H&M Is Changing the Sustainability Culture, 1 T-Shirt at a Time
All of the steps to how H&M’s Conscious Sweater is made. (Photos: Courtesy of H&M)
“Fast fashion can be both ethical and sustainable.” Can any fashion brand make such a statement, or is it just a big old oxymoron? And can you have both sustainability and style? Aside from Stella McCartney, of course. But how many of us can afford a wool jacket for $1,145?
The closest affordable brand that meets those criteria may surprise you: the Swedish giant H&M.
Since 1997, H&M’s commitment to sustainability and moving the fast-fashion market to a more ethical platform has been encouraging. But exactly how sustainable and ethical can a fast-fashion company be — and can all that be possible for $35?
Anna Gedda, head of sustainability at H&M, has mentioned many times in interviews that the only possible way to move the dial within the fast-fashion model is to close the loop, and for H&M, it focuses on eight steps to help make its circular approach effective: design, raw materials, fabric and yarn production, product manufacturing, transport, sales, and use. If all eight of these steps are consciously handled from the start to the end of the use cycle, then there is a chance for major companies to make a direct impact environmentally and ethically.
A quick search online will get you plenty of facts, figures, and charts on which fashion companies are the worst when it comes to “conscious” clothing. But H&M claims it is fully transparent with its sustainability program and with all its production. So we traced the origin of an H&M knitted sweater — namely, H&M Conscious Sweater With Shirt Collar ($35) — which is made in a factory in China and is currently in stores.
The first step of the design process to creating an H&M garment. (Photo: Courtesy of H&M)
At the Beginning — Design
Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative adviser and designer of special collections for H&M, tells Yahoo Style the aim is to create fashion without compromising on all the other qualities H&M customers expect from them. Choosing materials and fabrics that are less harmful to the environment — such as recycled polyester, recycled glass, recycled plastic, and organic hemp — is the first step in the sustainability loop.
The Raw Materials
In 2012, only 13 percent of all the cotton used in H&M garments were sustainable. By 2016, that figure had grown to 43 percent. H&M’s goal is for all the cotton used in its clothing to be 100 percent sustainable by 2020. By 2030, the company aims to have 100 percent of all its clothing come from recycled or other sustainably sourced materials. H&M does not have a direct relationship with mills, but working with organizations such as Natural Resources Defense Council has improved the company’s knowledge. Not taking responsibility for second-tier suppliers is no longer an option for the company.
How It’s Made
According to H&M, 70 percent of all its goods are sourced from China. For some, that may raise the question of whether the clothing was made in a sweatshop. Martha Lorentzon, H&M’s sustainability business expert, explains to Yahoo Style that H&M adheres to the Higg Index, a set of codes and conducts from the Sustainable Apparel Coalition to make sure the apparel and footwear industry is following correct procedures and acknowledging the environmental, social, and labor impacts of its products. Working closely with the Higg Index has meant factories that want a long relationship with H&M must follow these guidelines and Higg’s scoring system, and they must take responsibility for their workers and working conditions.
Fair Wages
H&M’s fair living-wage strategy includes collaboration projects with the U.N.’s International Labour Organization, nongovernment organizations, and trade unions. But working directly with owners of each factory to implement a fair wage program is where the real impact can happen. H&M’s Fair Wage system is about creating a dialogue between workers and employees, and has a trade union in place to speak on behalf of the workers. Trainings are also given to factory workers on workplace cooperation, negotiation skills, and knowing the law. For some workers, this could mean the simplest of things, such as knowing what their job description is, what a fair wage is for the work they do, and what benefits are they entitled to.
So far, 290 factories have enrolled in workplace dialogue and industrial relations programs. By 2018, H&M’s goal is to have an improved wage management system in place with its suppliers that make up 50 percent of its production.

Handled With Care
Fast fashion is often viewed as being of poor quality, and therefore these garments are seen as having a short shelf life. But that’s not always the case. Each H&M garment is handled by more than 30 pairs of hands, from the initial design down to individual quality control before being steamed, labeled, bagged, and shipped to stores. As the customers, we also need to do our part by prolonging the lifespan of our clothing and not getting rid of items simply because they’re no longer trendy.

