This is finished, other than a bit of tidying up round the edges needed on photoshop... I started experimenting with colour a few months ago when discovering #promarkers and I am going to have this piece up in the artist open houses next month... We'll see if anyone likes it! Today at work, my colleagues and I tested out our latest product we've got in. These intriguing images are the result of #gelliplates. The plate is a synthetic jelly/rubber like material where you can use acrylic paint, for example, rolled out onto the plate into a thin, tacky layer with a brayer. The material of the plate acts like a very sensitive memory foam mattress; here we have carefully laid a feather out onto the plate in one print, and used an old skool bank date stamp to mark the other, taken the objects away and then lay the paper on the plate to pick up the marks that have been made. The plate picks up some remarkable detail. I always knew my mum's talented but this took it to the next level for me. Yesterday she showed me her creations during whilst at Uni... What is going on here? I hear you ask. This is some pretty medium-bending stuff. Using the traditional relief printing method, instead of carving an image into lino or wood, she has inked up a raw material (in this case, some canvas that's been stitched into?) and then pressed it onto paper. The result being this ridiculously aesthetically pleasing image showing how beautiful the natural elements of a material can be. Kind of looks like an x-Ray...
