This is going to be controversial, but I think that this is why autism and ADHD are becoming more popular on social media lately. Every symptom that people often talk about or joke about are things that all people can relate to. Forgetting things, being socially awkward, fidgeting, obsessing over something, all of these are things that people, ND or NT, do to some extent and it’s extremely relatable when you see a post exaggerating it.
However, ND people experience these things due to disorder in their cognition that is perpetual and can lead to a decrease in their ability to live fully.
It’s not ND if you fidget when bored, it’s ND if you fidget because that’s the only thing that can help you regulate yourself to function while doing simple tasks.
It’s not ND to forget things, it’s ND when you forget things so often that the people around you are concerned and you often find it difficult to hold a job because you can’t hold onto information long enough to be reliable in important situations.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s good that people are more aware and it’s good that more people are tested and given the appropriate help that they need. But I’m tired of people telling me that sleeping in a certain position is a sign of autism (ie broken arm syndrome on TT)
Irritates the hell out of me when people respond to a post or comment like, "everyone does this, it's not just [disorder/illness/neurotype], it's called being a person."
Yeah and everyone coughs once in a while but it doesn't mean someone with pneumonia doesn't cough?? It doesn't mean pneumonia doesn't cause coughing??
Everyone gets dizzy once in a while but it doesn't mean vertigo doesn't exist??
Just about every symptom or group-common trait is going to be experienced by people who don't belong to those groups or have that disorder. It's about the frequency and intensity with which that symptom or trait comes up.

collection of useful things tumblr has taught me:
even if you can't fall asleep, laying down with your eyes closed will still rest your body
you don't have to brush your teeth standing up
you don't have to do any chore standing up, from dishes to showering
you don't have to shower with the lights on
if you can't brush your teeth, flossing and a tongue scraper gets rid of plaque and bad breath
if you can't do that, mouthwash kills a lot of bacteria
eating "unhealthy" food is better than eating no food
you can make the same meal everyday for however long you still want it
some pills come in syrups or chewables if you can't swallow them
kids nutritional shakes can be a quick way to get fuel if you can't eat/don't have time
if walking hurts/exhausts you on a regular basis, canes and rollers are for you, no matter how young you are
we have free will—if doing something "out of the ordinary" makes life easier for you, do it