The Final Stage
Once the product has been made, steamed, control-checked, and packed, a very small amount is shipped by air. More than 90 percent of H&M’s products are shipped by sea, which is the most carbon-efficient method of shipping; all major shipping lines are already converting to cleaner diesel fuels to reduce emissions.
Every garment is quality-checked and packed before being shipped. More than 90 percent of H&M’s products are shipped by sea. (Photos: Courtesy of H&M)
Buy, Sell, and Recycle
If you’ve worn your H&M sweater into the ground, don’t toss it. In 2013, H&M introduced a Garment Collection initiative in which unwanted garments — whether or not they’re H&M apparel — can be dropped off for recycling. Old garments are sorted and can be turned into other textile fibers or donated to other recycling projects. Considering that in the U.S., about 95 percent of clothing that is thrown away can be reworn or recycled, programs like this can make a big difference. Since H&M’s Garment Collection launch, 32,000 tons of clothing have been collected and given a new life. In 2016 alone, H&M stores worldwide collected more than 15,888 tons of discarded clothing. Their aim is to reach 25,000 tons by 2020.

Sergio Rossi Is Back and Never Looked More Desirable
Bella Hadid wearing Sergio Rossi shoes. (Photo: Getty Images)
If you love shoes — and who doesn’t? — then you may have noticed some fancy footwear being worn by celebrities from Mandy Moore to Bella Hadid, as well as countless fashion editors.
That would be the new look of Sergio Rossi — or the original Rossi, as I like to call it. Rossi initially created luxury shoes for women in the 1960s. In the past few years, the brand has been associated with stacked heels and shoes that are a little loud and definitely more for after-hours wear.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BSbhPvDFlja/?taken-by=sergiorossi&hl=en
This year, however, the brand decided on a fresh start, returning to its origins: to luxury, craftsmanship, and authenticity. Focusing on a more modern, practical — and dare I say, more elegant — style, the woman of the new Sergio Rossi is successful in her own right and not just by birthright.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BSObiCOhhzi/?taken-by=sergiorossi&hl=en
The Sergio Rossi customer has a true sense of style and can mix heels with silk pajamas while running errands.

Rather than focusing on trends each season, the brand wants to give its customer shoes that can be practical and yet still have an eye-catching design. The standout styles so far are the SR1 mules in 105mm in poppy red-and-white striped Portofino jacquard; SR1 sandals in 105 mm, which have a square toe and a contemporary heel that’s perfect for running around 24/7; and the SR1 pony leather loafer is anything but basic.

Jazz Up Your Hermès Scarf With ‘Hermèsmatic’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRpFJi9GH4c
Remember the time when you accidentally machine-washed your favorite dress or shirt and it came back a completely different shade? Well, the chic people at Hermès are playing with that concept to cleverly promote their new pop-up concept store.
In the video, a woman walks into the Hermèsmatic to wash her scarf, but this isn’t your everyday laundromat. The woman’s scarf goes from beige to a bright red — and she’s thrilled.
Hermès’ pop-up store is designed to breathe some new life (and fun) back into your classic silk scarves. The service allows customers to bring in their new or vintage silk scarves to be dip-dyed with their washing technique and voila! — a new scarf is born.
Hermèsmatic debuted in Paris, and then traveled to Geneva, Brussels, and Basel, Switzerland. The service is now available at Hermès stores in New York City, and will soon arrive in Washington, D.C., Nashville, and Los Angeles.

