Eziah relied on a wheelchair after performing the restoration spell on Sylvia. By the time he was able to walk with just his staff for support, Sylvia had fallen ill again. The second spell took everything out of Eziah, but… it was not enough. Sylvia, now eight years old, died.

As is customary in Audris, Eziah had no visitors during this period, left to recover and to grieve alone instead. Savannah would not visit him. She could hardly even look at him. She knew Eziah did everything he possibly could and more, but it hurt too much to face him.

The thoughts weighed heavy in the silence between them, unsaid, but all too loud. Eziah had failed. He let everyone down. It was Eziah’s fault that Sylvia was dead.

Gabriel was sixteen when he left home, leaving his mother behind with his father. A deep guilt sits heavy in his chest. But Gabriel is all too good at pushing down his feelings, and he is all too good at running away.

When it comes to magical healing, light represents life and energy. In the absence of life, there is darkness. In the body, this typically manifests as a deep purplish colour, usually associated with necrotic damage.

Clerics are able to harness divine light from their gods, and as such, make particularly good healers. Eziah is not able to create or summon this energy, and must either source it from magical items, or in the case of Sylvia, his own body.

Eziah now possesses a healing ring—a gift from a powerful and god-like sorcerer named Sirius. This ring, though plain and simple in design, acts as a potent source of life and energy. When used, it resonates with a white light that finds a wound and heals it, transferring the light from the ring to a creature.

When Eziah’s niece, Sylvia, was extremely sick, she had an absence of light and life energy. Her veins were dark and purple, and her body was dying. Eziah performed a spell to save her, transferring light and life to her, with himself as the source.

Light emitted from Eziah’s chest and was transferred to Sylvia, bringing her health and vitality. In the absence of a large amount of his life energy, Eziah was left with a darkness in his chest. However, Sylvia’s illness rapidly consumed her life force, and only a few months later, she fell sick again. Eziah did the spell again. The light that left his chest was dimmer and weaker, reflecting his own weakened state. It scattered and did not make it to Sylvia.

Eziah was severely depleted of health and life, causing prolonged weakness and illness. In the absence of light and life, the darkness in Eziah’s chest deepened. It will not get worse (unless he does another spell like that), but it is rather like a scar, or old bruises that refuse to heal. As Eziah slowly, slowly recovers his strength and health, his chest becomes less dark, and the pain (like that of nerve damage) becomes less intense.

As of now, two years later, it serves as a painful reminder, and a source of physical discomfort. Eziah hopes that one day it will heal and fade, but until then, he keeps it covered up, or uses illusion magic to conceal it when needed.
