It’s wild to me that when I first watched MisMag season 1, I kept waiting for Sam to use enchantment magic on people. It was so obviously her strong suit (her wand was described as being like a microphone iirc), she just had to lean into it, but she repeatedly chose not to.
And then in MisMag season 2, we get to see her actively refusing enchantment magic instead of just avoiding it. Magical deities are asking why she didn’t go back to Seagull Peloton because it would suit her so well. The discord was VOICED IN THE NARRATIVE, and then,,
and then we see Sam’s breakdown when she’s fighting herself. I’m not actually good, you just fell for the lie. And her choosing magic of truth and knowing over magic of convincing takes on a whole new flavor. Because that’s Sam saying that she wants truth instead of admiration, when admiration is all she ever gets. She wants someone to see her, even as she believes that the her they would see is not actually good or smart or-
Her story came together so beautifully in that moment to me because it put all her choices about magic in perspective. And in the end, she proves again and again that she doesn’t NEED the enchantment magic- she already has that power, no magic required, and she wants truth instead.

This has been in my head for a minute but I need to say it. Someone on here had a horrid take about calling Sam a manipulator and that rubbed me deeply wrong, especially since CHARM is not convincing people to do things they dont want to do, its convincing people to do things they wouldnt NORMALLY do. Weugan literally says in the episode that she didn't make him, Jammer, or Evan do anything that wasnt already there. It seems a little icky to make this long think piece about how the character, whos whole arc is genuine connection, vs the other 3 characters who have made egregious and deeply manipulative actions in the same season. I promise the black woman saying "Hi" was not the threat you think it was.

"The greatest magic [is] behind things that you do every day, like loving a child, or a parent, or a sibling, or a spouse. And that the greatest acts of magic are not things that are quick and easy (like taking a life, like destroying something or knocking something down). But that magic is about doing incredible things, and that incredible things happen because you do them a little bit every day."
-Evan Kelmp, as performed by Brennan Lee Mulligan

I also think more movies about high school should take a page from bottoms 2023's book and just lean into being absolutely surrealist. Yeah the pep rally cheer is just everyone pouring water on one girl. The classes are sometimes four minutes long because that's when the scene needed to end. The actors are clearly in their 20s. It's the kind of having fun with genre conventions I just adore. Oh and also the murder you can kill the opposing football team it's not a big deal.