The New Denim Brand People of All Sizes Need to Know About
The Warp + Weft Plus JFK Skinny in Azure, $98. (Photo: Warp + Weft)
Did you know that 67% of women in the USA are size 14 and above? Did you know that clothing companies design the majority of their products for the size 2-8 market?
Meet Sarah Ahmed, the CEO and founder of Warp + Weft, the new jeans brand dedicated to serving the entire population — even that oft-ignored 67%. Ahmed grew up around fabrics, her family operated one of the largest textile mills one which was responsible for making much of the denim used to make the world’s most expensive jeans. With denim in her blood and that 67% on her mind, Ahmed realized that something was missing in the denim world: inclusive sizing. Why should women who are size 14 or above not be able to get their hands on good quality jeans, and why should jeans cost so much money?
After finishing her studies at Parsons the New School for Design, Ahmed decided to start a jeans collection with the promise of bringing a large range of sizes and fair pricing. Launched in May, Warp + Weft is a denim brand where every pair of jeans is under $100 and every fit goes up to size 24 for women and size 40 for men.
Warp + Weft CDG Cigarette in Sandrine, $98. (Photo: Warp + Weft)
The women’s collection has four different styles to choose from — skinny, bootcut, straight and shorts. The men’s collection boasts four styles as well — skinny, tailored, straight and slim. Prices start at $64 for the shorts and go up to $98 for the full-length pants.
Warp + Weft JFK Skinny in White, $98. (Photo: Warp + Weft)
With the size and price taken care of, the last most important thing was the fit — and Ahmed made sure the fit was right on target too. Warp + Weft uses a cotton wrapping technique that Ahmed’s family developed for premium quality fabrics. It has incredible retention and lift (no jean sag) and gives wearers a great fit. The cherry on top of all of this is that Ahmed’s family factory, based in Pakistan, is committed to sustainable practices in order to reduce production’s impact on the environment. Great fit, fair pricing, large sizing, and care for the planet? What more does one need?

How to ‘Bang’ the Perfect Distressed Hem According to an Expert!
yahoo
To continue all things denim, we at Yahoo Style are always on a quest for the perfect hemming tricks and where the best place to hem our favorite denim is. However, with Vetements’ uneven denim and Marques’ Almeida’s the-more-fray-the-better style, a raw and uneven hem is the only way to wear your jeans these days! So who better to seek hemming advice from than master tailor Dyuna, from Levi’s NYC store in the Meatpacking District? Being 5 feet 1, I have to get every pair of jeans I wear hemmed, so the Levi’s 501 Skinny is no different. The trick, according to Dyuna, is to “go about an inch above the ankle — this will fray up about 1/2 inch and the actual length will end up about 1.5 inches above the ankle.”

6 Crazy Denim Styles to Know About This Summer
Yahoo Style’s Denim Week revealed that Levi’s is the fashion industry’s favorite jeans brand and that even the ladies who lunch in Oscar de la Renta will want to be in jeans come next spring thanks to the high-end designer diving into denim for its 2018’s resort collection. So what else is new? How about the craziest denim styles you need to know about this summer?
These far out, fashion-forward styles might look a little strange, but with all high concept designs, it will trickle down in a few seasons and soon you too might be considering a pair of inside-out jeans or perhaps a pair of detachable denim.
After all, who doesn’t love the option of being able to rip off the bottoms of your jeans when the weather changes? From the most distressed to the most outrageous in price, here are the fashion-forward jeans trends worth watching.
Y/Project Detachable Cut-Out Side Jeans, $460, OpeningCeremony.com
Y/Project is one of the cool kids in Paris so expect nothing less than a dose of French avant-garde when it comes to jeans this summer. These 1/3 jeans, 1/3 cut-offs, and 1/3 leg warmers combo might be a little strange looking, but with the right accessories and some attitude, these could be a winner.
Citizens of Humanity Estella Side Ruffle Jeans, $328, Shopbop.com
Citizens of Humanity is a favorite with the fashion crowd, and these side ruffles are definite social media click bait. They’re a must for any influencer who wants to give her fans what they need: some ruffle-mania.
Faustine Steinmetz Cut-Out Cropped Jeans, $751, Brownsfashion.com
Faustine Steinmetz‘s trademark is the ultra distressed denim, which put the French-born designer on the fashion map. Denim in mellow yellow with a slash around the waist is tame for Steinmetz, but these are definitely not the faint-of-heart.
Ben Taverniti Unravel Project Inside-Out Crop Jeans, $975, Barneys.com
Fancy a new style and not sure which direction to take? Take a cue from the Kardashians‘s go-to pants designer and just turn yours inside-out — and boom, a new style! And probably a lot less than $975, too.
Vetements X Levis Distressed Zip-Detailed High Rise Straight Leg Jeans, $1,715, www.Net-a-Porter.com
Vetements is the brand that started the uneven hem craze from a few seasons ago. They’ve now teamed up with Levi’s to create a pair of black zip jeans that completely open up to let you show some leg.
Vetements X Levis Distressed Denim Shorts, $1,000, www.Net-a-Porter.com
And if the full pair is not to your style or taste, Vetements X Levis has a shorts version with a zipper that unzips the entire pair in half!

