he felt so light in this moment, like everything was going to be okay. he'd really needed some peace, quiet & a little nap to get through the day it seemed. he definitely could've kept going, but a soothing voice woke him & he snapped away, only now realizing he'd ...passed out on a bench in the park in some stranger's arms. he did smell pretty harmless. well, he also wasn't really a stranger, because nathan - as head of were werefolk in new haven, knew many of them, even if only by name & picture.
he knew this one; quite a big name in the human world, less so in theirs, because they all had bigger fish to fry on earth than to explore beyond the skies, but it was an impressive task to have achieved regardless. he rubbed his eyes & stifled a little yawn, sitting back up & shooting the other a sheepish little smile. "sorry, been a short night. thanks for not letting me drop. go, go. don't let him get away." he knew all too well what kids were like & how quickly they could just …vanish. tiny little monsters, really. “i'll just have to find someone else to nap on, shouldn't be too hard.” nathan added with a little smile.
Every Saturday Lyle liked to bring his son to the park, he sat on a bench where he could have a strategic view of the playground, everything would be fine as long as Aaron was in his field of vision. he had nothing to complain about his job, the money was good and getting paid to spend hours talking about something he liked wasn't bad either, but he liked those moments when he could just empty his mind and just exist, moments like These became more common after he moved to New Haven. 'capybaras are born to vibe' is what his father used to say, now he understood this advice, just as he was also happy that he hadn't listened to it before, otherwise he would never have reached where no other werebeast had ever reached.
He would have remained in this trance-like state if he hadn't felt a head resting on his body, yes, he knew there was another person next to him, but he still hadn't bothered to turn around to look, and just from his peripheral vision he still couldn't had been able to identify it, but from the smell it was an omega fox. the alpha was still calm, his kind was known for being chill and unbothered, but for this person to seek support like that from someone who was probably a stranger was a sign that he really needed it, so Lyle not only allowed him to stay there, as he also put an arm around the other body. he remained motionless for a long time, until he lost sight of Aaron then he gently nudged the other male and said softly in his ear "excuse me, I need to go after my son"

nathan never thought he'd spend his days the way he was. with twins waking him up halfway through the night on the very rare occasion that he actually slept at home & let the babysitter off early. rare occasion indeed, but ..he tried. taking care of life that wasn't his own... was so far out of his comfort zone he couldn't believe it actually happened. he shouldn't be alone with this burden. he wasn't meant to be alone with this. patrick was the one who wanted kids, he was the caretaker, nathan could barely take care of himself. he couldn't. soft sigh, fingers pinched at the bridge of his nose.
he still had the scent of baby burps in his nose despite not even being close to home anymore & he knew that he'd have another little soul dependent on him soon, too. nathan couldn't remember the last time he went to the park by the square to breathe in fresh air. like...never? yet here he was, close to passing out where he sat & dangerously close to either falling on his face or ...lean against the poor creature sitting on the bench next to him, though his belly would probably catch his fall. but his eyes ... he could just close them for a second....right? just... a second...

nathan wanted them to know.
the lake had been a project him & patrick worked on for many years, partially due to patrick's very own need for a salt water source close by. the ruthledge's - one of the oldest new haven families were all merfolk, including formerly patrick & his little brother prince. this had been in their best interest. turned out ... they did pretty well. at least ... he felt like they did. patrick loved the place - new haven's own little beach. maybe he should've taken prince, but nathan wanted to be alone. as alone as he could be with a stowaway growing within him. it wasn't going to be long now & it showed.
he wanted his unborn child to know their sire's favorite place.
the scent, the sound of water splashing, the way he felt when he watched people swim - people that weren't the one he was looking for. the one he'd never see again. he'd lie if he claimed that whenever he saw shark anywhere ... he didn't feel that little spark of hope rekindle within him - only for it to extinguish again. today though, he was just watching. he'd come here during his break, feet carried him before he even knew it. he didn't notice casualties underneath his feet until shark obscured his view.
bright blue ... blinked, unfocused & pale, words almost passing by. "i am, actually." but it wasn't the view the other might've thought. was he handsome? probably. no, definitely. but nathan didn't really care about his naked form. not today. though eyes trailed down, his words slowly sinking in. oh. he stepped aside wordlessly, eyeing the other closely. "shouldn't drop your clothes on the ground." the fox huffed, "there's trees, rocks.. plenty of surfaces to use." hand against his belly, he gave a soft sigh. "enjoyed the swim?"
-🦈- It was just a lake. Kraden was used to the open seas and being able to swim wherever he wanted but he couldn't complain. It was massive for a man-made salt water lake and it was close enough that he didn't have to plan around his need for the water. Even though he might have looked a bit out of place, a monstrous Great White swimming through the depths, it was still enough to sate his most basic needs; it was still freeing.
After swimming around for an hour, or so, he shifted back to his human form and lingered there in the water; floating on his back beneath the moonlight. After another thirty minutes, or so, he lazily made his way back to the shore.
Apparently he wasn't alone. Brazenly stepping out of the water, unbothered in his state of undress, the shark sauntered over to the other and crowded their personal space without a moment's hesitation. Staring down at them, his lips peeled back just enough to give them a peak at his sharpened shark teeth, a tense silence settled between them for a moment too long before Kraden finally spoke. "Enjoying the view?" He taunted confidently. "Is that why you're standing on my clothes, don't want me decent?"

