Fun little personality swap art challenge I did today :o)

This is generally how they act, just vice versa. Rex is almost always brooding, and looks mad or unamused most of the time. Snowy, on the contrary, is curious and cheerful. She likes to bother Rex because she knows she can get away with it. Rex is a very uxorious boy.

It's very fun to see Rex with a glimmer in his eye again. I always draw him with no highlights in his eye (or, at least, no highlights in his regular eye) to signify his pessimistic, unfeeling personality.

I see this sort of swap as a body swap sometimes, too. While I was drawing this I was imagining the two talking about being in the other one's body. It kinda went like this:

Snowy, in Rex's body: Wow! Look how tall I am, Rexie! It's kinda freaky looking at myself."

Rex, in Snowy's body: Sigh, I want to go back into... Oh, goodness. Oh. My- my voice? My voice! (Assuming they would have the voice of the body)

Snowy: What, do you think my voice is squeaky? *little humph*

Rex: ............

Meet the new conflict, and this story's antagonist, Erina!

I realized the book was a little bleak, and lacked substance, so I wanted to introduce a hero to oppose Rex. After Rex defeats Erina for the first time while bragging about his artifact, the latter makes it her mission to take it and make sure nobody else can use it.

Meet Snowy Inklan Hoshi!

Snowy's quite the opposite of Rex; she's bubbly, sweet, and colorful. She has an affinity for robotics, cybernetics, and music. When she's not at school (because she is NOT, in fact, an unhinged doctorate haver like a certain someone) or fiddling around with technology, she's rehearsing for her J-pop group or for her school's cheer team. She's got a lot on her plate, but she's almost always got a smile on her face and a boatload of passion for what she does to get through it.

She's my baby 😢🫶🏼...

Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite pieces of literature, and often times Rex and Snowy's relationship reminds me of Romeo and Juliet. Sometimes I take stuff from R&J and implement it into the Rexnowy (their primary ship name :o)) dynamic.

As a very, very general description, Rexnowy is the genre of gloomy/edgy/introvert x sweet/extrovert where the edgy one is evil and the sweet one is the only person that edgy really cares about.

It goes deeper than that, though. Rex doesn't absolutely hate everyone else, among other things that a generalization doesn't touch on— but I'll leave some of it to the book ;D

Okay, genuine question:

So, I wanted to confirm this after publishing, but Rex is an octoling. I don't plan to mention that fact any time in my book. I only have one slight hint that he may be one. Will I get sued?? I know Nintendo isn't so kind about fanmade media that gets published. I would like to argue that Rex being an octoling has nothing to do with the plot; he just happens to be one. But I'm still scared of Nintendo, so what should I do, if anything?

I would like to present to you: Early-Bird Malice: Rex's Infamy! (Or just EBMRI for short.)

(I'm still not sure if I want to keep this cover art lmao. I just wanted something to actually show as a book cover. My friends seem to like it.)

EBMRI is a story following a 14-year-old boy named Ashton Perdido (nicknamed Rex.) Rex is a cunning, successful supervillain who has garnered both magical and city sovereign powers. When he obtains an ancient ring that amplifies his magic, his mind slowly becomes a battlefield— starring his obsession for power vs. the resurfacing memories of who he was before his descent into evil.

I made this blog to document progress and give little fun facts about the story, world and characters!