Priyanka Chopra, Yara Shahidi, Wiz Khalifa, and Friends Star in New Gap Video
yahoo
Gap, the iconic American brand, might be on its way back to being the go-to clothing line for denim, khakis, and white T-shirts. The brand released a new short video — directed by fashion veteran and the new editor in chief of British Vogue, Edward Enninful — celebrating American optimism.
For the video, Enninful, a stylist who has always pushed for more diversity in the fashion industry, selected a group of individuals whom he has worked with, championed, and admired — people he feels embody American culture today.
“I love the optimistic American style that Gap celebrates and the simplicity of the basic white T-shirt that allows you to be yourself,” Enninful said in a statement. “Growing up, I loved the imagery I saw from America, as it celebrated being the land of the free and home of the brave. This project is about authenticity and people living their truths.”
The cast includes actress Prinyanka Chopra, rapper Wiz Khalifa, model Christie Brinkley, actress Yara Shahidi, as well as model-activists Adwoa Aboah, Maria Borges, Alek Wek, and many more. The infectious video has the cast singing along to Boney M’s “Sunny” and busting their own moves while dressed in a classic Gap white T-shirt and denim.
When asked what gap she would like to see filled, Chopra said in a statement: “The most important one for me is empowering women. Women need to be given an opportunity to stand on their feet and do the best they can for themselves.”

Superstar DJ Mark Ronson on Speedos, Fiona Apple, Lexus, and Men’s Style
Mark Ronson posing with the new Lexus LC 500h. (Photo: Courtesy of Lexus)
Good music and a hot car sounds like the ultimate road trip, no? Add some great luggage, and we’re all set. So what happens when Lexus launches its LC Coupé on the hedonistic island of Ibiza and gets favorite DJ of celebrities and fashionistas, Mark Ronson, to collaborate on some unique sounds for the guests? A good time, of course.
The Lexus “Make Your Mark” collaboration is all about the experience you get when you’re in the new car — which does feel like you’re sitting inside an Hermès bag because it’s so luxe.
We caught up with Ronson about his favorite summer tunes when he’s on the road and what his no-no’s are when it comes to men’s style.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BUIAAeeBgF3/?taken-by=iammarkronson&hl=en
Yahoo Style: What is your go-to look when you are performing onstage or DJ’ing?
Mark Ronson: There is a different vibe when I am DJ’ing to playing music live. Because I came up DJ’ing in hip-hop clubs, there is something that feels a little ridiculous to me about DJ’ing in a suit unless I am at some fancy event when I have to dress up. I always feel like if I am not dressed slightly B-Boyish, it feels weird, especially if I am scratching; it feels weird in a designer suit that is a little tight. It changes the mood, and you want people to get crazy and have a good time. I love the way the people from the ’70s [dress], like Grandmaster Flash in his Adidas jumpsuit, and I usually have a bit of a modern take on that. When I am playing guitar, it’s slightly different. When we are on tour, there are so many musicians onstage you want everybody to have a bit of a uniform vision, whether it’s a pastel T-shirt under a suit. I did a couple of performances with Lady Gaga when she was launching her last record. For her, I felt I needed to dress it up a little because she is in some amazing rhinestone number. I mean, I am never going to be up to her level, but I try a little so I don’t make her look bad. So there’s a couple more sequins in there.
What are the top three songs you cannot do any long journeys without?
I would say Stevie Wonder’s “Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You),” something from Tame Impala, maybe from their second album, “Apocalypse Dreams” — that is a good driving song. And “Go With the Flow” from Queens of the Stone Age. You sort of want something that is, like, soothing and warm.
What is the guilty-pleasure song you play in the car when no one else can hear you?
Hmm … I wouldn’t say it was guilty because it’s actually an amazing album, but the second Fiona Apple album that came out about 15 years ago. The songs are obviously written from the point of view of a very angry woman about breakups, and they are such clever songs because the lyrics are so biting. But to see two dudes in a car on a road trip singing these songs at top of our lungs must be quite funny. Me and my friend were singing these hard-core estrogen anthems on our road trip to Vegas out of the window. It’s amusing to sing it out loud, and I know all the words to the second Fiona Apple album!
What do you think will be the summer tune of 2017?
I don’t really know because I haven’t been listening to so much new stuff, and as far as house and dance music, those are the genres I am not so up-to-date on at the moment. I am working on a bunch of new stuff that I am super-super-excited about, and I am not being coy or annoying about who I am working with, but I just don’t want to jinx it. But I am excited to be able to play that for the first time. I need to get my mind together and start prepping for the festivals and music I am going to be playing. I have to sometimes construct the set in my head because I play music that ranges — it’s not just one tempo, I have to figure out my transition and my arc, and I have to be aware of who I play after. I spend weeks preparing for the summer shows.
What in your opinion are fashion no-no’s for men in the summer?
It’s hard because every culture is different. I wouldn’t necessarily wear Speedos, but when you see a bunch of Italian men on the beach, it kind of looks normal. It’s just not for me! Also when you are in the airport in security and you see people already in flip-flops and shorts, I’m always like, “Hang on, mate, you’re not on holiday yet! You have a nine-hour flight!” I live in Cali now, so I am also becoming a little more forgiving about a few things than before.