"yeah.. yeah, i know. the attack left many homeless and afraid, rehoming everybody affected hasn't been easy, but ...enough of work. i'm on break." sometimes.... well, nathan always did unless he had someone to bully him into looking after himself, or looked after himself ...for him. patrick used to do a lot for him; from taking care of him to taking his calls, setting up his appointments & everything else he could possibly think of. now ... he had to fend for himself unless he could find someone new. he'd have to start looking sooner or later.
he opened the button on his suit jacket & sat down in the offered chair with a soft sigh on his lips. swollen feet were no fun. god, everything about him was miserable currently. "ummm yeah, so about that green... not my color. everything else sounds pretty good." including that massage, though he wasn't sure if he should accept it. he might ... he couldn't guarantee not passing out. he was ready to just pass out in this chair.
"it's been a long month." watching the love of your life die ....did that to you. but it wasn't the new one's fault. it was nobody's fault. god must've realized he sent an angel to earth & took him back. there was no other explanation, if you asked nathan. "i uh.." he shouldn't be thinking about him now. the lump in his throat was getting bigger, so he did his best to smile instead. "full program minus dye please."
"Yeah you really do need a haircut and a shave. But don't worry sometimes people just neglect themselves a bit. Besides you seem like you have a lot going on." Anders was friendly but incredibly blunt sometimes, lacking the finer nuances of social interaction. Raised by battle crazed dragonbloods didn't leave much time for etiquette.
He offered his chair to the other so he could sit down. Taking the cards he looked over it, and tucked it away in his pocket for later. The dragon blood wasn't one to tell others if he had problems to begin with let alone go and tell a council. But the offered was nice.
"So what are you thinking today? A bit off the top and tidy the sides? You are a war hawk? I can dye it green if you want. The facial hair is good just, I'll trim the neck. Edge it for you. Oh oh I give good shoulder massages cuz you know naturally heated." Anders said wiggling his fingers as if to demonstrate the heat he gave off. "You look kinda rough Mister Gray."

