Makes no sense
Why would Azriel 'rebound' with your High Lady's sister? Unless Azriel is completely irrational, which he hasn't proven himself to be, so far, then why, of all people would he want to simply have sex with Elain and move on?
What happens after? He dumps her? Moves on to Gwyn?
Elain is distraught. Feyre is distraught for her, because it's the 2nd time she's been brutally dumped. Feyre is pissed. Nesta. NESTA is enraged--he dumped her sister to hook up with Nesta's best friend. Rhys, who loves both Feyre and Elain goes on a warpath. The Valkyries disband before they even started. Cassian is torn between mate/High Lord. Mor isn't taking Azriel's side in this.
All of this, so Azriel could rebound from someone that he'd rebounded from 500 years ago?
Makes sense.

Ok idk if others have said this before but shouldn't lucien have felt elains *feelings* during that night on solstice? Like isn't he her mate shouldn't he feel her emotions? Or was elain also blocking her emotions from him although I don't think she was thinking of that in that moment. Idk just thought it was weird, anyone have an explanation?

🤯
Girl you're wrong Lucien literally said "I'm getting my mate back" in acowar. Read the books or you just ignore everything that isn't elriel related??
Yeah, he said 'I need to find her'.
and then, he didn't.
Azriel said 'I am getting her back'.
and then, he did.
That's the difference.

Ur so right it's like azriel went for ELAIN even after Nesta ( who did everything for elain) said not to and that he'll die. But. He. Still. Went. For ELAIN. He would've gone without feyre. Others helping doesn't take away from him going knowing it's was a high chance of him dying. THATS what everyone loves he went even if he would've died.
Find smth else to try to make insignificant u failed once again 😄
They found Elain with Jurian's help, they couldn't have found her without his help, you know that right? You forget that it was a team effort and give all the credit to Az forgetting that Feyre was there and Tamlin helped them too. And Azriel didn't find Elain either, Jurian told them exactly where she was.
Yes. Very much so. It also included Azriel's siphon, which he gave to Feyre, thus weakening himself. It included Feyre, who went after her sister fearlessly.
I think they could've found her without Jurian, but Jurian definitely helped. And Tamlin helped Feyre.
But are you trying to negate Azriel's involvement? His virtually impenetrable shield that withstood direct attacks from the King of Hybern? His massive physical strength, which allowed him to carry two women, run, direct Feyre, and fly? His determination to get them ALL out? The shadows that covered them and protected them?
I know all of that.
I also know who was missing from the rescue. Elain's mate. And the sister that some claim 'did EVERYTHING for Elain'.
Funny how Elain wasn't missing on that battlefield a couple of days later, saving the two people who didn't save her.

STOPP IT I NEED TI READ THAT
So. I’ve just found out there’s a few theories comparing Elain to Blodeuwedd? Or that her story will be inspired by Blodeuwedd?
You mean, Blodeuwedd, the flower goddess who was created for one man (Llew) but fell in love with a different warrior? Blodeuwedd who loved this warrior because she could see the same light within him that she worshipped in the sun?
The one where the two guys have to fight it ou t so she can be free of her bargain to Llew and be with her true love Gronw? Kind of like a blood duel?
You mean the story where her and her true love Gronw have to use a specially made magic spear to kill Llew and thus her tie to him so she can be free? Kind of like Truth Teller which already exists?
Okay.

NO BUT HE HATED ILLYRIANS BUT BECAME SHAKESPEARE FOR HIS GIRLIE
After finishing chapter 16 of ACOMAF I am struck by how Feyre also seems to address Azriel more than any of the others but he doesn’t seem as willing to share. He’s polite, of course & answers her questions to an extent - but when it comes to how the bat boys met, he looks to Cassian to take the helm of that particular story. As if it’s too personal, which I would be willing to bet is the case considering Feyre says the following, when the conversation turns into how the Illyrians treat their females -
“Azriel’s eyes had gone near-vacant as he stared at the wall of windows behind me”
How interesting, that Azriel is marked staring at windows. Hm.
It’s also in direct contrast to another conversation we have at dinner, where Azriel opens up about something personal & dear to him. Hm. Also interesting.
It’s also made very clear how much Azriel hates the Illyrian’s in this chapter. I don’t know how anyone could suggest his story would involve the Illyrians in any aspect.