Valentino and All the Best Looks From the Resort 2018 Shows So Far
Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Valentino 2018 Resort show in New York yesterday gave us all renewed energy for designers doing streetwear. A silk green tracksuit is the only thing we want to wear while traveling while pink and red track pants paired with a fur coat is the Sunday morning outfit of our dreams — and so are practically all of the looks that Piccioli sent down the runway.
Inspired by the New York hip-hop scene and working with Zandra Rhodes on some of the prints, the Valentino show had something for everyone.
As for the other resort shows that have happened so far? The circuit reads more like the latest copy of Conde Nast Traveller with Chanel’s Greek Revival in the Grand Palais in Paris, followed by Prada in Milan, Dior’s extravaganza in the Calabasas, Calif., desert, and Louis Vuitton in Kyoto, Japan. So what of the fashion? Here are the best of the best from all of the collections so far.

5 Books To Know About this Summer
Day 3 of Power Styles for the Summer and we already have you covered for sunglasses, swimwear, sandals and what summer staples to invest in. We now bring you the summer reads to know about so you can start planning your book club schedule. From murder mysteries to backstabbing family members, the summer beach reads this season is more than just a pretty cover. They also transform us to the locations they are set in. After you are done with these wonder works of fiction, lets talk about taking that trip to Patmos, the English countryside, Singapore and maybe even finding that remote island off the Palawan Coast in Philippines! Or we can just make do with the detailed descriptions of each place from the following books?! Keep calm and carry on reading.
The Destroyer by Christopher Bollen (photo: courtesy of Harper Collins)
The Destroyers by Christopher Bollen
A murder mystery set on the glamorous island of Patmos in Greece between 2 best friends who grew up in New York. Christoper Bollen (Orient and Lighting People) takes us on an very sophisticated and stylish journey with these characters and describes the island with a dreamy ease and insider anecdotes that you sort of feel you know this island by the time you are finished with the book. This novel is the perfect beach read, Bollen’s writing is sharp, the story is exciting and keeps you wanting to know what game is being played and who is masterminding it all? The Destroyer out June 27th from Harper Collins
Party Girls Die in Pearls: An Oxford Girl Mystery by Plum Sykes (photo courtesy of Harper Collins)
Party Girls Die in Pearls: An Oxford Girl Mystery by Plum Sykes
This summer, Plum Sykes’ (Bergdorf Blondes and Debutant Divorcée) latest book takes us back to 1985, the height of big hair sprayed hair and girls still in pearls attending balls! Set in Oxford University where the new girl discovers a dead body and with the help of an American student sets out to solve this case. Sykes gives us a first hand insider look into this college or uni as we like to call it and all its strange and old traditions it still upholds. Another murder mystery but funnier than the usual Agatha Christie. Plum Sykes in the fashion world need no introduction. She was THE IT girl from London living in NY and working at Vogue. Her writing always had this underlying sense of ‘is she piss taking or is she being series?’ She has a way of making fun of her world but yet reporting on it with such accuracy. Party Girls Die in Pearls is out May 9 from Harper Collins
Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan
Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan
The last of the Crazy Rich Asian trilogy, Rich People Problems finally tells us what happens to Tyresell Park, who Astrid marries and how much are the Sheungs and the Youngs really worth?! As always, set predominately in Singapore with some side trips to Rajasthan, Laos and some remote island off the Palawan coast in Philippines, this last book is still ridiculous and still funny. Kevin Kwan obviously knows this world well and how silly the wealth really are in the Far East, not to mention the jealously, backstabbing and family feuds. A total guilty pleasure and a beach read special! Hardcover out May 23 on Amazon.com
Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka ((photo courtesy of Simon & Schuster))
Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka
Set in a sleepy suburb of Colorado, a high school girl’s dead body is discovered and 3 main characters emerge. Slowly accusations spread and the unsettling eeriness of who done it in this small suburban town slowly reveals each person’s inner lives. A debut novel by Tanya Kukafka, this book is promising to be the IT ‘girl’ book of the year! Girl in Snow is out August 1 from Simon and Schuster
Into the Water by Paula Hawkins (photoL courtesy of Penguin Random House)
Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
How does one follow up a novel that sold 18M copies worldwide and got made into a Hollywood movie? Write another knicker gripper and set it in a quaint English countryside of Beckford. Into the Water is an addictive psychological suspense thriller that will make you want to go to Beckford and take a good look at that river to see what the fuss is about! Out May 2 On Amazon.com