despite everything, nathan still had to live. once upon a time losing his (soul)mate might've meant he'd have given up, but patrick left him with a gift - a piece of him, so .. he couldn't. besides, town needed him now more than ever, he felt. ignoring colin, he was the longest standing member of the council at this point, which ... was a burden he had signed up for, but didn't really want. not when he was mourning, worrying about town & its people, whatever evil was trying to get inside.... & life growing inside of him. no thanks.
workaholic or not, days only had twenty-four hours & he was so damn tired. take care of yourself. he could hear his husband's voice still. wait, ex...husband. still, same thing. so, hair cut & shave it would be. oberyn had been town's go-to for that, but thankfully they found a replacement just about now. still rough around the edges, surely & adjusting to life in modern new haven, but nathan had no doubt he'd fit in like most others had.
"hello." replied with a polite smile, nathan felt a little sluggish today, maybe a lack of sleep, maybe the extra weight - he couldn't tell. nor did it matter. "nathan gray. i meant to come by earlier, but .." soft sigh, hands went up to wave around them, "everybody's been going crazy. i'm head of council. as we have no dragonblood in the council, your concerns will go through one of the others, so uh, if you ever need anything.." he fiddled with something in his courier bag, pulling a small card from one of the little crevices on it, "just leave a message. i... don't have a new assistant yet. but regardless! i really need a hair cut and a shave."
Location: Ander's Barber Shop (To be Named)
@foxlawed
Anders had been surprised by how easy this town was, he had been used to living with humans who were obsessed with money- and here things were just as they were. They asked him what he could do- set him up a work place and let him work.
As it was he was sharpening his shears and Razor's along a thickly scaled finger, dragon scales honed a blade far sharper than anything else he had ever tried. This world had so many new things, and even knew services offered by barbers now and he was slowly picking them all up. But some things never changed. A straight razor shave was as straight forward as ever and he was skilled with a practiced hand of 30 years.
As he heard the bell above his door ding he looked up and offered a smile. "Hello. Um. Sorry the place is a bit bare I have just set up. How can I help you- oh oh and I'm Anders. Well it's short for Anderson but I go by Anders."

life ...had taken quite the turn for new haven's werefolks' head of council. it felt like the universe was out to get him for something he didn't know he'd done, because after punishing him with heart break for half his life, universe gave him back what he lost & let him taste what that was like for ... not even remotely long enough before taking it from him again. permanently. how he was still going... he didn't know for sure, but here he was.
getting up every morning, grabbing coffee & breakfast if he could & then he headed to his office. he used to sleep at said office, but with his body changing .. a bed was more of less essential. aiden .. had been a great help. he was understanding & he had that same streak of must take care of other people patrick had in him when it came to nathan or his little brother.
nathan needed someone like that in his life & while at first he might've been in this for simply that, it was so much more nowadays. he was looking forward to his trips to the shop & tried to make time for one every day, but if not ... aiden had his back. he didn't know how he deserved him, but nathan was grateful. life was not easy & it was getting more difficult every day.
"morning." softest of smiles, though there was always that little voice in his head that he shouldn't be happy - he shouldn't enjoy another person's company when he could no longer enjoy spending time with the love of his life & that only reminded him that it should've been the other way around. but mother nature - as the time travelers called her... was not a just goddess.
"hmmmm, i think today.... i'll stick with regular. thanks, aiden." making it sound like he didn't always go for regular. nathan ...was a fox of habit. "how are you doing? busy day ahead? want me to sit anywhere special today?" moving & living his own every-day life was getting more exhausting. he was carrying extra with him after all...

As the owner of one of the bakeries in town, Aiden prided himself on knowing the wants and needs of his customers, especially when it came to his regulars. One such regular was the Nathan. He was familiar with the man's late husband, given that he was the one who would come into his store seeking out baked goods. But Aiden soon found himself seeing Nathan much more after the devastating events that plagued their town.
He had gotten to know the lawyer over the various visits he made to his shop. Aiden enjoyed the early morning chats with Nathan before he made his way to the office, and the baker had, on some occasions, even opened his shop a bit earlier to make some surprise deliveries, on the off chance that life wass too busy for the werefox to show up.
The familiar ding of the bell for the door entrance made the baker glance up with a warm smile on his face. "And a good morning to you," he said, eager to see the familiar face once more. "You want the regulars? I just put out the specials out in this first display case too, if anything catches your fancy or you have any cravings for something else."

new haven was a fantastical place in its very own, very unique way. its system surely was unique across the world - at least as far as they knew & it was quite efficient, if nathan was one to judge. communism sparked with a reward system and sprinkled with capitalism. but exactly that system meant that nathan could be the workaholic he was raised to be. being a district attorney - or as they called him here lovingly, a prosecutor was good work, but the cases he got were ... tame most of the time. new haven was, funnily enough, a rather peaceful place to live. if trenton's existence was ignored.
nathan liked to ignore him until he ...barged into his office. at which point in time he definitely couldn't ignore his existence anymore, unfortunately. still. nathan did more than just his normal lawyer work, given that he chose the rarest form of cases in new haven to be his profession, he spent the remaining time doing simpler work. property cases, family cases - nathan took on most he found. it was trivial work, but he didn't mind, so long as it kept him busy.
soft knock on the door before it opened a little. "your four o'clock appointment is here. want me to let him in?"
he.. thought he had a little longer, but .. sure. nathan gave a little nod in return, "yeah, i'm good. thanks." setting aside the papers of a case that wasn't this one, nathan fixed his tie & sat up straight & had his smile ready for his client's arrival when ... the man he sees is .. definitely an unexpected sight. "zed? that you?" wait. he was back? "hey, hi. uh, sit."

