➞ 🫧 : what habit(s) did you steal from s/i?

scratches at her chin with a clawed finger, contemplating for a moment. "hm. i feel like... no, no- wait, yes! seren is the one who helped me find a pair of bluetooth headphones that wouldn't fall out of my ears any time i did anything. that's why i was never able to listen to music while i worked, y'know! either they'd fall out of my ears, or the wires would get in the way, and while i can technically play music out loud, it really distracts my subjects! they can never hear me over it, they're always going," she suddenly takes on a distinctly mocking tone, "what?! what?! what are you saying, i can't hear you? uhg, it's so annoying!" a slight pause. "what was i talking about? i for- oooh, right! seren and her earbuds. yeahyeahyeah, so, she told me about a brand that would fit really well in my ears. she knew from experience because we have similar ears, and she listens to music like all the time, whenever she's doing anything. so i trusted her! and she was right! i do exactly what she does and keep one earbud out, so i can still hear everything that's going on around me or whatever."

"emperor scorpion!!! emperor scorpion!!! emperor scorpion!!!" she chants excitedly, bouncing on her heels. "i wanna be an emperor scorpion! they're so cool, and they have huge tails, and their exoskeletons are so shiny and black, and- i- i have one in my collection! a live one!! i can show you!" she then scurries off, presumably to go fetch a scorpion for you to look at.

"i pick the outfits she wears outside the lab!" the statement is presented with utmost pride. "because, y'know, all of my subjects wear pretty much the same thing. those boring, scratchy hospital scrubs... eugh! at least they're cheap to replace, right? ahem! she gets a little more freedom because she's one of my most valuable and well-behaved specimens, so when she does leave the facility - under my supervision, of course - i set her up with something from my wardrobe! we're both alternative, though she's a little more... grunge-y, than me? but i do have black clothes! and she looks amazing in them. so it works out."

"... this is gonna sound real bad, but you gotta bear with me: she is so much lazier than me, and i love it. no, seriously! i haven't stopped moving since i was a teenager, but she just takes things so slowly. it's fuckin' admirable. it's reminded me to slow down a bit, take things at my own pace for once..."

"in another life, i am a middle-aged man, probably named like, john, or something, who works as a trucker. my entire life is driving across the country, sleeping at truck stops, and hitting up bars between deliveries. i have no close friends, no higher purpose, nothing. i drive a truck and that's it. that's my life." she's dead serious.

"picking out your girl's outfits is some real controlling shit. she's a grown-ass adult, she can throw together her own fuckin' outfits. which, by the way, always look amazing. i mean, whew! she'll chew me out if i gush too hard on her account, but my god, have any of y'all seen her?"

“Would you. . .” Jinx carefully maneuvers Winter’s face to the side, and he watches her the best he can out of the corner of his eye.

“Mhm,” He prompts her to continue, struggling not to smile as he feels the cool touch of lipstick on his cheek- decidedly not where lipstick goes.

“Would you still love me if I was a gromp?”

He exhales sharply in a sudden burst of giggles, his shoulders shaking. “What?”

“Hey, stay still! It’s a serious question.” She adjusts her hold on his jaw and begins drawing in a different spot.

“Okay, okay!” He thinks for a moment, smiling. “How big of a gromp?”

Her answer is instantaneous. “Really big. Big and fat.”

He matches her blunt energy. “Yeah, I’d still love you. I’d give you a big kiss on your nasty-ass gromp mouth.”

She throws her head back and laughs sharply. It dissolves into cute little giggles as she attempts to refocus.

“Okay, okay, what if I was a murkwolf-“

She finishes off his left cheek and re-centers his head, their eyes meeting for the first time since she decided to do his makeup.

He watches with a smile as she goes from still, to embarrassed, to positively flustered in the span of 5 seconds.

“Ugh, you’re such a sap.”

She attempts to sound annoyed as she turns away to organize her makeup and pastels, but he admires the shy curl of her lips and sees right through the facade.
