Take Me Away From Here by Hedwig221b
Take Me Away From Here by Hedwig221b
Rated: Explicit Status: Completed
Story Summary:
Derek Hale looked terrifying. With his broad frame and muscles, with his wild black hair and thick beard, with his eyes the color of blood and fangs of a killer. Despite his kindness and his apparent attraction to Stiles, he was still a stranger, a predator, a wolf.
The thing is, Stiles would deal, but others might not. People found Lord Hale horrid, monstrous and unapproachable.
If Stiles stood behind him, no one would touch him.
He’d be safe with the wolf. If not from him, then definitely from everyone else. And that was enough.
Recommendation Reason: Let me start this off by saying that usually the MPreg tag is a no-go for me. It's a trope that I just can't get my head around. However, the rest of this work's tags and its summary were appealing enough to encourage me to click and I'm glad that I did. The author is clearly a talented writer with a gift for description.
As for the characters and their arcs I felt myself connecting most with Derek. He was so very sweet and patient with Stiles who is understandably wreary of the world around him. I love that the Allison & Lydia storylines were wrapped up at the end too; it felt very well handled and was a great way to finish the fiction. I highly recommend this tale for the Sterek romance storyline, but stay for the flowery prose and secondary plotlines.

Being Inside a Really Big House by P****Hands
Being Inside a Really Big House by P****Hands Rated: Explicit Status: Completed
Story Summary: Of course they end up running from the cops. Soaking wet, in their underwear and barefoot, clutching their new expensive clothes and shoes to their chests. “That was so homophobic” Dennis pants as he and Mac crouch behind some bushes. “Yeah they were real pieces of shit” Mac agrees. They look at each other, giggling like schoolgirls. The adrenaline rush has them giddy and electrified. Sure, they run from the cops almost every week, but being wet, barefoot and basically naked gives it a different flavor. Also, they’ve become separated from the rest of the gang, accidentally on purpose, and they’ve had their eyes locked now for longer than what would be considered normal between friends.
Recommendation Reason: While the non-traditional formatting of this fanfiction took me awhile to get used to, I am most certainly glad I did. This story hit all the right notes for me. It deals with one of the most interesting dynamics of the Mac/Dennis pairings (in my opinion:) their subconscious, natural Dom/sub dynamics. This is a topic that some writers handle all wrong, going to hard & brutal with the power aspects, but not this author. No, they handle it with such grace & delicateness; it’s quite impressive. The story in general feels very in keeping with canon. This may be my first It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia recommendation, but it most certainly won’t be my last.

Normal Again by CMTilney
Normal Again by CMTilney Rated: Teen Status: Complete
Story Summary: Stiles awakens in a psychiatric hospital. Is it another Alpha mind trick or have the last few years of Stiles life all been a dream created to deal with his mother’s death? This is an adaptation of the Buffy episode of the same name.
Recommendation Reason: Okay so, first, how is this my Teen Wolf fic rec? I’ve been reading and loving Teen Wolf fanfictions (aka. Sterek stories) for years now. This is a situation that I will be forced to remedy in the near future because there is such marvelous talent in this ship.
Onto the tale itself, yes? I’ll start this with a warning: this is not a fanfiction in a traditional sense. It’s a GIF Fic (which is a concept new to me actually) and, in all honesty, I’m not crazy about it. I had to watch some of the GIFs more than once because there was so much text and the frame rate was too fast for that (plus the GIFs that were used had watermarks from the network on them which interfered with legibility a little, but oh well.) I wish this was a fanfiction in the traditional sense with dialogue tags and scene descriptions and the like.
However, putting the format aside, I am recommending this fanfiction because it is brilliantly crafted. As the title suggests it is indeed inspired by the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode of the same name. CMTilney has taken that concept and adapted it to the world of Teen Wolf brilliantly. I can’t say much more without giving things away so just go read it...or watch it? Whatever, just go; you won’t regret it.

More Than Just a Game by Ivalee
More Than Just a Game by Ivalee Rated: Teen Status: Complete
Story Summary: When Merlin started his job as game designer at DragonVision, he was excited to join the team creating an RPG about the legends of King Arthur. Soon he was even dreaming about scenes from the legend, even if those were not part of the game. Or at least they weren't planned to be, but on each day after Merlin had a dream, scenes he programmed at work changed, resembling his dreams now. Instead of biting Merlin's head off, though, his creative director, Arthur, supported and encouraged him, even when Merlin's game scenes began to create a love story between the Once and Future King and his warlock.
Recommendation Reason: So it’s been awhile since I’ve recommended anything and that’s because I’ve been writing more fanfictions than I’ve been reading. This piece jumped out at me when I was craving a Merthur hit and, boy, I am glad that it did. While I didn’t understand the coding lingo, I didn’t need knowledge of it to enjoy this. Merlin was a fantastically adorable nerd and Arthur was so sweet, particularly toward the end, in his attempts to protect Merlin. I highly suggest this fanfiction if you like modern AUs with throwbacks to canon.

