I’m finally back!! I’ve been out for at least 3 weeks since I had to finish my winter finals.

It wasn’t a fun time.

This is so true, and literally all they need to do to fix this is give Tommy more time and good writers that can explore his character, I get so freaking excited anytime he's even mentioned so I'm also really happy of seeing him again but it also makes me mad.

To me the way they show Tommy feels as if he was a character featuring in a famous show who says some stuff that references things that happened in his own spin-off show where we could see what he's talking about, but there's no Tommy spin-off, there's nothing else to see!! It feels like we're missing information that they just don't want to give us despite the foundations being right there, and it's so annoying.

I'm still really really happy to see him again, I love him 🥰

Ok but like I do have issues with Tommy's recent interpretations. And with the ThinkFast break up.

But it's not that I don't think that the current writing couldn't work or couldn't be canonically coherent in terms of Tommy's behaviours or how he's interpreting things or that the break up happened.

It's more just that we never have anything meaningful from this. Tommy not jumping to murder isn't a bad reaction on his part BECAUSE he clearly cares about David. Him apologising for being prickly isn't a bad reaction BECAUSE he seems to care what Wanda thinks and wants to be around her.

But also why does he want to be around Wanda? Why does he accept the hug? Even if we ignore the Master Pandemonium house roommate situation he was in what's changed over the years? We've never seen a build up of their relationship. If anything Tommy should be more bitter than ever about families and family dynamics.

How does Tommy know how Pietro would act? They've had... 2 comics together with meaningful interactions, I think, in like 20 years?

Tommy and David not working out can make sense especially with their baggage but it's so unsatisfying given what their relationship was, the promise it held, the lack of interactions or meaningful time and exploration, the lack of good significant others for either character for a long period now, the way the break up went down and the lack of exploration of that break up and their feelings, immediately getting David in another relationship with a character that only got a name like 10 issues in and has nothing else.

We still have nothing of Tommy's backstory, how things have impacted him, his trauma from years of unhinged and awful shit, his seeming lack of any deep connections, how he's coping with the 'being turned into a living weapon' shit in his head and not acting dangerously and callously but also having generally morally grey views on things and willing to do more intense shit than his previous teammates, no longer having a team or ... possibly even friends he can rely on, reincarnated soul shit, is he a mutant or isnt he and what does that mean if you were being mistreated for being a mutant and was fighting for mutant rights but you actually arent one, the Vision of it all, an identical twin to the "demiurge", having powers that other speedsters do not have and not willing to question it, being the son of Wanda, his birth parents, his inability to live in a normal home like the Kaplans... I could go on. I know I'm missing stuff. It's just all so fascinating. HE is fascinating.

And Marvel does nothing with him. Instead we get "Pietro would have gone for murder" or something.

I'm glad he's back. I just feel cheated story telling wise. Let him be complex please. Let him be loud, obnoxious, masking shit. Let him be attention seeking, callous, but also kind and generous and protective. At the end of the day there are hurt people, abused people, people deemed "difficult" or "hard" for a myriad of reasons. But they're still lovable, and need to heal, and should be accepted and supported and feel wanted.

I want a Tommy who is messy and still healing. Because skipping that healing is not interesting and is damaging. And there's no reason for him to be changed either. And giving free passes to other characters too!

But also Tommy doesn't have to be "fixed" either. Whether it's from trauma or neurodivergence or he just isnt like his family and is more morally grey and obnoxious that's fine too. He can heal and be more settled but still be kind of rude and shit.

I just. Yeah. I have issues.

I find it so hilarious every time Scorbus is compared to those ships bc they literally have nothing in common lmaooo

Being a Scorbus girlie and constantly reading "omg Scorbus is what these two could've been if only they were able to became friends 🥺" it's so funny like HAHAHJSK

That's such a surface level observation, and tbh it kinda shows that they actually do not know how Albus and Scorpius are at all, bc the similarities you could find are such a stretch that I don't even get why they add them in the first place, the point they try to make falls apart the moment they're mentioned bc it does not follow the narrative they're looking for 😭

Also the fact that it's almost always framed as history repeating itself, and by that logic one of them should be "bad" and the other one "good", and by the way it's put, the evil one should be Scorpius and the good one should be Albus.

But since Albus is meaner and Scorpius is such a nice guy, I think maybe it would be the other way around?? But?? What has Albus done to be compared to death eaters like 😭😭😭 my boy was just going through puberty, failing at everything, being bullied, probably having some undiagnosed mental health issues, while he was living on the shadow of his father who is quite literally the most famous and worshiped public figure ever, I feel he's allowed to lash out and fuck things up bc he's 14 and he acts a bit dumb sometimes 😭 but neither Albus or Scorpius are half as bad as the others soooo.

And the "Scorbus it's them if things were different and they were friends" just think about it for a moment, really think about it, you think those other characters would really act like them? Do you really? With how wildly different their personalities and upbringings are?

