If that blew your mind, you should see the ones they have at the National Quilt Museum, https://quiltmuseum.org When I went recently, there was an exhibit that I could only describe as the "Wild World of Abstract Quilting" (yes that is a thing). Many of them made me think "wouldn't handling needles while tripping acid be dangerous?" They also have some crazy photo-realistic pieces, and some really beautiful artsy/traditional ones. The only problem is, if you want to visit, it is in Paducah, KY, which is practically the middle of nowhere…

It's frustrating that you can come up with the plot of an entire fic in just a few seconds, but writing it all down can take anywhere from never to forever.

This version of the progress flag legitimately looks so nice
Gilbert baker rainbow, huge intersex circle, the design is cluttered but in a good way 10/10
[ID: A version of the progress pride flag with a large purple intersex ring outlined in gold, looping through pink, blue, brown, and black chevrons on the side, which have a base of white. The horizontal stripes are: pink, red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, and purple. End ID.]
#as someone who lives in/regularly disappointed in OH#Holy Hell this is hilarious#ohio#OH#LGBTQ+ whatever

was recently in a social situation where I only had time to describe myself as a "huge nerd" with no further context/details. This cover would have helped explain a LOT.
#history#bardcore#song covers#the amount of time put into the lyrics for both content and getting it all to rhyme was insane#Youtube

probably Endless Legend. While I may have binged some educational games when I was younger, this was the first game where I looked at the "timed played" metric and thought HOLY HELL HOW???
what was the first game you played an insane amount disproportionate to the game's actual length mine were secret agent barbie & twilight princess (a normal selection)

I don't know which I find funnier: that the drawing looks like a bizarre crossover of Daniel and Jonah, or that the description sounds like a precursor to Sir Bearington.
One of my favorite historical deepdive topics is the friendship between CS Lewis (the author for The Chronicles of Narnia) and JRR Tolkien (the author for The Lord of the Rings).
There's so much good stuff to talk about like how Tolkien nearly broke off his friendship with Lewis because he wanted to put Santa Claus in his books, or how Tolkien got pissed about CS Lewis being called an "ascetic writer" in an interview because he watched him sling back 4 beers at lunch the day before. Plus the fact that Tolkien famously hated his work being taken as an allegory or metaphor, meanwhile Lewis was like "if one person doesn't understand that the lion is Jesus I'll shoot myself"
But I think my favorite piece of their history together is the letter CS Lewis sent to JRR Tolkien describing Aslan.
Because you think back on this time period and go "everyone was so stuffy and uptight and miserable, they're nothing like us"... but then the first ever drawing of Aslan by CS Lewis was this

This gave me a laugh, and thank you @anacrea for commenting that this is not a real dog. My first reaction was "oh God please tell me it's a just a plush and that no one fucking cubed their dog…" My second reactions was that, if anyone develops Startrek style teleportation, this would qualify as a "well, at least he's not inside out" level disaster.
This is what itd look like if minecraft added dog breeds btw

(see my reply for my dad going through the above story as well)
The opposite can also happen. I had a class were we had to present our research as an early draft. After my presentation, the professor asked me: "did you consider the impact of [this]?" Having no idea what he was talking about, I bs'd: "well, I'm not sure how much [this] was actually relevant to my thesis." And my professor replied: "well, if you'd like to know more, you can read my DISSERTATION."
My reply: "…ah, I'll get right on that" then literally put my foot in my mouth.
With the hbomberguy plagiarism video on fire right now I want to share my favorite example of egregious plagiarism.
I’m a marine biologist. Currently getting my PhD. I’ve done a lot of scholarly writing. Many classes I took as an undergraduate had big writing components. I took limnology at one point as an elective. This course had one such big writing assignment.
The professor told us a story. He said he once got a student paper that absolutely blew him away. It was way beyond what he’d expected from the class. This was before we had online tools to check for plagiarism. The paper impressed him so much that he brought it home to show it to his wife. She began reading it and then set it down, looked at him, and said, “Dan, you wrote this.”
This student was dumb enough to not only copy a published paper verbatim, but to copy a paper published by the professor of the class.
AND HE NEARLY GOT AWAY WITH IT.

OMG having the POV being their secretary is the best part – I’d like to see her completely unfazed by Two-Face’s psychosis, and when Batman/others find out she’s like “…and? How did you not know this?” She’s from Gotham, this is hardly the weirdest shit she’s seen.
gun to my head if I had to write a story about Two-Face the premise would be that Harvey's totally reformed, 100% in the clear, genuinely 0 interest in crime or murder, so he goes back to practicing law. but Two-Face is still there and ALSO practicing law so Harvey is like this upstanding lawyer working pro bono for various charities and nonprofits and what have you and then Two-Face is like a sleezy ambulance chaser taking out HUGE obnoxious billboards all over Gotham and recording the worst local commercials you have EVER seen. they share an office and work on alternating days. the POV character of this miniseries is the shared secretary who has to keep both of their schedules straight and the climax involves Harvey and Two-Face somehow legally being allowed to represent two different people who are suing each other

OMG I just checked the Lazarus wiki page a few days ago to double check that they were "gone" (bought and rebranded) for a response to a blog post…
when you’re telling someone that you were on the wikipedia page for defunct US retail outlets and they’re like “why” and you suddenly realize that this is not someone you can successfully communicate with

My version was during a history quiz, I was asked to name all 12 apostles. Deciding to deflect with humor, I said, “OK… John, Paul, George, Ringo… No? OK, Peter, Paul, Mary…”
Later, the question was “Who was Lazarus?” Me: “…nice Jewish boy who opened up a department store?”
Being raised by areligious jews with 0 exposure to christianity outside pop culture is so fun. One time I asked my ex-catholic friend why a picture of jesus had a bristle crown and she looked at me like I was insane. One time I heard someone mention the "lance of longinus" and responded, word for word, "Like from Evangelion?" One time during a history lesson my professor described an important monk and scholar as "Dominican" and I spent the rest of class super confused and hung up on it because I was very sure that the Dominican Republic didn't meaningfully exist as an entity back then, maybe she meant he was a native Taino or something but that's a weird way to say that and I'm pretty sure this was pre- European contact? Really fucks people up when they realize I genuinely have no idea.

I know it’s silly to use this as my reblog for proof of being a real person, but seriously I don’t use social media to make public opinions.
among this bot wave, im trigger happy on followers, and everyone should be doing this anyway. leave your account blank (or barely filled out) and at best you'll get softblocked and at worst blocked AND reported, so just put in one minute of effort and show someone you liked their post