IM GOING TO DIE WAITING FOR AZRIEL TO TELL RHYS TO GO EAT CRAP AND THEN RUN TK ELAIN
Azriel: I’m going to the human lands tomorrow
Feyre & Rhys: no
Azriel: I wasn’t asking for permission
Azriel: tie me to a tree, Rhys. I’ll just fly with it strapped to my back
Azriel’s POV: I would crawl on my knees for a taste of her on my tongue
(All of these are paraphrased)
But you expect me to believe this dude is going to just follow orders? This guys just going to shrug it off and retcon his entire character plus four books of foreshadowing and just move on from Elain? Lol. Okay.

STRAIGHT TO THE POINT
If people are hung up on the “he wouldn’t call Gw*n a friend” line, it’s because it’s a pretty accurate description of their relationship before and after Solstice, and why it makes so little sense that two characters who aren’t close are supposedly the couple of the next book.
Based on what we know, Azriel didn’t train Gwyn. Cassian did. Azriel trained the new priestesses where it’s stated several times he was on the other side of the training ring. On his first day there he’s described as quiet and aloof to put them at ease, and three days after solstice he’s more “aloof and stonefaced than usual”. So all this time that he’s been there training, he isn’t talking much to anyone, even Gw*n. The first line of dialogue these two ever share with each other is 82% into the book, and their last interaction is at 84%. A line about a ribbon said by another character, which is more than likely referring to Gw*n’s competitive nature and not a romantic attraction, is not enough to build a relationship on.
So they don’t train together, he doesn’t spend time with her, and he isn’t talking to anyone when he is there training the priestesses. The one time we get a reference to them spending any sort of time together it’s a comment about a single 1 hour dagger lesson that’s never talked about or referenced again. And it couldn’t have been that important, because this comes before solstice, and afterwards Azriel still wouldn’t consider her a friend.
And if the “image of her smile” sparking in his chest is supposed to be so important, and signify a shift in Azriel’s romantic love interest, it’s certainly never alluded to in the actual book. The dynamics of their relationship are still pretty much unchanged, it’s still primarily focused on training. There’s no mention of a smile, a glance, a touch, a blush. No mention of them spending any time together, or getting closer. Hell maybe even a mention of them spending more 1 on 1 time together for training lessons.
Months go by from Solstice to the end of the book, and there is no indication that they are any closer than they were before when Azriel said he wouldn’t classify their relationship as a friendship, much less an actual romantic attraction. And it’s not like SJM couldn’t have hinted at something. She felt the need to include Gw*n blushing at Rhys, and the 2 priestesses sighing when Azriel walked by but nothing for Gw*nriel? And it’s not like SJM doesn’t know how to leave hints. She does it frequently with characters noticing something, or being puzzled by something. Case in point:
Like you two,” she said, nodding to Cassian, and then, a bit more shyly, to Azriel. Azriel offered her a small smile that Elain quickly looked away from. Cassian tucked away his puzzlement. Lucien was certainly not here to snarl at any male who looked at her for too long.
And it’s not as if she couldn’t have included a scene of Gw*n and Azriel actually spending alone time together in the months after Solstice where it’s indicated there’s a shift in their relationship. In ACOFAS, she specifically wrote Elain and Azriel staying up till 3 am talking about garden plans and then they’re left alone. Amren, Varian, and Nesta leave at 2 AM, Cassian, Mor, Rhys and Feyre go upstairs at 3 AM. And Elain and Azriel “remained” in the sitting room alone, where who knows what happened. But based on the fact that we got all of those hints in ACOSF that Azriel’s romantic feelings deepened and it was after this night when he started staring at her gift every night on his nightstand, it’s obvious something happened that caused a shift in their relationship.
And yet we get nothing like this for Gw*nriel. They aren’t friends before, there’s no indication of a friendship or intimacy or closeness or an attraction between them after solstice. There’s no mention of them spending any time together after solstice, or that they even talk to one another, even though months have passed. So what is there to indicate that these two characters who aren’t all that close, are suddenly going to be a couple when Azriel spent most of the whole book romantically attracted to and pining for another woman?

