It quickly turns to bemusement. “What did she say?”

Gustus thumps his fist against his sternum, like he’s trying to beat a spasm into submission. “Uh, that’s my wife over there.” His eyes are watering a little, his voice strained. “She must be wondering where I got to. Good to see you again, Clarke. And happy birthday, Lexa.”

He ruffles Tris’s hair as he departs, whispering something to her that Clarke doesn’t catch but results in a peal of sheepish giggles, muffled by Snacha’s fuzzy head.

“So…?” Clarke says. “Going to fill me in?”

Lexa puts Tris down and with a few gentle words sends her scampering off to find the other children. She lays a hand on the balustrade and meets Clarke’s eye. Despite Lexa’s outward appearance of calm assurance, Clarke spies the ripple of tension below the surface.

“Don’t keep me in suspense, Lex.”

“She asked if we’re going to get married.”

One of the coolest parts about being a fan of fanfic is you can actually contact the author. And they will respond. And then you can message them nonstop until they allow you into their lives and then you’re becoming their beta reader and suddenly you know multiple authors of all types of fiction books and fanfic authors who will drag out their deleted fics for you to read at a moments notice.

Anyway. Comment on fics and message authors. It’s absolutely worth it.
