HE CAN ONLY JUST SUPPRESS AMUSEMENT before it can creep upon his features in the shape of a knowing grin.     A NAP.    How on Earth she could’ve expected such an excuse to convince anyone is a vast mystery to Sam--- but then again, she doesn’t exactly seem to have been granted the time to fabricate a more coherent explanation. No one looks this ecstatic after a peaceful siesta. Sure,   he could refuse to accept Rosie’s excuse,  but it’s far too tempting to play along a little. Fingers briefly stroke his stubbled chin as if to show RELIEF for her return. 

“      Well, it’s good you’re back  ---  you can help us find BILL ,  who coincidentally enough seems to have fallen asleep somewhere as well.     ”

@soughtlove gets pain.

ANDANTE ,  ANDANTE  --- Oh , please don’t let me down.      When they were sat in the tiniest of rowing boats on the vast ocean and Donna admitted she was ‘   serious about what she’d said last night ’ ,   he instantly feared it was that very lyric she was referring to.  While only a few seconds passed before she revealed that was not the case ,  the first sentence of her sudden announcement certainly turned into a fertilizer for the planted seed of guilt in his stomach.  DON’T LET ME DOWN.        ALAS, IT SEEMS UNAVOIDABLE NOW.      The day is still young when Sam awakes , and the freshly picked oranges on the table provide a subtle hint that she has been up for some time already. Bare abdomen are visible above the white sheets as he rubs the sleep from his eyes, mentally preparing himself for what ought to have occurred many days ago. Her kiss on his lips is greeted with an almost painful lack of enthusiasm,  and when he settles on a kitchen chair the unexpected serious energy on facial features poses a sharp contrast to his JOYOUS mood of the past few days.

     “    Donna    ;        I have to confess something. I’ve been meaning to tell you before but it never was quite the right moment, and --  ”       NONSENSE , BOY !  SPARE HER YOUR PITIABLE JUSTIFICATIONS   &   SYLLABLES UNWORTHY OF BEING LABELLED “EXCUSES ”. Sam is a fool who has fallen for his own words ,  believing it’s true when he explains he failed to find a suitable time to tell her about his engagement. How about the very instant his heart skipped a dangerous beat upon witnessing her serenade at Lazaros’ tavern ?  Or merely an hour post that ,  when their lips met for the first time ?   Or the same night that ended with a passionate moment between the sheets, which has been reprised virtually every following evening ? Even NOW there is still the urge to simply WAVE it off, change the subject while she is still happy &  still looks at him without loathing.

Donna raised an eyebrow when she heard him say this. “I don’t know how I should take that.” She said but laughed as well. Of course, she was joking. “Why is it a surprise? You thought I might have gone to some American university or something like that?” She asked. Donna kept her eyes on Sam as she said this to him.

A SHRUG.  “ It's just that you don't seem to fit the stereotype. Posh , arrogant. ”  Perhaps it’s only his Irish blood speaking. Sam’s certainly BIASED , and the many stories of English frat parties gone wrong don't exactly demolish that prejudice---  BUT THEN AGAIN,  had his own student life really been much different ?

You know what’s nice? Realizing that during Sam’s slow reprise of S.O.S. in M.amma M.ia: H.ere We Go Again! he leaves out the words “S.O.S.” because Donna isn’t going to :) hear :))) him :))))) anyway :)))))))

          perhaps   her   figure   has   aged,   but   not   her   soul.   no,   her   youth   is   eternal   ;   &   along   with   youth   comes   donna’s   ability   to   be   IMPULSIVE.   i   do   !   her   impulsiveness   has   brought   such   happiness   into   her   world   —–   the   bella   donna,   sophie   .   .   .   now   sam.

          donna   laughs   at   how   funny   he   looks,   &   for   a   moment   she   is   brought   back   to   his   tiny   little   shack   all   those   years   ago.    ❛   OH,   i   remember.   ❜   she   had   used   it   in   choreography   with   the   dynamos.    ❛   can’t   say   your   dancing   has   got   any   better.   ❜

A CHUCKLE ESCAPES , and he finds himself entangling his fingers with hers again, pulling Donna closer as soon as his short yet no less AMUSING performance comes to an end. This must be what it is like to get entirely DRENCHED IN BLISS ,  and Sam is certainly not complaining --- on the contrary ;    he’ll permit joy to soak him to the core. An arm is raised in order for her to do a quick TWIRL before the distance between them is lessened again to a minimum. It still feels SURREAL to rests his forehead lovingly against hers while eyes don’t even pause their gaze to blink. 

“  That’s only because you weren’t around to PRACTICE with.  ”  But there’s PLENTY of time now to make up for those lost moments !

CANON-DIVERGENCY IN REGARD TO MAMMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN!

We all know that there are some mild to significant inconsistencies between Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! and one of them is quite relevant to (young) Sam in particular. While in the second movie he never reveals he is engaged and Donna finds out herself - the order of events that I have been following on this blog thus far - in the first movie it is mentioned during Honey Honey that “[Sam] has ANNOUNCED that he is engaged”. From now on this blog will regard the latter as canon. It seems only a minor change and Donna still has all right to be furious about his actions since he did cheat and did not mention his engagement until after about a week — BUT !! he does tell her eventually. This most likely happens on the same day as the one when Donna discovers the photograph of him and Lorraine in MMHWGA.
