Professional Life: I reblogged this to emphasize the need for recycled books. Speech pathologist use a lot of books when working with patients, and it would be very efficient for therapist to use recycled books, or books they have at home.

Professional Life: This is a photo of rechargeable hearing aids. For audiology, I can encourage patients to use rechargeable hearing aids. Traditional hearing aids use zinc batteries that usually make their way into landfills at some point or another. By using rechargeable hearing aids, we can reduce this by using sustainable energy.

Personal Life: This video is a great resource for providing how to make reusable shopping bags. If you have a sewing machine you are perfectly capable of doing this! My grandmother bought me a sewing machine for Christmas one year, so I will use this video to show me how to create these bags. I am guilty of using plastic bags from stores in spite of being lazy, but this video will help me make my own personalized grocery bags for the future.

Personal Life: I reblogged this because it made me think. I did not realize that food waste is becoming such a serious issue. This blog made me realize I need to take action on reducing my own food waste, because I admit that I do not compost food.
My household is a culprit of this massive problem, but we strive for less and less for food waste every week by making conscious shopping choices, cooking more reasonable portions for dinner/leftovers, and eating out less. Then we compost what food we must “throw away”!
What are you doing to reduce your food waste?

Personal Life:The Fairmined Standard requires minimal organizations to articulate responsible artisanal and small scale mining. Thanks to the Fairmined Standard, anyone who buys gold can access responsibly mined, traceable gold and support responsibly managed community mines. This concept shows how we can build ethical jewelry, and support environmental protection among gold mining. This is important to me because I love jewelry, and would like to be knowledgeable about where my gold jewelry is coming from. This video explains how The Fairmined Initiative creates gold to be proud of.

Personal Life: This is an article about which musicians use their voice and resources to encourage fans to “go green”. This article was really interesting to me because I learned that a lot of my favorite artists care about sustainability. Rolling Stone also describes how each artists plays their part in encouraging environmentalism. One fact I learned from this article is Jack Johnson requires distributors to engage in Earth-friendly implementations, as well as producing his CD covers from recycled paper. I will definitely be purchasing one of these recycled covers!

Personal Life: The making of records is not the most eco-friendly process. Records themselves are made of refined oil that can take thousands of years too decompose. Machines used to press records require fossil fuels, and chemicals. However, one thing that can be fixed to become more eco-friendly is the packaging in a record. This article goes into detail about how artists and vinyl producing companies can make their packaging more sustainable. This article interests me because I buy a lot of records, and would like to be more knowledgeable about which packaging types to look for in the future.

Personal Life: Designer Matthew Lim created this eco-friendly turntable with headphones, made out of recyclable and sustainable materials. The turntable incorporates cork, which makes up 10 percent of the turntables design, as well as 20 percent of the accompanying headphones. Other materials used include bioplastic, high-density fiberboard and aluminum. Lim’s purpose for this turntable is for the youth to be able to enjoy the sound of vinyl music, while creating an earth-friendly design. I have a lot of interest in vinyl music, so I would definitely consider purchasing this product.
