I always feel a strong connection with other Spanish speakers, no matter where in the world they are. Though I am used to communicate in English because of my work and this blog, I always feel blessed when I have the chance of working with others who share my native language. This is the case of Fanuna, a great artist from Puerto Rico who has created a wonderful work of art: El Tarot de Fanuna (in English, Fanuna’s Tarot).
I have developped a strong liking for this format, since as I always say, I get to admire 78 pieces of art whenever I want. Fanuna’s Tarot is magnificent: the cartoony style is not limiting, and packs a punch of symbolism and expression. The Major Arcana cards are usually my favourites, and in this deck they are indeed wonderful (just look at that Moon!)… but I honestly believe they are surpassed by the beauty of the Minor Arcana. The colour play between the four suits is amazing - cups are navy/dark orange, swords are light blue/yellow orange, wands are red/blue green, and quartz are pink and green. This choice matches the usual elemental associations of each suit, which really shows just how much detail when into each card.
As you may have already guesses, one of the suits is revamped. The traditional pentacles/coins/disks have been changed into quartz. This was done to add a personal imprint that I adore. There is a play with the white space (the part that is not coloured) that makes the colours pop. In terms of card quality, it is on the thin side - like regular playing cards. The back design is simple and matches the general style of the deck. I would have chosen a different box though, something that would better match the beauty of the deck.
Fanuna includes a random sticker on the deck, and I got the Bard of Swords. The booklet is small and concise, and she did all the researching herself. I do not really read it a lot for meditation, since I just prefer admiring the details on these cards.
She is active on social media, so if you like her contemporary illustration design, be sure to check her Facebook like page, her Facebook artist profile, and follow her here on Tumblr! :) And remember that you can get Fanuna’s Tarot in English or Spanish - a lovely chance to learn some Spanish in a very artistic way!

Thanks for the kind words! ★★★★★ "I'm loving the Fanuna's Tarot that I just received in the mail today. The deck came perfectly undamaged and I was so happy to receive it. The artist and owner of the Fanuna store was wonderful as witnessed during our communications in the last couple of weeks. In the images you can see the Aces, The Magician, The Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Shaman, The Lovers, The Hermit, and Death. Its such an interesting deck. The suits are themed with a set of beings and the colour palate of the is colored so you can differentiate between them. The Cups have mermaids and water creatures. The Quartz has green elven and forest creatures. The Swords has winged bird like creatures. And The Wands suit has elven magician-like and fire elemental creatures. I love how whimsical this deck is. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FANUNA! 💖💠💖" Veronica A B. https://etsy.me/2rudRTP
