So I really like Class (that random spin off from 2016 that tried to be edgy and teenagery)
I was the perfect age when I watched it, which probably helped a lot, but it has some pretty nice character work and I was definitely invested in the characters.
But the thing that I really noticed was how not doctor who it was. The monsters/aliens that they fight are much more fantasy than sci-fi (I know doctor who has plenty more fantasy episodes, but things like the shadow kin just feel much closer to monsters in fantasy books than aliens from doctor who). The whole tone and worldbuilding really feels different to doctor who (even though 12 appears!), and I think this makes it struggle as a doctor who spin off.
Basically I really like Class but not as a doctor who spin off.

YES I love this story
The concept is cool and the whole thing has an interesting message that is so much more complex than you'd expect from something called Invasion of the Dinosaurs
Going to watch the Invasion of Dinosaurs tonighttt. Hello again to the third doctor

Some Lon Appreciation
Lon is this guy from snakedance:
His energy makes me unreasonably happy. I would hate him in real life but his entitled teenager attitude just gives me SO MUCH JOY.

I think in planet of the spiders three knew he was regenerating so he just needed to complete his pre-regeneration bucket list:
Gyrocopter
Fly the whomobile
Hovercraft on land and on water and on a person
I hope Pertwee enjoyed driving this fun assortment of vehicles

10,000 frozen daleks
Sounds like a sequel is required...
Galactic Gazetteer: Spiridon
AKA: Zaleria
Type: earthlike planet
Location: the Ninth System, outer rim of Mutter's Spiral
Terrain: jungle, plains
Inhabitants: Spiridons, Daleks
Affiliation: Dalek Empire, 26th century
Flora: eye-plants, fungoids
Visited by: the Third Doctor and Jo
Appearance: Planet of the Daleks (1973)
Fun fact: the native Spiridons have the power of invisibility, which the Daleks attempted to harness.
Another fun fact: Spiridon has a core of "molten ice" which erupts through "icecanoes" and bubbles up into freezing pools.
Fun fact 3: an army of 10,000 Daleks was left frozen on the planet.

Somewhere in a Quaint British Village...
The doctor adjusts to his new tastebuds, messes up someone's childhood, outsmarts all the important smart people in the world, saves the world without his sonic screwdriver and discovers three seasons worth of universe-threatening plot arc all before he can find a change of clothes.

Somewhere in a British Country House...
Jo's scientific education continues with the Blinovitch Limitation Effect, the Brigadier's attempt to find the Doctor and Jo are made far more difficult by their time travel shenanigans and a two century long self-fulfilling prophecy turned temporal paradox almost destroys most of the world.
Meanwhile the daleks have been upgraded to COLOUR!

Things the Brigadier can believe:
Random man with two hearts is in fact the doctor who has entirely changed how he looks.
Said doctor can travel in space and time in a telephone box.
Plastic mannequins are being controlled by an alien intelligence and attempting to destroy the human population.
The loch ness monster is in fact a creature brought to earth by shape shifting aliens.
Things the Brigadier cannot believe:
He was drugged and consequently fell asleep on duty.

Possibly the most high stakes game of charades is played, far more secrets are unveiled than anyone intended and a certain Donna Noble inadvertently secures her place in literary history.

Dodgy vicar creates a cult to re-awaken ancient daemon (pronounced d-ay-mon of course, this is the BBC in the '70s...), shenanigans occur with a maypole and a gargoyle.
Meanwhile the the weather takes 'British Spring' to a new level.
We ask local residents to be on the look out for a commandeered helicopter. Also missing staff (look for the man in fancy dress)

Bizarre watching order part two: Classic Who Boogaloo.
WELCOME TO PART TWO OF THE RAMBLE:
It actually took me ages to get to classic who...
I decided November 2023 would be the time because it now did not require any purchase of blue-rays (in the UK. sorry rest of the world)
So my idiot self decided 'i Know i Will Start With the First Episode' and was hit with CLASSIC WHO PACING BLACK AND WHITE THE SETS ARE WOBBLING and could not get into it.
But then..... but then.....
I had a good idea :)
I watched season 7 WITH COLOUR:
It's six months later, I am now watching series 21 and Pertwee has become one of my favourite doctors.
I will go back to watch seasons 1-6 after I have finished season 26 and hopefully I will enjoy them now I have got used to Classic who pacing and the delightful special effects.

So the whole series 11 attempting to get new viewers thing actually kind of worked for me....
Welcome to this ramble about how I got into doctor who.
Actual first episode: I don’t know. Something from the latter half of series 2. I was a young baby and asleep in the room with the TV. My parents opted not to move me, so I was present for the doctor who episode. Unfortunately no-one can remember which episode it was.
First episode I was actually awake and not a baby for: Someone showed me blink at an age where I was not quite mentally able to cope. I became deeply uncomfortable with a stone statue near my grandparent’s house.
Real proper first episode (I promise this time): Twice Upon a Time (it was Christmas, it was on in the house and I was curious). I was very confused.
Anyway I started watching casually for series 11 because it was on in the house (it is always on in the house) and because it didn’t really refer to anything from the previous series I understood and enjoyed it enough to watch series 12 the next year.
TLDR for the rest: Shenanigans occur wherein after series 12 I watched series 10, then series 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and finally series 1, 2, 3 and 4 before series 13 came out.
And then the master turned up. And I Very Much Enjoyed this character. And then Fugitive of the Judoon happened. And I needed to know, needed theories, and then the Timeless Children happened (I didn't really know enough to have much of a view at the time) and my brain needed all the knowledge and thus the sPeCiAl InTeReSt began.....
So upon seeing the approximately wow so many series, I decided to go backwards through the series. I watched season 10 and immediately went: WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CINEMATIC PRESENTATION FROM BEFORE?
Except for that, I very much enjoyed it and the special interest INTENSIFIED.
To cut a long story short I realised I could not watch series 9 next and in fact I had to go to series 5 but oh no a pandemic I had A LOT of time to watch doctor who.
So watching series 8 I was confused about why no-one recognised Missy (had already watched series 10) and watching series 5, 6 and 7 I had the distinct feeling I'd missed something with River Song (hadn't watched series 4).
But my bizarre watching order somehow worked and now I feel the need to insert doctor who into a least one conversation per day.
In summary, I watched 'nuwho' (2005-2022) as such:
Series 11
Series 12
Series 10
Series 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Series 1, 2, 3, 4
Series 13
This post is extremely long the classic who ramble will go in another post.

Somewhere in the Quaint British Countryside...
In an attempt to avoid killing some people, man invents a new persona, forces friend to be a maid in 1913, has to destroy the persona and traps the people he didn't want to kill in everlasting torment.
Also raises some fascinating moral quandaries and some terrifying scarecrows.

Somewhere possibly in the British Countryside...
A business owner has a toxic business adviser who later leads some smartly dressed plastic on what looks like a very strange school trip/journey to on location filming.
If you are in possession of a daffodil handed to you by plastic people, please get rid of it. Now. Even if it's pretty.

They both give excellent doctor speeches too
Watching the third doctor era again really has made me realise how similar three and twelve actually are. Both just have a certain majestic flare about them and both very loveable grandpas lol 💜
