saraormara:
“Oh… th-that’s quite the issue…”
Great… turns out she’s a lot more lost than she thought she was. Ah… might as well make the most of it in the meantime. She takes a few more steps towards the flower, in cautious earnest.
“S-so, you say the name of this place is… Inkwell Isle? Did I get it r-right?”
It’s the first time she’s heard that name. It’s the first time she’s had to say it. It would be fine if she gets it wrong.
So why is she feeling so nervous about screwing up the name somehow?
Why does the feeling of home creep up on her right when it shouldn’t?
More importantly… why is she so unusually quiet today?
Cagney nods, adopting a thoughtful sort of expression. Misleading this girl was off the table now, but he’ll be even more damned if he doesn’t get something out of this. Maybe he could manage to coax some answers of his own out of this girl. After he learns what he wants, then maybe he could at least give her a good fright.
“That’s right! Though I can’t say I’ve ever meet a toon that hasn’t heard of the Isle before... Namseong City must be pretty far away. Did you walk all the way here on foot? Alone?”

Well, as strange as a talking gigantic flower is, he seems nice! The girl smiles timidly. “And I’m S-Sara… a-and it’s fine! There shouldn’t be any circumstance that prevents, erm, a-any form of social interaction!”
Gosh, does Sara wish that is the case. It’s so hard to see a friendly interaction in the school where she spends most of her time, let alone an interaction involving a good smile.
“I-I’m from Namseong City… is this your home?” She gestures around a little at the last part. She doesn’t know of many people living out in a place like this, but she supposes a rural lifestyle doesn’t hurt so much. Then again, this is a flower she is talking to…
Cagney waves a leaf dismissively.
“This little ‘ol forest? Nope! My home is pretty close, though, so you aren’t too far off! As for the direction of your home...”
Cagney brings the leaf to his chin, genuinely stumped. ‘Namseong’? He didn’t even know how to spell that, much less where it could possibly be. Was there a land beyond the isles with that name? Who knows? Maybe this girl was just crazy. Ah, but now he’s made it clear he doesn’t know by hesitating so long. So much for leading her astray. He offers Sara an apologetic expression.
“Er, I’d like to help you, but I don’t think I’ve heard of that city before. I didn’t even know there were any cities so close to Inkwell Isle. Or not so close, even!”

saraormara:
“I… uh…”
The whitehead looks around. Everything looks wrong? Check.
“Very much so, I-I think…”
She takes a few steps closer, despite her own discomfort. “Wh… who are you?” Oh my gosh, she almost asked what he was instead.
Jeez, this one was almost too easy. Walking closer already? If she had any idea what she was getting herself into, she should have moved in the opposite direction. Still, he grins down at the girl in what seemed to be a friendly manner.
“I’m Cagney! It’s nice to meetcha! Though it might have been better under different circumstances, what with you being lost and all. Where are you from? I might be able to help you find your way back.”
Well, that or get her even more lost. Whatever’s funnier.

Sara freezes up the moment she notices the flower. That’s… huge…
“What kind of carnation moves of its own accord?” she whispers to herself before stepping closer with trepidation.
And then it looks back. It has a face.
Oh god.
The girl’s obvious fear was more than Cagney could have hoped for. He hadn’t even had to do anything yet! As funny as it is though, it wouldn’t do any good to laugh just yet. Why risk scaring them off when there’s still so much more fun to be had? Putting on an air of surprise, Cagney calls out.
“Oh! Gosh, I haven’t seen you around before! Are you lost?”

saraormara:
A walk through the Whispering Slopes always calms Sara down. It’s nice to be trekking through the hills on a windy day, listening to the murmuring trees and trying to comprehend what they could possibly be saying.
This time, though, it doesn’t feel like a game anymore.
She swears the trees are actually trying to tell her something this time. Something about this particular neck of the woods no longer seems right to her. Something about this part of home is no longer that–home.
But Sara is an inquisitive girl, and she won’t let the questions invading her mind go unanswered.
So she keeps walking down the dirt path, unaware of what she is getting herself into.
(( @floral-facade Dude, I am so sorry, I fell asleep after I came home and just effed up my sleep schedule all over again XD))
The further she walks down the path, the more the woods slowly shift to something more surreal. Even further, and the surroundings are unmistakably cartoonish in nature. Everything from the dirt under her feet to the grass and trees around her appear to be straight from a sketchbook, despite feeling the same as they normally would. Eventually, the path leads to a small clearing in the forest, and right near the edge facing away from her is an impressively large, bright orange flower. A flower that was visibly moving of its own accord.
Meanwhile, Cagney pays little mind to the the footsteps behind him right away. They probably just belonged to a toon that lived around here or something. Instead, he focuses on carefully gathering the wildflowers in front of him. It’s only after he gets them into the basket slung on his arm that he bothers to turn and look...
Only to see an unfamiliar face. Oh. How very interesting.

