Porch, Wine and Gravy: Coca-cola Cake. Perfect. Fabulous dessert for a steamy summer evening - cool slice of velvety cake with cold vanilla tangy frosting. (The pre-dessert food was spectacular too). Delish. Pop-up Cajun comfort food, Wednesdays at @palsloungenola @porch_wine_and_gravy

Creole Creamery: Cookie Monster Sundae. Cookie monster ice cream, hot fudge, chocolate chip and oreo crumbles, whipped cream, a cookie wafer and…you guessed it…a cherry on top! I also added strawberries. Overall grade: A+

Picnic Provisions and Whiskey: Campfire Cookie Dough S’mores ok so here’s the deal folks - I had the great fortune to visit @nolapicnic their first week open. The fried chicken was good, but this dessert is THE reason to eat there. (Also, the fried chicken wasn’t on the bone, which somehow seems less like the casual-fun-picnic theme, and there was no whiskey list so I’m not sure why that’s in the title). But back to the most important part. There’s only one dessert, and it’s like a muffie (cookie/muffin hybrid) served in an adorable square skillet with whiskey caramel sauce and a toasted marshmallow and graham crackers. The cookie was freakin amazing - seemed to be still baking at the table, but so soft and delicious and perfect. The combination of textures - it’s like everything you want a s’mores to be, but with the best chocolate chip cookie you ever had. Seriously get the dessert ok? Overall Grade A+

Paladar 511: Chocolate and Banana Sundae - two types of ice cream with peanut brittle toffee and spiked chocolate sauce. EXCELLENT. The ice cream was perfect - creamy, flavored perfectly (even the banana!). Then the toffee and the chocolate sauce - big time winners.
Buttermilk Panna Cotta with roasted peach and lavender cookies. Very good. Nice texture for the panna cotta. Light and refreshing flavor yet still creamy. The peach was a bit like a compote, but it was delicious.
Of the two, the sundae was the winner for me.

Freezy Street: Chantilly Cake. Almond cake, vanilla ice cream, cream cheese drizzle, fudge sauce, strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream, yeah you right! It was gooooood. Definitely more refreshing in this summer heat than a piece of #chantillycake would have been.

Galatoire’s: photos (clockwise from bottom) Black Bottom Pecan Pie, Caramel Custard Cup and Cafe Brulot, Cafe Brulot in the making.
The Pecan Pie was AMAZING. It was perfect. The cookie crust was perfect texture, and the filling was super sweet and nutty, without being too sticky or too wet. Sublime. Custard was lovely - nothing special though. Cafe Brulot is a coffee-liqueur (or maybe it was proper likker? idk - it was alcoholic) with fruit situation set on fire at your table. It was good and basically tasted like a nice sweet-n-spicy black spiked coffee. Of course Galatoire’s killed it in service and style, plus there’s an A++ for Nola tradition. But seriously that Pie was ridiculous.

Shake Therapy: Chocolate strawberry shake with chocolate smear and chocolate chip rim, vanilla drizzle, whipped cream, chocolate cereal, and cinnamon pop-tart. This place is ridiculous y’all.
Overall super satisfying and fun to get all of these toppings and possibilities you don’t see elsewhere.
Drawbacks: a bit pricey, but you do get more than “just a shake”. The flavor of the ice cream was lost a bit in the mix - not much strawberry came through. And finally - I’m a fan of having choices, but I’m lazy and not always feeling up to creating my own concoction. I’d like a couple of “pre-set” shake options that other people have thought up so I can just breeze in and treat myself.
Overall grade: B+

Hansen’s Sno-Bliz: Stuffed strawberry lemonade snoball with strawberry topping and condensed milk.
A+ for tradition and being a super weird place with faded and old signs and handmade syrups along with rando posters and notices and toys everywhere. Snoball itself was grand. I don’t think the stuffing made it in; but it was still good. Workflow was a little confusing because each snoball artisan had their own counter space where you order and pay but that wasn’t clear at all bc Nola. Totes good tho and I got to keep the cup.

Freezy Street: rolled ice cream. Strawberry Shorty with blueberries and almonds added. The ice cream was soft and delicious - I’m not sure if there’s a reason that “rolled ice cream” is any better than any others, except that it’s made-to-order (fresh!!!) and faster than liquid nitrogen flash frozen ice cream. The rolled method also gives better coverage for the sauce toppings as sauce is drizzled on the sheet that gets rolled up. Part of my order was messed up as I also got a stuffed snoball that wasn’t stuffed and didn’t have the toppings I requested, otherwise they would get a perfect score. Overall grade: B
REVISION 11 July 18 - overall grade B. Their ice cream is really expensive for what it is. The rolled part is cool, but doesn’t seem to justify the price hike.

Chocolate peanut butter donut from Rocket Girl Treats (via Hivolt). Excellent taste and texture. Cake donut, not oily. Frosting has chocolate and peanut pieces in it for nice mouthfeel. Cake could be a touch more moist. Overall grade: A

Angelo Brocatos: Bananas Foster Cheesecake. Texture was perfect; just the right flavor with banana and banana pieces. Light but rich. Caramel sauce topping was divine - creamy yet dark and rich and smoky. The crust was almost perfect but a touch too thin at the tip, such that it got a little moisture-laden (that’s me trying to find a less offensive way of saying “soggy”). Overall grade: A

Commanders Palace: Cheesecake with caramel sauce. House made cream cheese. DIVINE. Crust was sugar butter amazingness, up until the “elbow” where it was coagulated into a lump of sugar. Don’t worry I ate that anyway. But that’s the only reason this piece gets a slightly less-than-perfect grade: A

Compere Lapin: Roasted Banana Zeppole. Banana cake fried with nutella in the middle, hints of cinnamon and fragrant spices (maybe clove?). Hazelnuts and rum caramel. Cake was perfectly spiced. Flavors of cinnamon and banana are layered into the cake taste. A spot of Nutella in the middle was the perfect texture and taste offset to the cake. Rum caramel sauce was creamy and a bit smoky. Overall grade: A+

It’s been a minute since I posted...so this week I had the great fortune of trying some new desserts and treats around New Orleans. I’ll post about each one and its host institution separately. However, I also want to refine my posts into more of reviews of the desserts as opposed to just cheerleading about each thing. It’s difficult when you enjoy sugary treats as much as I do, but I’ll try to be discerning. Onward! Thanks for reading!