❛ do you think the moon is jealous of how pretty you are? ❜ (frat jock Pat we love)
@ofwings-andclaws
nathan never thought he'd find himself dating a jock, the kind of guys who used to make fun of him in school - who'd cackle & point fingers when nathan found himself overwhelmed by the voices. god, school time had to have been the worst. but... here he was, head over heels for that kind of boy whose main goal in life was to ... well, he didn't know what it was patrick wanted. other than becoming a lawyer of course. they were at law school after all.
honestly? he didn't mind in the slightest. patrick was wonderful, he was nothing like those kids who tormented him growing him. not that nathan spent a lot of time thinking about them anymore, but ... sometimes - in cases like this, it popped up in his head & the urge to share with someone was ... quite big. he didn't, though. what happened in school... would die with him. well, if patrick ever asked he might tell him, but the selkie had no reason to.
it didn't affect nathan much at all, he'd ... been through so much worse & had come to find his worth... in himself. at least partially. patrick by his side only enhanced that feeling. the alpha was wonderful to him & he couldn't really complain - so he didn't.
they were supposed to go out, eat in a fancy little restaurant, have a good time, maybe.... he could stay at patrick's place. he'd like that a lot. but first he had to show. he was late. which was... strange. it was usually nathan running late because he had too many assignments, too many extra courses, too many teachers & too much family shit to juggle, but no... he was here.
hands folded in his lap, nathan had sat down on top of a half wall, feet dangling just a few millimeters above ground, feeling slightly bored in his wait, but it didn't take too long until he caught a scent, too. he glanced up when he heard footsteps approach & shot the other the softest of smiles.
but instead of a normal greeting, patrick let one of his lines roll & ..nathan frowned. uh, no? it's a planet... it can't be. that attitude was exactly why the jocks in school didn't like him. who liked nerds anyway, right? "i don't, but... thanks."

[ snarl ] your muse growling and / or baring their teeth at mine during sex. (Trenton)
@ofwings-andclaws (non-con / dub-con as per usual for these two bc reasons)
claws dug into a muscled bicep behind him, the other fought with a couch pillow in a desperate attempt to escape, but the paws on him were unforgiving. one fisted his short hair with ease, the other held onto his tail. trenton caught him off-guard. in his own goddamn home. again. nathan might or might not have taken a few pictures for his online presence (it was grindr) with his tail out & felt quite proud of them, so mischief had taken over & he laid down on the living room couch for a little nap, which was when the bear struck.
he woke to torn clothes & grubby paws all over him, leaving not only sparks of something in their wake, but bruises, too as trenton was incapable of gentleness & nathan bruised so very easily. tried to escape, but it was to no avail. the firm tug to his tail actually has him gasp, but not in pain & he hated himself for it. it wasn't his fault, he didn't have it out a lot, so he wasn't used to the sensations as much as he was to others.
pleas & spite were useless this time, too. as per usual. trenton took what trenton wanted. those who refused or stood in his way would regret it & nathan did, every single day of his life. he wished he never took the damn case, but then again - he hadn't exactly been presented with an option. if only he could go back in time, he'd change everything about their meeting, including the lack of security. god, regret was laid on thick again tonight.
trenton never quite... waited long. clothes were exterminated, nathan's will to live challenged & diminished at the same time & then trenton would take what he came for. him. the alpha usually stayed away long enough for nathan to fully recover, so when he did return it was like they'd never met before & nathan's struggle began anew. he fuckin' hated his guts.
protest was swiftly silenced with a paw wrapping around the fox's throat, squeezing tight & tighter - usually tighter rather than just tight. mostly because nathan fought down to the teeth, with everything he had. at least at first. but when trenton pushed nathan to near unconsciousness & every permitted breath felt like heaven's gift, resistance dwindled & hopelessness took root.
nathan rarely faced trenton when they fucked (was that even accurate? it wasn't they, it was trenton), so the fox tended to try avoid as much around him as possible, but when fangs came down on an earlobe & a low growl rumbled in the alpha's chest & against his ear, promising even more regret & disgust (at himself), because the omega reacted to it.
it wasn't his fault.