Isn't one of the points of Tcc that Albus and Scorpius are not like the ones who came before them? They're different from them, and that's why they work, at least imo.

Also, Albus would probably throw up if he knew that even when it comes to his relationships he's being compared to his father like HAHHAJS please give him a rest 😭😭

This is not hate ofc, and people are allowed to post whatever they want!! It's just my opinion, and I personally find it kinda funny, plus, I just wanted to yap about it, lol.

So much happened in those last 2 Agatha All Along episodes but I have Tommy tunnel vision so...

"There's a boy, It's a prank and they tricked him, he's gonna drown, it's a bad place. The people, the family, there's no one to love him, he's got no one."

THAT'S SO SAD OMFG? I'm so excited bc Tommy is getting some attention, but I'm also so sad cause his life is going to be so shitty like 😭

I hope the MCU knows how to make good use of him and don't just give him traumatic experience after traumatic experience and then do nothing with that PLEASE let Tommy shine, if he gets to have his moments in the MCU maybe they'll remember he exists in the comics as well PLEASEEEE he deserves so much better I'm begging 😭🙏

Also, Billy and Tommy have SO MUCH angst potential that the comics barely touch on, like, how difficult is it gonna be when MCU Tommy learns his magical twin (who got an amazing life) searched for a body to put him in and ended up in the body of a bullied child NOBODY loves 💀💀 that could lead to a very strained relationship, OR it could make a stronger bond between the twins, bc if nobody loved that poor kid before, at least now that Tommy's in his body he's loved by someone, Billy.

Also, I need Tommy to start throwing hands the moment he wakes up in that body like COME ON avenge that poor dead kid BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THOSE ASSHOLES!!!

Ok, so I’m gonna go on a little rant on here.

I’m a marvel comics fan, my favorite comics were the young avengers comics and absolutely loved the dynamics between the characters. I particularly loved Tommy Shepherd, also known as Speed. Out of the entire lineup of Young Avengers, I somehow saw a piece of myself within his character. But his treatment in Marvel Comics definitely leaves something to be desired. Especially with the whole thinkfast breakup which is is my last straw.

First of all, the writers reasoning for breaking breaking Tommy and David up is ABSOLUTE HORSESHIT! Tommy has no connections to the x-men, no connections to Krakoa, ITS NOT EVEN CONFIRMED IF HE AND BILLY ARE MUTANTS OR NOT! (Which is a whole other ballgame I don’t wanna get into) Their reasoning is flimsy at best and bullshit at worst because of this, and it gets even worse when you introduce a new love interest so soon after they break up OFF PANEL with a seemingly insulting dig at Tommy within the comic.

Second of all, I’m worried how this will affect Tommy’s appearances in comics. The last time we saw him was the scarlet witch and quicksilver miniseries. He barely, if ever gets any appearances anymore and the ones he does show up in, he was with David (Which is probably why the writer thought Tommy was an X-men connection). Tommy is frequently left out of major story arcs and team-ups, leading to me feeling that he is somehow forgotten by the writers and creators at Marvel. While Tommy has been a part of the Young Avengers, he is often overshadowed by other more prominent characters like Kate Bishop, America Chavez, Cassie Lang who’s with Antman, Noh-Varr whos with the guardians of the galaxy, his mother, his uncle, even his own twin brother! He’s often underutilized as well and when he is there, he’s just the goofier version of quicksilver.

Third, we barely get any sense of actual character from him and in moments we do it’s just immediately dropped. First example: scarlet witch and quicksilver #3, where he actively mentioned Davids supposed death (cuz he definitely didn’t know that David was actually alive? I’m kinda confused about this?) and he seemed to be kinda disassociated from with stating he wasn’t there until Pietro snapped him out of it. This isn’t the first time someone has died and Tommy wasn’t there. He finds his mom’s dead body before Trial of Magneto and later in issue 1, seems disassociated when talking with Kevin. In the infinity comics, he states that people always forget about him. I see that he probably often finds himself overlooked and underutilized within the vast universe of superheroes.

Just to headcanon with fact: It’s somewhat implied he may have been neglected. I mean we barely know anything about his life before except that his parents were divorced and he was in and out of juvie until he was a teenager. Considering that they didn’t give a shit about him, leaving their child alone to the court system, and then not contacting him. (Though I doubt he would want that.) He so desperately wants a family, and he sees that in the young avengers, in the magnet family (even if they’re a little fucked up, they’re infinitely better). The team breaks him out, and a kid who looks exactly like him says they’re brothers and this powerful witch is their mother. He doesn’t want to believe it. He can’t believe it because that means he has another family that actually cares about him. Then they find out about everything Wanda went through and he takes in the connection even further. The team goes on a few missions and find out they could save his mom, and then they go through trauma via teammates dying and and the avengers/x-men fighting over his spirit mom. The team decides to breakup, he doesn’t want this to happen, the only thing he has being taken from him, he doesn’t want this to end. But it does, and it hurts, especially because his brother is willing to let go of it so easily. And it’s even harder because he’s living with him, his boyfriend, and other family who’s too nice and so he leaves and no one apparently cares. He goes on with heroics alone, working jobs, meets David and recruits him for a stakeout, then gets kidnapped by an entity. He then comes back almost a year later and has to take it in stride. He goes through so much traumatic and sad shit and either no one cares or they’re too busy. He doesn’t have much support. David seemed to be the only support he had and they’re broken up now. Wanda has her own shit, Pietro has his own shit, Billy has his own shit. HIS OTHER TEAMMATES HAVE THEIR OWN SHIT!

