“My cousin, Scarlett?”
finn and laurel are marriage couple GOALS. you think someone can be the filling in that sandwich? my bisexual ass can only dream.
“I think few people could live up to the greatness that are Finn and Laurel but I wouldn’t mind seeing Garrett or Scarlett giving it a go. If that doesn’t work out and they’re still on the lookout I can always send them my contact details. I’ve been told that I’m very adventurous.”

“that’s great news, man!” garrett raised his nearly empty glass to that. he wasn’t at the point in his life where he was too crazy about settling down and having kids just yet. he thought he would make a better ‘cool uncle’ type. but he knew how much finn loved kids and was genuinely excited to hear the news. he tossed back the rest of his drink and set his now empty glass down on the bar top. “i’m working at the local bookstore. it’s been great so far, really quiet. lots of time to think.” a job at a bookstore was perfect for garrett, really. why he hadn’t thought of it sooner, he wasn’t sure. with his ever adapting interests, there was always a book to be read on the subject. “who knows, i may actually stay put for awhile,” garrett grinned with an easy shrug. he was rather notorious at this point for hopping from job to job.
Finn smiled proudly when his friend got all excited for him. Finn made it pretty obvious that he was a family man, and that if he had the choice - he’d just quit both of his jobs and become a stay-at-home dad. That was the dream. Right now though, that wasn’t possible. Finn raised his brow when the other male told him that he was working at a bookstore. “Shit, no way. That’s fitting for you. Better than working here.” He scuffed. “You sell children’s books there? I’ll most definitely come check it out with Lis if you do.”

She wordlessly followed him, looking around the room. She envisioned what it could look like, where certain furniture could go at. Where a mural could be painted at, featuring Pooh Bear and Piglet and Christopher Robin and the others. Maybe the bassinet and then crib can go right up next to the mural? Have the characters from the children tale watch over the baby whenever they slept. Protect the little one. Laurel’s smile slowly grew the more she thought of it. She took a seat on his lap, cuddling up close to him. She closed her eyes for a moment. His question made her smile. “A little boy would be incredible… especially if he’s such a mini you… though a little girl would also be just as great… Happy, healthy, and loved. That’s all I want for this next one. Boy, girl, I’m truly happy with either. Though keeping the tradition as their older sister and having your eyes would be a nice touch.” The brunette opened her eyes to look up at Finn, deep brown eyes twinkling from her gentle tease. She adjusted herself so that she could straddle him, her hands cupping his face and tracing his cheeks with her thumb. “I love you. More than words could ever possibly say. You, Felicity, and this future baby mean more to me than anything else in the world, Finn Thatcher.”
The firefighter really wanted a boy. He probably wouldn’t say that out loud to Laurel. Not that it mattered anyway, they would get what they got and Finn would be happy either way. He just wanted this baby so damn bad. Finn smirked. That was such a Laurel answer, but he expected nothing else from his wife. She was just so loving, kind, and had everyone’s best interests at heart. He really lucked out. “Felicity would make such a great older sister. I can picture her now trying to play with the baby, teaching the baby all of these new things.’ He chuckled, as he his hands rested on his hips and he craned his next back to look up at her. “I love you, Otter.” He said with a tiny smile. He was hoping that this conversation had put his wife in a better mood. “And I love our family.” He said, trailing his hands down to grip her thighs. He reached to give her a gentle loving kiss on her soft lips.