Warby Parker's New Collaboration Brings Sunglasses With a Higher Cause
Warby Parker X Robert Rauschenberg Collaboration Sunglasses Collection (Photo: Courtesy of Warby Parker)
“Art can change the world” was a philosophy the late great American artist Robert Rauschenberg believed in. The socially-conscious eyewear brand Warby Parker, meanwhile, believes that creative problem solving drives social change and improves the livelihood of individuals and communities. Now these two principles are joining forces to make a difference, one pair of shades at a time.
‘Primrose Crystal’ from Warby Parker X Robert Rauschenberg Collaboration Sunglasses Collection (Photo: Courtesy of Warby Parker)
This month, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation has teamed up with Warby Parker to create a limited-edition collection of sunglasses to celebrate the Museum of Modern Art’s upcoming exhibition on the artist: “Robert Rauschenberg: Among Friends.” As a part of the deal, the glasses company has made a donation to the artist’s legacy grant program, which provides fellowships, travel, and research stipends to artists and organizations of all disciplines addressing global challenges through creative work.
Ruby, the MoMA Exclusive from Warby Parker X Robert Rauschenberg Collaboration Sunglasses Collection (Photo: Courtesy of Warby Parker)
The glasses themselves, each inspired by the works of Robert Rauschenberg, are crafted in a limited-edition range of four dual colors. Bright crystal hues make them fun and colorful, while the $95 can be well justified — as it goes not only towards a great cause but, as always with Warby Parker, gets a pair to someone in need for every pair sold.
The collection is available on May 18 through MoMA Design and Warby Parker.

The Ultimate Swimsuits for the 5 Most Common Body Shapes
The time has come to utter that word so many women fear every year — swimwear! Ready or not, summer is on its way, and if you’re finally ready to get rid of that stretched-out one-piece you got five years ago, we have you covered.
Thanks to the body positive movement, this is the time to flaunt what you’ve got! To take out the anxiety and guesswork, we’ve rounded up the best swimwear to flatter your body shape — whether you’re hourglass, apple (fuller in the middle), triangle (fuller on the bottom), busty, or athletic.
We enlisted the help of three experts who shop and design swimwear for a living and know what works best for each body type. Natalie Kingham, buying director at MatchesFashion, tells Yahoo Style, “It is important when buying swimwear that you feel comfortable and confident. I always buy something that I know works well with my body shape, and it isn’t always a bikini. One-pieces are becoming more popular, as they offer a sleek, sexy look to suit all body shapes and can give structure and confidence to women who are self-conscious of their stomachs or rears.”
No doubt the swim brand du jour this summer is Solid and Striped — just check out what every supermodel was posting on their Instagram recently and you will understand the impact it had on our feeds. Solid and Striped’s design director, Michelle Copelman, reminds us “dressing for your body type is key, especially when swimsuit shopping. When buying swimwear it comes down to what you feel comfortable in, and of course knowing your body. If you’re comfortable in something, it will translate to confidence, and you will look great lounging at the pool or beach all summer.”
Along with trying to find the right suit that fits our shape, the cost factor also seems to get in the way. But fear not, we have you covered on that front, too. Linda Chang, vice president of merchandising at Forever 21, advises: “Shopping for a swimsuit can be both an exciting and a daunting task. Look for something that enhances your figure. It is also important to pick a store or online retailer where you will have access to a wide variety of styles and find a number of suits you love and work well for you. At Forever 21, whether you’re athletic, have an hourglass figure, or are curvy and full-figured, we have swimsuits to help you accentuate your best assets and feel confident in.”
Between the high-end swimwear carried at MatchesFashion and the more budget-conscious ones from Forever 21, we’re positive you’ll find a swimsuit that suits your body!