We’re A Storm In Somebody Else’s Teacup by Lady Paperclip
We’re A Storm In Somebody Else’s Teacup by Lady Paperclip Rated: PG-13 Status: Complete
Story Summary: In which Gwen’s passive-aggressive revenge leads to, amongst other things, Merlin making a new friend.
Recommendation Reason: This story is a modern-ish AU, which is very prevalent in this fandom, but it is earns the ish in my description well. I will admit that the above summary is vague as to the general storyline, but it does encompass the first chapter well, which was probably the point. If you want an overarching description of this tale, I can only come up with this: magical powers support group. Yes, seriously. This story is just so amazing that my brain cannot come up with words to properly describe why that is. I have read this story at least four times and counting. All of the characters remain true to themselves even with the alternate universe that it takes place in. This is a very rare thing in AU fanfictions for usually there are seams to be found in the writer's version of the characters, but not Lady Paperclip's Merlin characters.

UnBound by Nahara
UnBound by Nahara Rated: R Status: Complete
Story Summary: Merlin is captured by a bounty hunter before he ever comes to Camelot or meets Arthur. But when he is brought to Camelot, Arthur decides to set him free. Based heavily on episode 209.
Recommendation Reason: This fanfiction, as the summary states, is based upon Season 2 Episode 9: the episode I call the Freya fiasco...just kidding, kind of. I liked Freya well enough, but anyone who gets in the way of my ships usually ends up a hated character for me. Anyway, this fiction puts Merlin in Freya's place and Arthur in Merlin's. It's wonderfully written and deliciously. I highly recommend it.

Tears in Avalon by mugglecastlover31
Tears in Avalon by mugglecastlover31 Rated: PG Status: Complete
Story Summary: Arthur makes his final journey to a place of forgiveness. There, he is finally reunited with the only person he ever truly cared about.
Recommendation Reason: The title serves as a warning. This story is sad, utterly sad. It is set, mostly, after Arthur has already died. That alone gets me teary, but then there is talk of Gwen and Lance (who I normally feel no sympathy for but in this I do feel sorry for them) and Morgana and Merlin. It's pretty much an already around sad fiction, but it is so worth the read...and the tears.

Spell and Sword by Bec Le
Spell and Sword by Bec Le Rated: PG Status: Complete
Story Summary: Merlin and Arthur are two sides of the same coin, and through their love Camelot becomes strong. Set after Arthur becomes King.
Recommendation Reason: This fanfiction is different from most that I read: there is no dialogue. Normally, this drives me insane, but with this piece, it just works. The idea that Albion could be such a wonderful place because Merlin and Arthur are at each other's side is just wonderful. If you look for a quick pick-me-up, I definitely recommend this fiction.

Standing on the Edge of the Earth by thisissirius
Standing on the Edge of the Earth by thisissirius Rated: R Status: Complete
Story Summary: Arthur grits his teeth and feels Lancelot's hands on his back. "I didn't save one to lose another!"
Recommendation Reason: Episode codas are a bitch to write; I know, I have tried. Codas serve the purpose of correcting what some fans see as a misstep on the writers' part. This coda to "Lancelot and Guinevere" makes what is, for Merlin/Arthur fans, a difficult episode to watch easier to bear. Short piece, though it is, it does its job of softening the blow that is the episode "Lancelot and Guinevere" to our fan psyches by rebalancing all that we learned in that particular hour-long show in our favor. It is a Band-Aid for our sorrow-laden hearts, ladies and gentlemen.

The Scent 'verse by toestastegood
The Scent 'verse by toestastegood Rated: PG, PG-13, & R Status: Work In Progress
Series Summary: A series of fics in which Arthur is a vampire, and Merlin smells good.
Recommendation Reason: Okay, so normally it is not my style to read series like this...mainly because it bugs me. It is my opinion that a series of one-shots should just be combined as a chapter fanfiction. However, the above summary caught my eye and I could not resist because Arthur as a vampire? Hell yes. I certainly have not regretted my choice. This series has everything I want in a vampire fanfiction. Why is that, you ask?Possessive!vampire!Arthur. Yeah. Mmmm... I find it difficult to be coherent due to the simple yummy-ness of this tale. I'll grant you that because of the major changes that Morgana and particular Arthur have undergone they are not exactly the same as in the television series but leniency must always be granted when a story is alternate universe otherwise the story would be impossible to read. Therefore, in summary, Morgana and Arthur are a little different but not too much and the series is just wonderful and perfect for any Merlin/Arthur fans out there with a love for vampire tales.

Vengeance by lalazee
Vengeance by lalazee Rated: PG-13 Status: Complete Universe: XI Story Summary: “I would destroy worlds for you.” Recommendation Reason: Mirror!Verse, for those who haven’t watch The Original Series (TOS), was developed in a single episode and it is an alternate universe where everyone who is good in the show (namely the crew of the Enterprise) is evil. It’s a very dark and violent reality, even though it’s tame in the show because of the audience at the time and it was the sixties. Given its violent nature, I don’t often read Mirror!Verse; I’m not fond of the places people take such stories. Having said that though, this story summary intrigued me to the point where I had to give it a read and I’m glad I did. Somehow, this author managed to turn a story that should have been about destruction and genocide into a love story and effortlessly too., I recommend this a gate fanfiction into the dark and blood-coated world of fiction known as Mirror!Verse.