Allister simply sighed, and looked down at the top of his beer can, tapping his thumb on the side as he tried to force himself to be okay with the other male’s answer. Looking out for Ellie? He couldn’t think of anything he’d done to make himself seem like he might not be good for Ellie. If anything, he overdid it trying to take care of her from day one, but he did know Laurel to be a very protective person. Maybe it would just take him longer to get into that circle than it did others. Some people were fast friends, and some took a little longer. He’d have to just accept that, and move on. “Sounds like a plan.” Allister smirked, and then turned to look at his friend again. “Thanks for bein’ here for me, man. I swear sometimes it’s nice just to have someone who gets me. Shit, I’m gettin’ deep.” He laughed.
Finn could tell he kind of hit a nerve for Allister. Ever since Laurel had been so honest about her mental health with Finn, he couldn’t help but keep an eye out for it when it came to other people he cared about. And yeah - Finn was a little worried about Allister’s mental health. He could just tell something was off. Of course, anyone would be upset after finding out your best friend’s wife doesn’t like you, especially since you’ve done literally nothing to prove otherwise. “Sorry...” He said, face faltering a little. “I’m not trying to excuse it, I just know that must be what’s running through her head.” he stated, finishing his first beer. He stood up and reached under him to grab another one from the cooler. “It’s okay, bro. You’re expecting a baby - every man gets deep when they’re expecting a baby. Shit.” He he shook his head and laughed.

garrett grinned when he felt a hand come down on his shoulder accompanied by a familiar voice. he spun around a grinned, pulling him into a one armed hug. “hey, man! good to see you.” he pulled away, now leaning with his back against the bar. “how’ve you been? keeping the place running i see.”
Finn grinned, and looked over at the other male as he pulled away from the very welcomed hug. “You know I don’t take any bullshit around here.” He joked, then leaned onto the bar. He did a once over on the place; he was still working and it was a warm, busy night tonight - aka a perfect storm for a fight to break out. “It’s good to see you too. I’m good. Laurel and I are trying to have another baby.” He said, raising his brow. Just about everyone in town knew how much Finn loved kids, and that if the Thatchers could afford it, he’d be a stay at home dad. “Where you working, man?”

Allister just shrugged when Finn said he was working on it, cause…that’s really all he could think to do. He didn’t know what he’d done to make Laurel so apprehensive of him, but he was used to being judged honestly. He looked completely different than he acted, and as much as he’d like to say he’d never been judgmental before, that was far from the truth. He was just as guilty of sizing someone up, but it still hurt to be on the other end. “Well, thanks for tryin’ man. Maybe you both can come over for dinner tonight. Think I may grill some huge ass steaks, celebrate and stuff.” He smirked, thinking the idea sounded so damn good.
The firefighter loved his wife more than anything in the world, and would chose her over anyone and anything. Any man would. It did really bother him that she wasn’t exactly accepting of his closest friend in this big city. He was getting there with her slowly but surely. “She’s got a kind heart. She’ll come around. I think she’s mainly just looking out for Ellie.” He said, trying to give him a reassuring nod. Finn’s mouth watered at the idea of steaks on the grill. “We will absolutely be there. I’ll bring the beers. And the toddler. Give you a taste of what you’re getting into.” He joked.

garrett was leaning against the bar, already a little drunk. he smiled at the bartender, his tongue darting out quickly to wet his lips before disappearing again. he was parched. but he was also getting dangerously close the limit he’d promised himself he wouldn’t spend over. “come on, you know i used to work here! there isn’t some kind of former employee discount? or even just like a… garrett is a cool dude discount?” he was trying really hard to be charming but in his drunken state he wasn’t entirely sure it was working. here’s hoping!
It had already been an entertaining night at Club Echo. He already had to kick out two people and it wasn’t even midnight yet. There was never a dull night in this club. Finn shook his head and laughed to himself when he say his old co-worker give that poor new bartender a hard time at the bar. “C’mon, man,” He said, walking up next to him and placing a firm hand on his shoulder. “Don’t give her a hard time. This is like her second week.” He joked, letting out a deep laugh.

