In college, Alison Mosshart was a big inspiration of mine.

I needed the tough girl persona. I wore a leather jacket and red lipstick.

All. The. Time. In Texas. In 90 degree weather.

Sometimes I think of her when I’m having a hard time and try to channel her energy. She’s inspiring to me because she’s tough, a little rough and still wildly creative and soft on the inside. There’s something about having a shell to protect yourself that can be very valuable and useful as an artist.

Been spending lots of time alone. Finally in hibernation mode.

For a bit there I was being overly social and exploratory- think I needed to shake things up. But I passed a threshold of it being healthy and in some way it became like any other vice. Keeping busy and forcing myself to be social was a way of blocking out a conversation I was trying to have with myself.

Be right back- staying up all night to talk to me.

These were taken the day of the Paris attacks- I had unintentionally sported my beret that day and no makeup. Eric and I had a talk about my hatred towards makeup and the pressure from my southern family to present myself a certain way. Eric was the first person to introduce me to the medium of photography. Admittedly, I was 18 and just felt pretty because someone wanted to snap my picture but my relationship with the camera has morphed and will probably continue to do so for as long as I create images and tell stories. I tell him often but I’m forever grateful for him having the balls to approach me and ask to take my photograph.