What is the character afraid of?
How do they deal with bad memories?
What is this character’s role in a horror movie?
How do they hide their secrets?
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins does the character relate to most?
@ofwings-andclaws; more headcanon thiiiiings. <3
What is the character afraid of?
if we're being completely honest, he's afraid of a bunch of things even though he'd never really admit to it. one. he's afraid of deep water, so like ... when swimming, he won't really go in further than halfway above the belly, which mostly stems from the fact he can't swim, but nobody knows he can't. literally nobody. other than that he's afraid of monkeys because when he was a kid he saw planet of apes and for whatever reason, it terrified him & that fear is .. not extreme, but monkeys do make him quite uncomfortable.
last but not least & definitely his biggest fear.... that he grows old alone, with no mate, no family, nobody to even notice if he died & he knows the reason for that is that he pushed people away in fear of being rejected, but ... yeah, he can't really help it.
How do they deal with bad memories?
this one's easy. work, work, work, keeping busy & pretending nothing ever happened until he's so stressed & exhausted & frustrated he finds someone to yell at or have s*x with.
What is this character’s role in a horror movie?
oh no. XD nathan actually fits several. like, if we're saying teen horror movie.... the virgin & the nerd - or both at the same time. if we're talking adults, the nerd & the sceptic. or part of the couple that is so busy making out they don't see the killer's coming for their booties, because ..when he's with someone he loves, he goes blind for everything around him.
How do they hide their secrets?
with silence & by heavy verbal denial if someone should hint at a possible secret. he doesn't have a lot of secrets, though, because he's usually a quite honest person who stands by what he does.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins does the character relate to most?
that one's difficult. i'm torn between wrath & lust, although pride & envy tend to pop up, too.

[ TACKLE ] for sender to tackle receiver into a freshly accumulated pile of leaves.
@ofwings-andclaws
this fall marked four months of nathan & patrick being together, which was the longest (& first) relationship nathan had ever been in, but regardless of that, it .. was exciting. classes were off for a few more weeks, so nathan & patrick got to enjoy their days together. being able to spend time with the other without having to worry about essays & homework was actually quite nice.
they'd been out for breakfast together & were on the way back home - home being patrick's apartment, because nathan had pretty much moved in over the semester break & likely after that, too. although he'd wait with that & see if patrick wanted him to stay. he didn't dare assume - just yet. patrick could've felt different about living together, so while nathan hoped the alpha had enjoyed their time together as much as he did, he wasn't going to say anything until he did. yep.
somewhat lost in thought, which didn't go unnoticed by patrick, it seemed, he was walking one moment & the next he fell. or rather, he was flying into a huge pile of leaves. they'd been woken by the damn leaf blower, so this did count as revenge, right? if only in his mind, because on the outside, nathan protested heavily to the weight on top of him.
"you're so heavy. help. i can't breathe." they were fully covered in leaves, the huge pile spread across the area, too & patrick didn't even twitch. "paaaaaaaat." arms fell to his sides in defeat, his last breath left his lungs.... death by alpha cuddles.
but patrick wouldn't stand by & watch, so he - if jokingly, pressed a kiss to his omega's lips, blowing air into his mouth & chuckling when nathan started struggling again.
"still alive after all, huh?"
"uh, duhhh. you know how a body still twitches after it dies? see? that."
"and it talks, too?"
"maybe you just brought me back super fast."
"hmmmmm. we'll have to try that again." patrick hummed as he lowered his body against the other's again, squishing him underneath, though they both knew it wasn't actually lethal.
"ugh, you gotta start working out. you're too heavy."
fangy grin announced patrick was up to no good, "i know a way and we can start right now." & with that he trailed kisses down the fox's neck, mixed little nips & bites in - because he knew nathan liked it when patrick left marks all across his body - especially in places seen by everybody.
"....on a pile of leaves? no way! there's bugs and stuff."
"aw, c'mon. you said i should work out. i only want you happy, my dear fox."
"but not here! work out at home!" goddamnit, he wasn't going to include anything with more legs than 2 in their sex life. no thank you.
"alright." patrick stood faster than nathan even realized the weight off his chest was gone & pulled the fox up & after him faster than the damn police.
"where are we going???"
"my bed."