“Finn, you’re not even that old. Yet, I feel like someone has kidnapped my older brother and replaced him with someone who is acting like he belongs in a nursing home,” she joked. Even though it had been a hot minute since she had a true conversation with him and it honestly felt so nice. It truly took her back to the good ol’ days back in Pennsylvania when she was just a little girl engulfed in the world of pageants and dance. “Oh yes, I am starving. What’s on the menu at The Thatcher’s today? I could go for something homemade for a change.”
Finn just raised both of his brows and gave his little sister a seriously? look. “Then why do I feel so old?” There was a time when Finn could party his ass off, shot gun a beer in under 6 seconds (yes, he timed himself), and get up the next morning to go for a three mile hike. He couldn’t see himself doing all of that now. It was definitely being a dad that aged him. “I think Laurel’s just making sandwiches. Nothing too fancy here. Besides, the kid’s picking.” He joked, pointing to his toddler.

Was she though? It wasn’t hard to believe that her own body was working against her. Her mind constantly was; Why is it surprising that her body’s doing so now as well? The brunette could only sniffle, crying softly as she felt so heartbroken. She knew that he was right. It was going to take some time. But god, how much time? A couple of weeks? A couple of months? A couple of years? How old was Felicity going to be once they finally have another baby? The idea of such a huge age gap between them scared her. Nodding wordlessly, she got up and followed him. She leaned against the other side, looking into the room. The word ‘nursery’ caused her to look back at him, eyes scanning his face before back at the room. Take out the storage and Finn’s equipment… Paint the walls a different colour, maybe even include a mural… The crib could be right over there and a rocking chair in the corner near the window. Laurel smiled softly and carefully dabbed at her tears with the back of her pinkie, nodding as she looked up at her husband. “W-Winnie the Pooh themed? Lots of yellows and greens?”
He hated this. Seeing his wife cry like this. He knew she was blaming herself for all of this, but realistically Finn knew there was no reason for her to blame herself. Of course, he knew that sometimes her mind didn’t work realistically. It was always plotting new ways to make his wife feel worse about herself. Before Felicity, he would have wondered why she was feeling this way. He could understand now though. He could try to at least. Finn looked down at the Turkish woman and noticed her smile softly. There it was. Putting on his best grin, he looking back into the room and nodded. “Yep. I love it.” He walked into the room, dragging his wife behind him by the hand and sat down on the bench press. He motioned for her to sit on his lap. “So...are we thinking a boy or a girl this time around?” He asked, raising his brow and giving her a playful smile. He was just trying to focus on the positives right now.

“Do you need me to teach you more lingo, old man?” She joked with Finn, now out of the park an back towards his place in Kingsboro. There was a pretty decent age gap between the two and they were currently living very different lives. He had settled down, gotten married, and started a family. Her on the other hand? She dove right into her career, wanting all the fame and money she could get her hands on. Maybe once she got a little older she’d consider having children but she was content with how her life was currently headed. “God, tell her to mix it up and have it somewhere different. I think that mostly everyone is getting tired of having it at Poconos. No thank you, she needs to get with the freaking times.”
“I could use all the lessons I can take from you, D. Even that new age lingo.” He joked. Since they’ve become adults, Delilah and Finn stuck to each other like glue at those damn family reunions. He loved them, but their racist great uncle was a little bit too much for him to handle There was also an incredible cornhole team. “I know. I know.” He shook his head. Finn looked over at Felicity when he heard her blocks fall to the ground, which was accompanied by a little squeal. She could build those blocks up and knock them down all day. “You hungry still? I think Laurel’s making lunch?”

