranks him socially and politically and usually wears the pants in the relationship???? her face when he put his hands around her throat and yells at her?? even with all that education and climbing the ranks and scheming and military rank, it still doesn't fucking matter in that moment, not in the slightest. she is completely at his mercy and you can see it in her eyes when she realizes her miscalculation and oversight in this situation. incredible.

Syril was always violent.
He bullied his subordinates.
He threatened B2.
He shot at two jawas while searching for Andor.
He blew up at the ISB agents interrogating him with Dedra.
He stalked Dedra.
He grabbed her arm when she tried to walk away.
He grabbed her by the shoulders when she tried to end their conversation.
He wrapped his hands around her throat.

Dedra was three when they died. She couldn’t remember what either of them looked like, her parents, but the one memory she had was the day before they died. She was in her room playing with some toy that they bought her. She couldn’t remember what it was or what it looked like, but she remembered hearing the noise the knocking the banging. She left the room, (she was walking by then), and she saw some alien with his blaster to her father‘s head, and she saw her mother with her hands over her head.
The alien and her father were arguing and she was too young to understand the words they were using. And when her father grabbed the blaster and forced the alien backwards and the alien pulled the trigger and the bolt just barely missed her head, she was too young to understand how much danger she was in.
Her father wrestled the alien down to the floor and her mother stabbed the alien and again and again. The ichor that drained from the creature was not red like a persons, it was white. Her parents stood up they hugged each other and then she heard the only words she could remember her mother speak.
“Don’t worry, we’ll bury him in the trash compactor.”

Andor is the most “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink” show in history
(I don't think this post has made it here yet but if it has, I'll happily take it down)
