India is a country which is famous for its rich, finger licking cuisines. Indian food cuisines will leave you awestruck and craving for more of its delicious dishes. The plus point about Indian food is that it has a large variety of food to offer. Indian food offers a wide variety of vegetarian food which is rich in herbs, vegetables, fruits, and the most famous spices.
The Indian spices used in Indian cuisine are what make its better and different from other cuisines. The spices used in Indian food gives it a smell that will leave you licking your fingers and asking for more. But Indian cuisine is not necessarily vegetarian, that is a big misconception, there are a large number of non vegetarian Indian dishes too, chicken biryani is one example of such a dish and is highly famous food for Indian as well as international masses.
There is no way that you will find the richness, aroma, flavor and texture of Indian food in any other international cuisine. These are the major factors for which Indian food is famous and delicious. Indian food makes extensive use of spices and uses vegetables for seasoning and producing a rich color in your dish.
Indian foods makes use of vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, all kinds of pulses, prefers desi ghee, as an alternative to oil, mustard oil and coconut oil are also used in some regions, and in meat chicken and mutton are preferred. The different types of pulses include masur dal, chana dal, tur dal and mung dal. The main staples of India are rice, bajra and wheat.
Garam Masala - A Mixture of Indian Spices
The basic herbs used in Indian recipes are mint that is pudina, bay leaf, coriander leaf and curry leaves. While the major spices are red chili, black pepper, black as well as yellow mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, fenugreek, ginger, coriander, garlic and garam masala. Garam masala is a mixture of most important Indian spices.
Different Indian regions specialize in their own cuisines. North India has Punjab which is famous for its extra spicy and oily food, lassi, which is a kind of drink made from curd; Lucknow is famous for its biryani.
In west, that is Bengal area, fish is the major content of food and you will find all kinds of fish delicacies there. While mostly south India is famous for its dosas, idlis and badas, but Hyderabad is famous for its Hyderabadi Biryani, while in west Gujarat is famous for its sweet flavor in all recipes and Rajasthan for its extensive Rajasthani Thali and sweets.
Therefore is a country of diversity and this diversity is also seen in its cuisines also. Different regions different states have their own flavor and specialization, even every single city has something special and different to offer when it comes to food. Indian cuisine will definitely satisfy your palate; form vegetarian to fish to hard core no vegetarian, sweet to spicy, healthy to extra calories Indian cuisine contains it all.