She instantly curled up to him once he joined her. With her head on his shoulder, her eyes were back on the test. She kept willing it to change, to do a little ‘just kidding!’ and say Pregnant instead. But it didn’t. Those two words just stayed right there, burning into her memory and into her heart. It was so hard not to blame herself. To not question what was wrong with her and why she wasn’t pregnant. To be fair, it had only been a week. It usually took around four or six before the signs start to show. But… still… It hurt. It hurt so much. Laurel smiled lifelessly at his joke. “That… That’d be nice, yes…” Even her words were monotonous. He’s trying so hard to make her feel better and she’s just… acting like this. Guilt over not being pregnant and for acting selfishly pierced her heart. “I-I am sorry,” she whispered. The brunette looked up at him, softly kissing his cheek before nuzzling her face against his neck. “You’re trying and I’m… I-It will be okay. Just… Just a little more weeks.”
“We’re both trying, Laurel.” He reminded her. He just held her tightly. “We can’t expect this to happen right away. We shouldn’t have even taken a test right now. It’s way too soon.” He tried to reason. He sighed and kissed her forehead. “Hey, we have plenty of time. We’ll get there. C’mere.” He said, lifting her from his shoulder and grabbing her hand. He stood up and lead her towards the tiny third bedroom that they really just used for storage and Finn had a bench press and some weights in there. “So...if we cleaned this room out it could be our new nursery so that Lis can have her own bedroom. We can paint it, get a bunch of new furniture too.” He mused, leaning on the threshold of the door. He smiled down at her and raised his brow.

“Four? Oh wow, she is getting old,” she admitted with a laugh. It had been four years already? It seemed like it was just yesterday that she had gotten done recording Rich Kids and found out her older brother was gonna be a dad. So much had changed between now and then. “Flex basically means to one up people, show off how you have a better skill set or whatever,” she explained as they continued to make their way out of the park and back to his place. “Hey! With all the free time you’ll have, you can hang out with your younger sister that you oh so adore,” she joked. Delilah wasn’t opposed to the idea though, she really wanted to be closer to him now. “But yeah, of course. I like to keep busy with my own stuff but I can always find a free day for her.”
“I know, I know.” He repeated, shaking his head. “I can’t believe it either.” He really couldn’t. His life had changed so dramatically since they’d had Felicity and since Delilah had been on the show. He nearly got a divorce when Felicity came along, which he believed was one of the things that saved his marriage. “Got it. Flex. I’ll remember it.” He said, with a tiny chuckle and a nod. “I do oh so adore her.” He mused. He liked the fact that he had the chance to spend more time with his little sister now that she was back in New York. “Ya know, Aunt Margaret wants the family reunion to be in the Poconos this year. What do you think? I tried to get her to consider the Finger Lakes or somewhere else in New York, but she insisted on having it in the Poconos for like the third year in a row.”

She truly thought that it was going to happen so soon. They’ve been having sex like crazy ever since that night, trying to do everything they could. They both wanted another baby so much and she truly thought that it would all happen faster this time. She tried not to let the fact that it took them years before they had Felicity to alter her judgement. The brunette kept pacing their room, going into the bathroom and checking that little stick every five seconds. If Laurel has breathed any at all, she hadn’t noticed. At this point, she just kept the test in her hands as she paced around the room and tried to remain calm. She hardly heard Finn when the timer went off, the Turkish woman quickly turning it off and staring at the test. Not Pregnant. It was impossible to stop her face from falling. All she was able to do was shake her head as she sank back down on the bed, eyes only on the test. She tried to remember how to breathe as she finally glanced up at him. She suddenly was hit with a multitude of emotions, realizing she was going to hurt him. “Üzgünüm,” she squeaked out, eyes tearing up and bottom lip trembling. I’m sorry.
Finn tried his hardest to put a smile on his face for his wife. He knew she was going to be beating herself up about this. It was discouraging yeah, but they hadn’t been trying for that long, and they hadn’t been using birth control for a while before Felicity came along. He knew that this could be a long road a head of them. He hung his head, but really tried to work on that smile. He walked into their bedroom and sat down on the bed next to her. “Don’t be sorry.” He said, pulling her into his shoulder for a tight hug. It wasn’t the news he wanted to hear, but was he actually expecting them to get pregnant so soon after just starting to try again? He knew this could be a long haul. Maybe it was him that was infertile? She needed to stop blaming herself for these things. “This just means we get to have more sex.” He chuckled deeply, trying to lighten the mood.