“Is that my shirt?” (CE!)
@ofwings-andclaws
nathan's first night at nathan's apartment & he couldn't... possibly feel happier. no seriously, he couldn't. the night had been amazing, patrick was amazing - he was away from home & that cramped little dorm room, which was amazing & nathan had never been ...more free than he was right now. if a little sore. patrick was a big sea puppy with puppy eyes & the gentlest smile, but he definitely was no puppy in bed. no.
still, they ... it was like they were made for each other. at least... nathan felt like they were. he couldn't look into patrick's head obviously, but he prayed that he felt the same. he prayed to a god he didn't even believe in. he'd give anything for this to work out, for them to just ... for them to last. they'd barely met & nathan was the last to believe in love at first sight - or love in general, but honestly?
he believed.
there was no denying it. he'd fallen for him - hard & pretty much instantly. the moment patrick's arms had caught him & their eyes met nathan knew he met his soulmate & while he'd not seen a chance for him to actually get him, he knew patrick was the one. he couldn't even say why. he had no explanation, which - for a son of lawyers in a family of lawyers would likely be considered blasphemy.
but it was what it was.
& patrick seemed to try extra hard to convince nathan of what he already knew. not that he told him. he didn't want patrick to think he was a hopeless cause, or one of those omegas who fell in love with every alpha giving them attention, because that wasn't the case. he hoped. no, no. it wasn't. patrick was special.
when nathan woke this morning, with an alpha wrapped around him, he... for the first time in a long time, turned off his alarm & nuzzled back into that alpha he'd likely die for without asking questions. he shouldn't mess up his rhythm, but he didn't really care at that moment. he could worry about fixing it for classes on monday.
although, when he woke a second time he was alone in bed. hm. he sat up slowly & rubbed his eyes & stifled a little yawn. the fox glanced around the room, but his handsome alpha was nowhere to be found. neither were his clothes. where.... had he taken them? he maneuvered himself out of bed & came to stand on wobbly legs, but nothing a little stretch & patience couldn't fix.
"patrick?" was he in the bathroom? hmmmmm. he... shouldn't..... but if patrick left him alone..... sly fox snuck to poke his nose into the selkie's closet, sniffing excitedly, his very much visible tail definitely wagging as he found himself practically slapped across the face with the alpha's scent. soft hum on his lips, he picked something & pulled it from the pile of clothes. yes, he wanted that shirt - or sweater from the middle of the pile. no, another wouldn't do.
putting it on, he couldn't help purr as fingers danced over the soft fabric, but he couldn't help jump when patrick's voice disturbed his little journey of freedom.
"is that my shirt?"
"not anymore, no. you see, by law ... i confiscated it for illegal storage, illegal sustenance residues and .. because it smells like you. all very valid reasons for a confiscation and there's nothing you can do about it, unless you're willing to take this to court." bright blue eyes grinned at the other, tugging the shirt down a little to cover his groin, his bright white tail swishing behind him. he.. couldn't help it. sometimes the sly fox in him just won. "i'm two semesters ahead, so... if you did, i'd totally win and you'd have to pay court fees.... reparations... you know? that's more kisses than you could ever give me."