The Prince's Man by demon-faith
The Prince's Man by demon-faith Rated: PG-13 Status: Complete
Story Summary: I'm the prince's man, always.
Recommendation Reason: I read a great deal of one-shots, I will admit it; they are quick to locate if you know where to find them and quick to read. Most of them do not stick with me the way this one has. It is almost like a deleted scene from the show. The first half breaks your heart and makes you cringe in sympathy and the second half makes you want to cuddle with fluffy bunnies. It is just that good. It is just the right balance of prince!Arthur and normal!Arthur; this is a hard line to draw and this author has done so with precision.

This Fire by lalazee
This Fire by lalazee Rated: PG-13 Status: Work in Progress Universe: XI Story Summary: A year in the life of one James T. Kirk, age seventeen, and his time spent in Pike’s Institute for Higher Learning. Recommendation Reason: Okay, so by its mere description, I had to read this fanfiction. It’s a Star Trek: XI AU using the plot of X-Men. I mean, come on, those are two of my favorite fandoms right there. I was pleasantly surprised to the story good. Don’t get me wrong here, this author is very talented; it’s just that most times when I read stories where one fandom uses the plot of another they are weak. I find that an author usually knows one fandom better then another. I have been guilty of this failing myself. So, anyway, this story is very good both fandoms and well balanced and written seamlessly into one another. Of course, given its AU status, the characters have their noticeable differences but they are (like all other AU stories I recommend here) understandably and easy to accept. If you like X-Men and Star Trek, I highly recommend this fanfiction.

Pairing Pendragon/Merlin by Anon.
Pairing Pendragon/Merlin by Anon. Rated: Mature Status: Complete
Story Summary: Arthur is a BNF and Merlin is his prized beta.
Recommendation Reason: The basic premise of the story is that Merlin and Arthur are fanboys of the show, Camelot. They meet when Arthur, who is big deal in the fandom, needs a beta and Merlin volunteers for the job. Okay, to be honest, I don’t know where to start in explaining why this fanfiction is awesome. I like that they are both fanboys and nerd-like like all of us, fandom fangirls. I like the shouts to other fandoms thrown in (like Supernatural, Star Trek, etc.) and that the author managed to include other characters without taking away from the story. Mainly, though, I like the author’s handling of Merlin & Arthur’s characters. They are different and yet the same as the characters we know and love. I recommend this fanfiction to anyone who has always wondered what our boys would be like if they were fandom fans and you know you have.

This Could Be Love by ForbiddenLove7
This Could Be Love by ForbiddenLove7 Rated: K+ Status: Complete Universe: XI Story Summary: Jim Kirk runs from everything good in his life - except with regards to one particular thing, when he just can't. Luckily, Spock has no intention of letting him. Recommendation Reason: For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a dialogue person. My eyes are always scanning pages for it. Dialogue makes stories for me so the fact I’d thoroughly enjoyed this piece came as a shock to me. The lack of dialogue is an interesting choice in my opinion and not one that many authors can pull off, but ForbiddenLove7 has done just that. This introspective piece explores Jim’s reality through his own eyes. It’s quite the read and will make you want to hug Jim Kirk endlessly.

The Once And Future Prat by QueenMegaera
The Once And Future Prat by QueenMegaera Rated: PG-13 Status: Complete
Story Summary: Continuation of the latest episode of season 2, "beauty and the beast - part 1". Merlin vs. Troll. Merlin vs. Uther. Merlin is forced to show where his loyalties lie. Warning: Massive spoilers. Rated for bad language.
Recommendation Reason: This is another fiction that inserts itself into an episode and to be honest I think this should be the way the episode ended. I can't say much because it would spoil the story, but I really adored Merlin's speech and the final scene in this fiction. The whole thing is so inline with thev show and the characters are so spot on, it's a little amazing.

Tangled Destinies by keiramarcos
Tangled Destinies by keiramarcos Rated: PG (for the first part at least) Status: Work in Progress Universe: XI Story Summary: Spock convinces his father that his mother’s happiness is the most important consideration and the family moves to Earth where they meet Captain Christopher Pike and his adopted son, James Tiberius Kirk. Recommendation Reason: Anyone else get the feeling I'm incoherent when it comes to Star Trek? Yeah, well, that may be because I am. The talent in almost every member of this fandom astounds me a little. How the hell did one subject manage to entangle so many fabulous artists and writers? I guess the only suitable answer is that Star Trek is that powerful. Part of its power comes from the fuel provided by writers like the one who wrote this series of tales. The situation in which our beloved characters have been placed is equal parts what we know of the 2009 movie (mainly the Vulcan parts) and what we learned from the series throughout the years. It is a combination that is so social life killing, I assure that is meant in a good way, that readers are lucky to pull themselves away from their computer screens long enough to eat. This series is maddeningly addictive, but totally worth it!