I’d imagine he’d have some type of resentment towards everyone, especially Billy. He has the perfect husband, perfect family, has a great relationship with their spiritual mother, and has unimaginable power. In the infinity comics master pandemonium seemingly implied Tommy has some kind of powerful potential, but we haven’t seen that yet. They haven’t even made any foreshadowing towards that. But I’d imagine after the whole break up with David, he’d have a mental breakdown from all the shit he went through. His boyfriend dying twice while he wasn’t there, after the second time David breaks up with him then gets a new boyfriend almost immediately (I don’t know the timeframe, I’m sorry), I’d crack too.

Considering all of this I introduce the following options:

1.) Put him in a new team. Have him be apart of a new team of youngish heroes, or better yet make him a mentor. He’s great with kids. I can’t think of any actual teams he could be on, but just let him be a part of a team. Please?!

2.) Have him interact with more characters. Have him interact with his family more. Wanda, Pietro, Lorna, Billy, fucking Magneto and Luna, give him more interactions with them. Have him mention talking to Kate Bishop. OR ELI BRADLEY ANOTHER CHARCTER YOU’VE SEEMINGLY FORGOT MARVEL!

3.) Give him his own miniseries. Or a fucking arc. I wanna see my baby do something cool, not play second fiddle to Billy for once. Billy gets several different comics to appear in and has so much power. Give Tommy a power upgrade like in the fanfics. Develop his powers more, like those headcanons where he could manipulate time and space. If the writers on ao3 can do that, you can do it too. Or better yet, have him be an antihero, that would absolutely fit him better. Didn’t he literally kill people when he first appeared? Have him be a bit more violent when dealing with bad guys. Not completely sociopathic, just a bit chaotic.

Anyway, please stop sleeping on Tommy Shepherd Marvel, he has so much more potential, you don’t even know.

Or Billy and him have unimaginable power…

So I know that Marvel can explore this. No excuse to just throw Tommy to the wayside like this while Billy gets all the glory.

Kinda ironic that Tommy is a speedster, but is constantly left behind by the people around him (even by Marvel Comics itself)

Like, everyone around him has lifes of their own, his biological parents live separately and it seems like neither of them want Tommy to be actively in their lives.

Even though he calls Wanda "mom" or Billy "brother," neither of them are really family to him, Wanda has her life and her problems, she doesn't act like a mother to him, not even like a mentor, their relationship is good enough but it's not deep.

And even though Billy was the one who supported the theory that the two of them are Wanda's reincarnated twins, after revealing the truth, he has his own things to focus on, Billy has loving biological parents and two real brothers, plus the best boyfriend in the universe, he even goes to space and gets married.

The best thing that Tommy had was the Young Avengers, and I adore them, but I also can't deny that Kate used him to later stay with Eli, and later she uses him again when she is angry at Noh-Varr, and after Children's Crusade when the Young Avengers split up, what Tommy wanted most was for them to stay together.

And what happens when a new Young Avengers line-up begins to form? Tommy is "kidnapped" 💀 My dude is literally left out of the whole adventure that he wanted the most, and he didn't really form any bond with any of the new members other than David.

I ask a sincere question, what friends does Tommy have? Lmaooo, seriously 😭 because David was the only one from what I remember and after they date for a while they break up off the page.

Tommy has never had a stable enough relationship, and everyone he knows has friends or other superhero teams more important than him, Tommy has only been in the Young Avengers and his appearances are so few and short that it's almost as if he's not there.

And since Marvel hates giving my boy time we literally never have a clue what's going on in his head, but let me doubt that after being labeled as the "sociopath" problem boy with no feelings, it literally won't affect him at all 💀 That facade he puts up is literally a defense mechanism, we've seen his real opinions a few times and he's not like that, he does care about his friends, he may not think about things much but when his life is lonely and the world is too slow I think it is impossible to ignore, idk.

I know it's a lot of text but I'm on the path to read all the comics in which Tommy appears, bc I never thought he would interest me so much but he became my favorite character and now I can't stand how Marvel always gives him leftovers.

And maybe what I said doesn't bother him as a character, or in the future my opinion will be proven wrong, but if Marvel never shows us anything about him, all I have to deduce what's going on in his life is the miserable information they give us.