❛ tell me that you don’t want this - lie to yourself. ❜ CE Natrick
@ofwings-andclaws; don't ask me, we cravin' pain tonight
everything was wrong.
this wasn't how this was supposed to go, this wasn't the future he'd seen for himself - this wasn't the love he thought he'd find once he got out of that house. it was all wrong. he didn't live at home anymore, didn't spend most of his days at the office anymore & still, his parents had their feet on his back, pulling him down. why?
& why did he have to fall for the one guy he shouldn't? or rather, why was that one guy his heart decided to open up for a liar? & why had he lied in the first place? why the charade? why the act? why didn't he just .. tell him? nathan might've given him a chance anyway, had accepted to get to know him, maybe... they would've had a chance, but how could he ever trust him again?
patrick lied to him, deceived him & the worst was .... nathan had ignored the voices, had argued with them for hours, claimed patrick wasn't what they said he was. he was wrong.
& the worst of the worst was... it hurt.
god, it hurt.
his heart felt like it burst into a million pieces & nathan was holding on for dear life. what didn't help was patrick's persistence. wherever nathan went, he was there. admittedly.... they went to law school together, so he couldn't exactly escape him, but he didn't have to keep popping up in his vicinity. didn't he realize it was over? didn't he see the damage? was he that blind? did he seriously think they could just go back to how things were before that dinner?
pffht.
nathan had successfully avoided any form of exchange - words, looks, physical contact for a good week. admittedly, he... hadn't exactly been subtle nor had he been very graceful in his mission, but at least he'd been successful. it didn't hurt any less. if anything, he'd dare say it hurt even more with every passing day. he yearned for him, yearned for his touch, for his silly compliments, his beautiful smile & the way his eyes would soften & shine whenever they fell on his. of course he still loved him.
love didn't just vaporize despite pain & hurt overshadowing the good, which nathan knew was normal & yet ... he wished it wasn't this hard. he just wanted for the pain to stop. anybody wanna buy a heart? it's broken, but easy-care - he didn't need it anymore.
the weekend... would be difficult. nathan had holed up in his dorm room, his roommate was out... partying or something & nathan had decided he didn't feel like it. not even the c'mon distract yourself, it'll help got him to go. he did... forget to pick up food, though, so he'd snuck out in a pair of sweatpants & an over-sized hoodie he'd never wear for class - nor would he the sweatpants. still, it was friday evening, so he might as well - he planned to be quick anyway.
he... didn't expect patrick to wait in front of his door when he returned with a little plastic bag clutched to his chest & pink tinting his cheeks. the omega stopped, dead in his tracks & ironically held his breath - like he'd go unnoticed if he just didn't breathe. not like patrick was a good fifteen feet from him, waiting & seemingly determined not to leave until that door opened.
patrick didn't know he wasn't in there, did he? given that he was knocking & talking to the door... yeah no, he didn't know. nathan could just ..... quietly turn around, accidentally drop his bag, because he was a dumbass & alert the entire floor to his location. cause why not. wincing to himself mostly, he glanced up & around & he knew that if their eyes met, which they did, that he wouldn't be able to....
"nate."
oh no, that smile. how was he supposed to stay strong? he quickly grabbed his bag & collected its former contents to refill it, once again clutch it to his chest & scooted along the wall towards his room - his eyes always on patrick's, simply because .... because... he just... he couldn't help but get lost in them, in the memories & the intense feeling of joy he felt when the selkie's scent his hit nose. but no.
"please go." brows furrowed, he was so close to his door, but patrick moved in front of it, making sure nathan couldn't slip out of his grasp again like the little eel he sometimes was.
"i just wanna talk."
"well, i don't, now leave me alone."
"nate, please. i can explain."
"i don't care, you lied to me. you set me up. just ... just go." he did not want to start crying in the middle of the goddamn hallway, but if patrick didn't leave.. he couldn't guarantee for anything.
patrick could try to explain, but it didn't matter. there was nothing to explain, it was all crystal clear. the fox didn't need it spelled out, he just needed to move on with his life. patrick.... stepped aside? nathan eyes him suspiciously, but fiddled with his keys nonetheless to open the door & slip inside, but just as he tried to close it, a large hand grabbed hold of it & before nathan could even comment, patrick had slipped in & closed the door behind them.
"just leave me alone!" he dropped his back on his bed before facing patrick again, but damn he was quick & before nathan even realized it, he was on his bed, too - on his back with both his wrists held & pinned to the mattress & a very tall, very handsome & liar alpha had climbed on top of him. he ground his hips against nathan's & he couldn't help a little gasp, which ... no.
"tell me that you don’t want this - lie to yourself."
"i..... i.... you lied to me. it wasn't real." bright blue glanced up, tears had formed & dribbled down the omega's cheeks slowly.
"no no no." clearly distressed he'd made his soulmate omega cry, patrick cupped his face & brought their lips together in the gentlest kiss he could possibly muster up.
"it's real. we're real. i want you, nate."
