I like to think that at some point Ed got bored and decides to become a professor at some big name Amestrian college. 

   His specialty is a military funded class called Battle Alchemy, which he starts off by inviting any of his students to beat him in hand to hand for a conditionless passing grade (by the end of the first class, most students walk away sore and horrified).

    It takes half  the semester before they realize that Ed continues to beat them even when they use alchemy and he does not. They ask to see him use alchemy in battle. The next day, a man who looks almost the same as their professor shows up to class- he’s softspoken and polite, and the students expect a substitute lecture. Ed sits in the stands and laughs as Al proceeds to fight the entire class at once, and beat all of them. The students never ask again.

  (And sometimes, in the middle of practicals, students swear they can see the Fuhrer watching from the edge of the field.)  

   I can also see him causing a hell of a problem when it comes to conventional textbooks- 

  “This is definitely wrong.” 

  “Sir, this is the most recently updated textbook for theoretical alchemy-” 

 “Yea fuck that, I can prove that soul alchemy isn’t unviable- someone hand me some chalk, I’m about to commit a mathematical felony.”

Headcanon that Ed’s hair just looks absolutely perfect and Winry has gone up to him and BEGGED him to tell her what on earth he puts in his hair and he just kinda looked at her and went “Uh- Soap?” and she got really upset because how dare he have such good hair and do absolutely nothing to it

he lied and actually spends like 45 minutes putting product and shit in his hair and thats the real reason why he’s always late

Headcanon that Roy had to teach Ed how to do taxes at one point and it went about as well as being in elementary school and asking your dad for help on your math homework. Like:

*three hours in*

roy: what does that say.

ed: i don’t know

roy: do you know how to read.

ed, sounding unsure: *sobbing* …YES???

roy: DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ, FULLMETAL. WHAT DOES IT SAY.

ed, sobbing: I DON’T. KNOW.

al, sitting quietly in the back playing with the cat he smuggled in: 👁️👄👁️

alternatively trisha taught him how to do taxes before she died because she wanted him to be prepared

I keep seeing a lot of “modern au” Edward ideas where people completely erase his disability by replacing his prosthetics with tattoos, so here’s a new headcanon I have:

Modern Au Edward would slap stickers on his prosthetics. I mean like little skulls or gargoyle stickers he bought off red bubble or something, and you know he stuck em on there good. Winry definitely yells at him every time she notices he’s slapped another one on there.

I do also think Ed would have tattoos, but replacing BOTH of his prosthetics with tattoos just erases his disability

[Spoilers for FMAB] I think one of my favorite things about FMA is the fact that Maes Hughes intentionally acts like an idiot in order to get people to lower their expectations of his capability. Hughes is one of the most intelligent characters in the series, he’s very good at noticing all the small details. He figured out a piece of information by episode ten that could have helped defeat the homunculi much quicker, and he was killed for it. He was able to piece together everything and figure out the transmutation circle, even though it was alchemy, which he doesn’t really understand at all.

He does love his wife and daughter more than anything in the world, but he’s completely aware of the fact that everyone thinks he’s just an idiot obsessed with his family and he uses it to his advantage.

Headcanon that one of the first things Edward did once he and Al had recovered enough and gone home was go with him to adopt a cat.

Alphonse ended up leaving with two cats, because they were siblings and he couldn’t bear to separate them.

Headcanon that Edward is a stay at home dad. He still does some research from his office, but he loves his kids so much and he doesn’t want them to have anywhere near the same childhood he did so he spends as much time with them as humanly possible

And once they’ve grown up, he takes a teaching job at a university.

Headcanon that Ed’s (english) voice sounds as raspy as it does because he screams so much and permanently damaged his vocal chords

Headcanon:

Modern day Ed and Al would go FERAL over gravity falls. I mean like they would get way too into the conspiracy theories, and stay up watching theory videos about it on youtube
