How Zionist Propaganda Encouraged Trolling
Since October 7, 2023, platforms, influencers, journalists, and content creators have consistently posted and reposted news about Gaza and the ongoing genocide and terror that have persisted for 75 years. For many in the West, the history between Palestine and Israel is unfamiliar, and they are being spoon-fed propaganda that positions Israel as the righteous party in this “war.” This has led individuals to take time out of their days to post hateful comments on pro-Palestinian content, firmly believing in Israel’s innocence and righteousness. The normalization of colonization in the West, often rooted in its own historical experience, contributes to this perspective. The conflict between Israel and Palestine is historically, religiously, and politically significant. Zionism, from its inception in the late 19th century, has been a colonizing project, masked as the establishment of a modern state for all Jewish people. This itself is a form of propaganda. The idea of bringing Jews from around the world, primarily Europe and later the U.S., to a region with an already established native population, fits the very definition of settler colonialism: "to invade and occupy territory, permanently replacing the existing society with that of the colonizers."

Politics meme-fied this election season- Kamala is BRAT
youtube
Social media has always played a crucial role during election season, especially this one. As Gen-Z growing up and voting, in true Gen-Z fashion, memes had to surface. "Kamala is BRAT", and "do you think you just fell out of a coconut tree" and Kamala's meme-ability has made her the preferred runner this season among Gen-Z. Meme-fing elections has made Gen-Z more invested in politics, and thus more likely to vote!!

Internet trolls on both sides
Social media has bridged the gap in so many way, and one of them is hatred and violence. Now more than ever it is easy to harass people conveniently from your home without exposing yourself or harming yourself. Truly powerful concept.

It’s Bisan From Gaza – and I’m Still Alive.
Bisan Owda is a Palestinian journalist and content creator, who before Oct 7 2023 used to make cultural content. Since the war, Bisan has been in the forefront of covering the situation in Gaza in real time through her Instagram. She has also made a short documentary film (included in the link, check it out) and won an Emmy earlier this week after being accused of affiliating with terrorist organization (PFLP) by Pro-Israeli non-profits in attempts to revoke her Emmy nomination, but alas she won the Emmy. One of the most significant stories of politics through social media.

"Because the intersectional experience is greater than the sum of racism and sexism, any analysis that does not take intersectionality into account cannot sufficiently address the particular manner in which Black women are subordinated." - Kimberlé Crenshaw, CJR, October 23, 2018.