Triangle
Natalie Kingham, buying director at MatchesFashion.com “Matteau has a great collection of simple, elegant pieces, which you can mix and match to find the right briefs for your shape. The high waist bikini briefs are perfect for those with a more triangular body, with the ultra-flattering cut, seamless construction, and super-chic color palette.”

Linda Chang, vice president of merchandising at Forever 21 “Look for low necklines and halter suits that tie at the neck to draw the eye upwards. Bikini bottoms with add-ons like ruffles or ties will even out broader-set shoulders.” Forever 21 Textured Ruffle Low Rise Bikini, $4 for top and $4 for bottom, forever21.com

Busty
Linda Chang, vice president of merchandising at Forever 21 “Thicker bathing suit straps and double-stitched bands will give you the most flattering result. Go for simple and sleek designs and avoid embellishments or ruffles, as this will make your bust appear bigger. Styles featuring peplum or frill at the hips are a great option as it will balance out the volume on top and create the illusion of a smaller waistline.”

How to Shade Like a Pro This Summer
The MIDO Eyewear Show in Milan is the world’s largest optical and sunglass exhibition showcasing the best of Italian-made eyewear. The president of MIDO, Cirillo Marcolin — whose namesake company, Marcolin, is one of the world’s leading eyewear groups — underscores the term “Made in Italy” and its reputation for excellence.
MIDO is where international players, small artisans, avant-garde companies, and young designers come together to talk about eyewear, discuss new technology and research, and find out about market trends. And clearly, Americans favor European style: In 2016, U.S. consumers bought more than 30 percent of the sunglasses exported from Europe. Now that’s a lot of shade to throw around!
So here are the 5 hottest sunglass trends for this summer. Be warned — they’re colorful and bold!

Unusual animal shapes work well on a lot of accessories, but on sunglasses they pack a punch à la Thom Browne’s whale- and fish-shaped frames. Throw in Pucci’s Bladerunneresque shade and Louis Vuitton’s sci-fi metallic frames, and the future looks bright!

The ’90s were all about colored frames, and the love affair with color is back this summer. Rihanna Schools Us In How To Wear Turquoise Jewelry
All eyes were on Rhianna and her deluxe fur coat at the Dior Sauvage Cruise 2018 show in LA last night.
And yes, the singer owned the night — in particular, with her turquoise jewelry. Her oversized rings and bracelets accented her controversial fur coat, and fit right in with the dessert setting. It takes style skill to stand out among 800 guests, including celebs Charlize Theron, Brie Larson and Kiernan Shipka. We bow down.
If you’re inspired by Rihanna, go forth and shop her look — or rather, emulate it — with some key turquoise pieces. The trick here is to pile them on, the more the better.

'Smoking Weed in Couture' Is Vibe of New High-End Collaboration

Creatures of the Wind is one of those rare fashion labels that is able to be super luxe and high fashion but still has that edgy and indie vibe to it. This is very much the aesthetic of its designers Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters — downtown meets high-end — and, fittingly, their Pre-fall 2017 collection features pieces embroidered with images of weed.
When System Magazine founders Alexia Niedzielski and Elizabeth von Guttman got a whiff of the creations, they requested a special collection be created in tandem with their recent 4/20 “Weed” issue. And the resulting pieces, Niedzielski says, “perfectly captured our approach of smoking weed in couture!”

The collaboration includes four styles — a parka ($2500), a fur coat (made to order), sweaters ($150), and T-shirts (starting at $135) — with hand-drawn embroideries.

Creatures of the Wind’s Chris Peters says of the collaboration: “Marijuana has historically been a symbol of freedom, creativity, and acceptance; it’s been great working with System Magazine, a true champions of these ideals.”
The collection launches May 12th at justoneye.com and farfetch.com.
