❛ some people are so good at disappearing that you start to doubt your memories that they were ever there. ❜
Hugo knows about disappearing. Or at least he likes to think so. He grew up with a busy mother, and an absent father up until his late teens, but if it wasn’t his father’s service to the Citadel, it was to his project. Occasionally, Hugo lost friends in the military. Others he lost contact with. Now, there’s friends he’ll never see again because he, essentially, disappeared from their lives for good; there’s no going back. Hugo shrugs, wanting to make light of the conversation, to ease into what could be a difficult topic.

HE’S   LEFT   IT     alone for the past while,   figured it was just their way to cope with the stress and to keep frosty.  But a full blown conversation ?     “  You’re kind’f weird.  ”  A general statement made blithe by his lack of tact  ;  he really did mean no ill will by it.

He was rambling, wasn’t he. There’s only so much information he could share about Blasto.  Hugo is surprised Bain didn’t cut him off SOONER. ❝ Uh-- well, I won’t say you’re wrong, ❞ Hugo nodded, a little taken back, but no offense taken. ❝ Do me a favor and don’t go telling anyone, yeah? I gotta keep up with the whole competent and cool pathfinder demeanor I’ve been trying to work on. ❞ He joked. Partially.

THE GREEK GODLY PARENT QUIZ.
YOUR GODLY PARENT IS:  Hephaestus  Blacksmith of the Gods, Lord of the fire, forge and volcanoes.
You are brilliant and ingenuous and are known for building your way out of trouble. Children of Hephaestus love science and technology a lot, and end up with hobbies and careers to evidence this. Not unlike Athena, children of Hephaestus can sometimes be so consumed with their ideas and projects that they can neglect their personal responsibilities. Most of the time however, this detachment from society provides concentration and focus to finish their projects faster, whence they would require a break and get back into the world. You might have a reputation from not building many social attachments, but instead sticking to a few people that understand your quirks. Despite your gruff and calculated exterior, you genuinely get along with many people and you would help people out in a heartbeat. You never forget those who have been kind to you, but you are also not quick to give up on grudges much like children of Hades. You are also underestimated by many of your peers, and only gain their respect after having to prove yourself. When disturbed or disrespected, you can use your skills to hurt people but this is very rare.
Qualities : Creativity, ingenuity, inventiveness, resilience, introversion, insecurity, concentration, kindness

mendacitor.
For a moment, he almost lets himself fall into it, like the way sleep floats into the drowning. When was the last time he let someone take care of him? Any wounds he got were generally shallow enough to slap some medi-gel on and sleep off. He remembers getting a nigh-apocalyptic bout of food poisoning a few months ago, and holing himself up for a day and a half in a shipping container-turned-outhouse deep in the heart of the Badlands. He returned only when his stomach had settled, feigning good spirits despite the dehydration and the circles under his eyes.
Keema had told him once, in a low and flustered voice, how talking about sickness was a taboo among the angara. It’s a cultural quirk that seems odd to most humans, but to Reyes, it makes sense. There’s shame in injury, in illness - in feeling vulnerable and exposed and out of control.
Reyes lets out a breathless laugh as Hugo pulls him up, because he isn’t sure what else to do. He doesn’t like being doted on. He doesn’t like people trying to treating him gently, like some kind of sad and broken little thing. He doesn’t like feeling small and fallible.
❝You know me. I love a good cat-and-mouse.❞ Not that he’d wanted Ryder to follow, though. He’d been hoping he could slip away and fix it quietly, and return again, polished and perfect.
He watches a moment, a bit helplessly, as the Pathfinder begins to take it upon himself to help where help hadn’t been asked for. Reyes crooks his arm over his stomach protectively and leans against the sink counter.
❝Far be it from me to push away when a handsome man wants his hands on me, but these aren’t quite the circumstances I’d have imagined.❞ He tries to look debonair, even with sweat beading his forehead. ❝I was thinking more along the lines of, say… a moonlit evening, scented candles, the sound of crashing ocean waves in the background…❞
“Cat-and-mouse, huh.” Hugo huffs a laugh, considering a joke as he tosses his gloves aside. From the looks of it, Reyes is now caught. And guarded. Hugo notes how Reyes’ arm protects his wound, his body leaning away, as if to say this isn’t his problem. The Pathfinder figures tending to him would not be easy-- he did slip away, after all. He didn’t call Ryder, or anyone for help. Seems fitting, considering how the man loves his secrets and privacy. Reyes Vidal, Kadara’s enigma, holed up in this rundown restroom away from prying eyes.
“What’s next then? You slipping away once your wound reopens? Leaving me with the check? Romantic.” It wasn’t his intention to sound bitter, but he was never good with hiding his feelings. Ryder almost feels foolish being here. But he made up his mind the moment he ran after Reyes. What he does feel is exasperated with this man. Even on the verge of risking infection he’s still charming. Unfortunately for him, it’s not enough for Ryder to fall for. Hugo expresses it with a long sigh, averting his gaze to the supplies as considers his next approach.
He’ll start by removing the bandage, and then cleaning the wound, if he gets the chance seeing as the smuggler isn’t so easy to budge. Ryder glances at Reyes, forgetting his plan for a moment, then takes it upon himself to reach for his hand. He’s warm to the touch, clammy even. Hugo doesn’t care, allows himself intimacy, to run his thumb across his knuckles. He wants to be here regardless of the circumstances. Perhaps it’s him being the selfish one of the two. Ending whatever they were before it even started, yet still indulging in Reyes’ company. He likes it, likes him. Ryder raises his gaze to Reyes’ eyes, his hold firm.  “I’m not leaving, Reyes.”

❝ what’s he doing here ? what’s the plan ? what’s the game plan, man ? ❞
Tumblr media
“Shit–” One minute you think you have this calculated, from anticipating the enemies’ moves to the outcome. All it takes is one wrong move for it to go to shit, tossing all plans to the wind. In this case, one unexpected move as the man who hired them to do the job go out there and, well, do their job. Hugo crouches down behind a crate, feels Diosa join his side. No doubt his squad is just as confused as he is.            “What’s the game plan, man?”This just got way more complicated, and could get ugly. Hugo peeks out, spotting their client with his hands up, surrounded by raiders inching in on him. So much for infiltrating. Ryder thinks fast, formulating a new plan as he scans the area, the distraction buying him some time. A few minutes tops. Notes they’re out numbered: eight to five. He also notes the stacked up crates besides two raiders, if he could use his biotics it might help even the odds. Hastily, he turns to each of his squad-mates, as if to say: this is going to get messy. It’s a brief moment of uncertainly that quickly died down, buried away with his reluctance. This wasn’t the time. He doesn’t know how this will turn out, but he isn’t about to sit and watch.            “Follow my lead. We’re going in.”
