but yeah, I think what you suggesting is interesting! the sleeper agent thing in the comments could also be plausible, though I don’t think alex plans on expanding on this character since it’s been a year now..

that journal also probably changed his views on not only himself, but his whole family and the expedition as a whole. how odd would it be to research a cryptic in antarctica, finding your fathers journal on the famous expedition has some crucial info on said cryptic, before reading on and on and then suddenly you’ve ripped your eyes out because of the unexpected truth of who—or what— you are.

the new one is considered the “chestburster” and, after fully being out of the others body, became almost a replica of the other. almost immediately sprung up as an adult.

I feel like this implies that hugo, if he was indeed a ningen like his (replaced) father, never had a childhood to begin with. that is quite sad.

yet I wonder how he had come to pass off as a functioning adult. I mean, he never was really taught how to act like one considering he bursted out as one, physically atleast. does he just discreetly learn how to conform in japanese society?

hugo is coming up to that status as well. he’s such an interesting lil guy who has potential that goes unnoticed, since the series he’s in is not really talked about and manticore didn’t expand it after the 1992 vid

got around to watching The Ningen, and I find it pretty interesting! Especially with the only human character we really could see or characterize about: hugo funatsu

made some doodles of him too

I find him pretty interesting, as he’s the only other analog horror (haven’t expanded my knowledge on many analog horror series so inform me!) character that isn’t in america

basing off of the third video, he isn’t necessarily human, but unlike similar characters like adam murray (mandela catalog;btw i dont rlly support alex kister? idk what actually happened so-), he was asexually reproduced by presumably “keizo” using the wall of.. meat?

my interpretation is that meat wall was all the actual human crew and was used to create the red-lookalikes where hugo came from

if my interpretation is even remotely correct(I doubt that), then it would be reasonable to think that hugo is multilingual; he can already speak english and can read (presumably) japanese and russian, so I don’t think it’s too far off to say that he can understand the other languages the other men from the expedition speak and write

I’ve seen people sometimes compare the two spaces: wonderland and cornerworld, as similar. and I agree, they are quite similar since both are places that aren’t confined to one “-verse” and are more transdimensional spaces to cross between them

but I think the people who went to those places, specifically virginia and riley, kinda share odd similarities after being sent to those places as well.

both are found with an abnormality internally in their bodies and were sent to the hospital after experiencing their respective places. virginia overheard the nurses say that “everything was backwards”, meaning that all her organs were flipped, alongside her friends (side tangent; there’s a medical term for this! it’s called situs inversus). meanwhile riley has all his organs got “folded” most likely due to the almost otherworldly dimensions within those corners. this includes his brain.

both adopted some sort of art form as a way to cope or get through recovery. virginia painted of a better time that she never had after her lobotomies, and even before that she drew accompanying drawings to her story. riley created origami after his surgery, and made obsessive amounts of drawings that crowd his wall before entering the cornerworld.

and the two also tried to seek a way to go back after their first experience, whether to go back to the place they originally knew (virginia) or back to the interdimensional place itself(riley).

virginia wanted to find a way back home to her new york, even if that means waiting for years. it wasn’t explicitly shown that virginia wanted to go back to wonderland (I doubt that she ever wants to in her right mind) but I think if it was for the chance to go back to the new york that she knew when she was a child, she would. meanwhile, riley yearns to go back to the cornerworld not for a sickening feeling of homesickness virginia has, but because of this anger and utter contempt that they, the cornerfolk, left his brain open to any worlds that come enter his mind for whatever reason. he thinks of it as a sort of punishment for his curiosity, and eventual obsession, of them. so it would only fair to come back and

while a similarity, this last one, this last part is also a clear show of the divide between the two. virginias story is considered a tragedy by many, while rileys was dismissed as nothing else. important? sure, but not as tragic as the arnoldson. for her, she decided to keep going, even if it was full of pain, for the sake of everyone she knows. she blames herself (“I’m sorry, Ma.” “I’m sorry, Pa.” “I’m sorry, friends.” etc.) for something no one could anticipate (the special tree sending her to a different dimension). meanwhile, riley kept going in spite, and eventually tried to use his experience to bring more despair towards those who “hurt” him. even though he was the one who did it to himself, not the cornerfolk.

while the places remain neutral, the two people they’ve shaped are not.

so real. I feel like the people who do that type of stuff just don’t really bother to dig into the series that much and just put them against other characters. but even then, they are pretty fun to watch-

i think a monument mythos/nixonverse deathbattle episode would be cool but there's like a 90% chance that it's gonna be extremely inaccurate to the characterization of whatever character is gonna be featured in it