the-dashing-mugman:
It was both a blessing and a nightmare that the other still resided in the same area. Mugman wouldn’t of blamed the other had he decided to locate to another area give everything that went down not all that long ago really. But it made this easier, as he would be able to talk to Cagney in hopes to bury anything leftover from their last encounter. Walking under then through the ivy-covered archway, Mugs laid his eyes upon the large flower. He took a breath as he brought his hands together, wringing them nervously as he collected his thoughts. Well it was a now or never moment really, he could easily turn around now to let things settle on their own. Ah, well the other had spotted him, backing down now might seem…rude if he were to attempt that now.
“H-Hello Cagney, sorry I didn’t mean to come here if you were busy. B-But I needed to talk to you, about..everything that happened.” Mugs glanced from his hands up to the giant flower, if there was ever a time to hit anyone with is ‘innocent’ look it would probably be now. “I don’t know if Cuphead is doing anything like this, but I owe you the biggest apology. I know we burned everyone’s contract thus making everyone free, but it still doesn’t make it right what we did.” There were obvious pauses in Mugman’s explanation as he was picking which words he felt best to use, and to try and be as clear about his intentions as possible.
Cagney turns fully to the mug as he speaks, the flower’s expression practically unreadable. It was an unexpected visit, for sure. Cagney hadn’t figured he would see much of the cups again. He hadn’t wanted to. Despite the kind intentions of the other, he finds himself getting angrier.
Cagney’s head tilts to the side as Mugman issues the apology, taking a moment or two to think before he responds.
“An apology, huh? Well gosh, that just fixes everything, doesn’t it?”
The flower’s grin drops into a scowl, and his cutesy act drops in an instant.
“Feh! If apologies and pretty words made things better, fights’d be a thing of the past, wouldn’t they? I’m gonna be real blunt with ya, Bluebell: you’re right. We’re free of our debt, but givin’ us a beatin’ ain’t helpin’ your case much. I’m sure there are plenty of ex-debtors out there that’d eat that apology right up. I’m not one of ‘em. Now, do both of us a favor and bother them instead.”

the-dashing-mugman:
@floral-facade
The cheers and praise from the many citizens of Inkwell echoed in Mug’s mind, they’ve burned the contracts which set everyone free from the devil. Still something didn’t sit well with him, that something became obvious as he walked around the Isle. Did they(he) deserve their praise? After all he did go along with collecting their soul contracts, a job from the very person who most were avoiding in the first place. So surely the cheers they gave on that day had just been out of rejoice for their freedom, and not the ‘them’ specifically. As Mugs continued his stroll around Inkwell, his fears were more or less realized as he felt the cold stares from most of the debtors he had both walloped and freed. Mugman wasn’t at all surprised or angry with them either, after all if he were on the receiving side of their wraith he would likely be upset too. It didn’t help the feeling of regret that pooled within him, but what could he do? Well perhaps an apology was the first step as that’s what he’d like if the sides were switched, though he knew he was more forgiving than he should be. Well there was no putting this off any longer, he was already half-way to one of many folks he owed a big apology to. Honestly he just hoped that Cagney still lived in that part of the forest he recalled, if not then he would most likely ask around until he found out.
Defeat was a bitter taste. All the easier for Cagney to be bitter about it.
He had long since channeled any sort of physical anger; the large oak in the center of his garden could certainly attest to that, what with all the new scars in the bark. However, the physical venting could only help Cagney so much, and anyone who had visited his garden could tell you that the large flower had been in a much more sharp mood than usual as of late.
Cagney’s garden was still in the little corner of forest it had always been in. Everything seems to be in the same perfect condition, showing no evidence of any sort of fight having happened before. Cagney himself busies himself with a patch of herbs not far inside, looking up at the sound of footsteps. Despite the pleasantly warm weather, there is a clear chill as soon as Mugman steps foot past the Ivy-covered archway that marks the entrance to the garden.
“Oh. Look who it is. Can I help you with something?”