YESS
It is one thing to enjoy a ship with no canon romantic scenes, no canon foreshadowing and build-up, and that makes zero sense to the overall narrative arc and structure of a series with the *awareness* that you are supporting a crackship.
But what gets me about so many Gwynriels is they seem to genuinely believe Gwynriel could happen?!? They truly seem not to grasp that it’s a crackship?!?
They genuinely don’t get that SJM isn’t going to use a bonus chapter available to only a tiny fraction of readers to “change” ships.
They genuinely don’t understand that the argument that SJM loves to change love interests only makes sense when you are talking about the main protagonist of a series with multiple huge ass books in which to make that change (Feyre, Aelin), vs. Elain who will only have one book.
They genuinely don’t get that the repeating motif of 3s throughout the series is careful foreshadowing for 3 brothers/3 sisters rather than being “cheesy” or “cliche.”
They genuinely think Azriel “only wants Elain for sex” based on one bonus chapter, while ignoring the entire remainder of the series where he treats her with care and kindness time and again.
They genuinely think that a leading man in a romance series could be ordered to stay away from a woman and … actually just roll over and obey that order?!? They genuinely don’t grasp Forbidden Romance 101 setup when it’s staring them in the face.
They genuinely think it’s cool if Az is a “creepy incel” so long as he’s a creepy incel who ends up with Glenda.
They genuinely think a stoic, mature 540-year old Illyrian warrior would be interested in an loud, immature friendship-bracelet making enthusiast.
They genuinely don’t see a problem with thinking that Azriel saving Gwyn in Sangravah is the beginning of some epic love story rather than the most awful, traumatic moment of Gwyn’s life.
They genuinely think Azriel being drawn to the library by an unknown force, and then seeing an image of Gwyn in his mind for an unknown reason, is somehow great romance rather than suspect as hell and a HUGE freaking red flag about Gwyn.
They genuinely think in a world with MAGIC that it matters that Elain might not *currently* be able to carry Azriel’s child.
They genuinely think that Azriel, who is shown to be quiet and reserved, would actually find enjoyment in publicly duetting or karaoking with Gwyn, even though his characterization in the book tells us he’d think it was cringey and embarrassing as hell.
They genuinely think that Elain and Lucien’s mating bond is the end all, be all. They genuinely think it means nothing when SJM goes out of her way to have Rhys explain that mating bonds aren’t perfect and can be rejected.
They genuinely think that Lucien “deserves” to be happy and therefore everything Elain might want is irrelevant.
They genuinely don’t think it’s an impediment or red flag when it comes to Elucien that Elain “loses her newfound boldness” around him.
They genuinely think that one (1) man thinking you look bad in the color black means you have to be banished from an entire territory for life.
They genuinely think that Elain, who has been INSIDE the Cauldron and who killed Hybern, “cannot handle Azriel’s darkness.”
They genuinely think that in a series where SJM has bludgeoned us to death about the fact that “Rhys will always give Feyre a choice,” SJM would suddenly no longer care about choice when it comes to Elain getting to choose who to be with.
They genuinely think that Azriel questioned the Cauldron only for the cauldron to be…correct?!?!?
They genuinely think there’s no significance to Elain being THE ONLY PERSON IN 500 YEARS Azriel entrusted Truth Teller to.
They genuinely think Gwyn and Az are mates even though he didn’t give one sh!t about her personally when she was taken into the Blood Rite, and even though it was *Elain* he stayed with to protect when the library—where Gwyn works and lives!—was attacked in ACOWAR.
They genuinely think “I’m getting her back” / “You came for me” has no romantic significance.
They genuinely think Elain being repeatedly connected to roses and Azriel being connected to an estate named Rosehall is meaningless.
They genuinely think Gwyn saying one or two teasing things to Az (who does not reciprocate) is “romantic banter” and, apparently, they genuinely have never have had a friend, acquaintance, teacher, or mentor in their lives with whom they’ve ever joked without it being “banter” and irrefutable proof of a romantic endgame.
They genuinely think SJM just threw out the couple name “Death and His Lovely Fawn” for …. sh!ts and giggles, I guess??
They genuinely think 3 brothers/3 sisters is cliche, but that the current state of 2 brothers/2 sisters is a-okay.
They genuinely think 3 brothers/3 sisters is cliche, but that 3 best friends/3 best friends would somehow not be.
They genuinely think Madja saying a mate would know what’s wrong with Elain and then Azriel immediately knowing what was wrong with Elain was….idk, pure coincidence, I guess!
They genuinely don’t think it’s illogical to say Azriel “only wants Elain for sex” in one breath and then that Elriel “have brother/sister vibes” in the next.
They genuinely think that Nesta observed Azriel’s “secret” but will somehow ship him with Gwyn regardless.
They genuinely don’t grasp that it’s significant that Azriel’s hands are covered in scars and that SJM goes out of her way to have Feyre muse on how Elain must like seeing marks on her own hands from her gardening.
They genuinely think it’s clever to say “I ship Az with therapy.”
They genuinely think we’ll believe that they actually CARE about Elain when they say they want her to “stay single and be empowered,” and not see through the fact that they will use literally any nonsensical argument whatsoever, so long as it keeps Elain away from Azriel.
****
I could go on for days with this list, but I guess my point with all this is I really wonder sometimes what’s gonna happen with this fandom when Elriel’s book is finally confirmed.
Because, on the one hand, don’t get me wrong: it’s gonna be fun as hell watching all these delusional people utterly melt down over a pairing that was perfectly obvious if only you exercise basic reading comprehension skills and are able to distinguish canon from headcanon.
But on the other hand, I feel like they are all SO far down the Gwynriel delusion rabbit hole that the fandom is going to be pretty unbearable for a long while after the announcement.

COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER
That time Rhys said…
Tumblr media
And then the sisters teamed up with their respective bat boys to save Prythian not 30 minutes later?
Feyre and Rhys worked together to repair the Cauldron.
Nesta and Cassian provided a distraction to lure the King of Hybern away from the Cauldron.
Elain was armed by Azriel and used TT and shadows to save the entirety of Prythian and beyond by stabbing the king.
Yeah. They were brought together for a reason. Almost like 3 brothers 3 sisters is already a thing.

sjm own words
It started from this:
And I think Elain—Elain would like it, too. Though she’d probably cling to Azriel, just to have some peace and quiet.” I smiled at the thought—at how handsome they would be together. If the warrior ever stopped quietly loving Mor. I doubted it. Azriel would likely love Mor until he was a whisper of darkness between the stars. ACOMAF, Chapter 49
To this:
He was still happy to be Mor’s buffer with Azriel, but there’d been a change lately. In both of them. Mor no longer sat beside Cassian, draped herself over him, and Azriel … those longing glances toward her had become few and far between. As if he’d given up. After five hundred years, he’d somehow given up. ACOSF, Chapter 22
And then this:
Then his gaze shifted to Elain, and though it was utterly neutral, something charged went through it. Between them. Elain’s breath caught slightly. ACOSF, Chapter 58
Now we're here:
But she’d gotten Azriel one last year—a headache powder he kept on his nightstand at the House of Wind. Not to use, but just to look at. Which he’d done every night he’d sleep there. Or attempted to sleep there. [...]He had only allowed these thoughts in the dead of the night. Had only allowed his hand to fist his cock and think about her then, when even his shadows had gone to sleep. How that beautiful face might appear as he entered her, what sounds she’d make. [...]Offer and permission. He nearly groaned with relief and need as he lowered his head toward hers. [...] “What if the Cauldron was wrong?”
SJM: "But I personally don't like rereading stories where everyone's dead, at the ending or, like, you know, the couple I've been rooting for for ten books isn't together? Like, I just, that's not my cup of tea
Tumblr media
SJM knew what she's doing. She's been setting this up for a long time now. If she really "changed" her mind in acosf then we will never have any of this. Everything is pointing to them.

I can never hate rhys THIS IS AMAZING FEYSAND ARE AMD WILL ALWAYS BE SUPERIOR
( also sjm u r amazing)
The first time Feyre was painted and dressed up by the shadow sisters, so Rhysand could take her to the midsummer party, I noticed this sentence:  “My hair was coiled around a small golden diadem imbedded with lapis lazuli.”
Let me over analyse and explain why this sentence is significant. When Rhysand brings Feyre into the throne room all she can think about is how debased she looks with her sheer gown. In her mind Amarantha looks better because she’s dressed modestly. But lets forget about the dresses for a moment and look at what’s on Feyre’s head and not on Amaranthas, a diadem. What is that exactly? Well a diadem is a type of crown usually worn by monarchs, an emblem for regal power and dignity. Not only did Rhysand give Feyre a CROWN but a crown with a lapis lazuli. What’s the big deal about lapis lazuli, you ask?
Well, Lapis Lazuli is historically one of the most sought after stones. It has always symbolized the starry night (so basically the night court). Also, if you believe in crystals having some sort of “powers” lapis lazuli is often used for its strong emotional components, known for helping people overcome abuse, trauma, depression and grief (Which clearly Feyre needs help with).
Let’s also not forget the discussion between Rhysand and Amarantha when they stroll into the throne room.  “What have you done with my captive?” she said but her smile doesn’t reach her eyes.  “We made a bargain… one week with me at the night court every month in exchange for my healing services…for the rest of her life.”  This was Rhysand telling Amarantha that Feyre is his and not hers. Not only did Rhysand save the life of the human that Amarantha wants dead, he waltzed right up to the foot of her throne, and in front of all the courts, announced not so subtly that he thinks Feyre is going to beat Amarantha and he’s going to support her through it all. Feyre was so wrapped up in her concern over Tamlin that she believed this whole thing was just a way for Rhysand to torment him, when in reality it had nothing to do with Tam. It was Rhysands way to say to Amarantha that her reign won’t last forever.  This was Rhysand rebelling against his abuser.
