MY FINAL PROJECT: Build a loft for the 3rd grade classroom at the JCDS!
I got in touch with the Jewish Community Day School to see if there were any projects that I could help out with. They suggested I help build a loft for the 3rd graders who’ve been wanting to revamp their current reading room/grow space with the help of a loft!
In only two weeks, Alina and I were able to design the loft, buy the materials, cut the pieces and build the ladder, and assemble the loft in the space (all of which also included getting stranded at Home Depot when our 2 pieces of plywood didn’t fit in our car!). Thanks to Alex and Matt Lo and Brendan Rose for helping out with the assembly and I’ll be posting the finished loft later this evening!

Our masterpiece is complete! After a month+ of ideating, modeling, planning, drawing, tracing, sawing, drilling, and doweling we are finished with our parametric chair. Feels so good to be sitting in it after such a long time! Maybe someday it’ll have a partner, but for now we’re gonna enjoy the one we have!
Materials:
- 3/4 inch plywood
- 1′ dowels
- -wood glue
- nail gun
Thanks to Mikaela, Hannah, and Alina for collaborating on this beautiful chair with me! You guys made this process so much fun and I’m so proud of the final product!

So close to being done with the chair!!! We’ve cut all our pieces, sanded everything down, and now all that’s left to do is drill some holes for the dowels and stick it all together!

WE’RE ON A ROLE! We’ve cut and traced all of our pieces out onto our pieces of plywood and we’re on our way to makin our chair! We’re all on our way to being jig saw wizards by the end of this assignment.

After tons of ideating, model making and repeating (these pictures are just a fraction of all the models we made!) we’ve finally decided on our final design- a chair that has undulating top pieces that follow a wave-like form connected by flush pieces that will also be changing ever so slightly in a wave pattern. Time now to finally start building!

Wooh! It’s been a little while since I last posted but boy has it been busy. We’re well into the furniture project and have done a lot of stuff since then. My group has decided to make a parametric chair inspired by some of these pictures we found online. Our original idea was to make a little “reading nook” that people could crawl into but we’ve pivoted in a different direction towards making a chair.

So funny shenanigans we got into while playing our game! You have to do challenges (like pretend to hoola hoop for 30 seconds) to earn “power points” which you can then cash in to defeat monsters!

Today we went to the JCDSRI to play our super hero game with a bunch of amazing 5th graders!! We had so much fun playing the game with them for the first time, and I was blow away by how great their insights were into how we could improve the game! Can’t wait to come back next week with a new and improved design and see what they think!

After about 60+ hours of work, we’ve finally finished our first design project “La Marionette Sans Fil” or the “Marionette Without Strings”-- a puppet controlled by a bluetooth glove made out of flex sensors. Couldn’t have happened without an amazing team-- thanks Dan, Dmitrjs, Manny, Reid, and Geoffrey for all the hard work!
