Private Eyes [S.H.]
Pairing: Steve Harrington x fem!Reader, platonic Robin x Reader & Robin x Steve Word Count: 2.1k Summary: You get a little protective (not jealous) when one of King Steve's old friends keeps coming around Family Video. Warnings/Notes: SFW. Minor confrontation. Fluffy. Sugary sweet actually. Reader is a little shy. Robin and reader are both protective of their boy. 😊 There are no mentions of reader's physical features. No spoilers. Requested.
You were passing a stack of VHS tapes across the counter to a customer when the bell on top of the door rang, signaling that someone new was coming in.
“Welcome to Family Video!” Robin called out, her voice raising in your direction before she sidled up next to you and gently elbowed you in the side.” She whispered in your ear. “She’s back.”
By the time your customer left and you were able to look toward the door, Nicole had already made her way over to Steve. He was restocking while you were on counter duty and Robin was helping customers on the floor. It was a straight shot from the door to Steve before either of you could intervene.
Or even try to.
Nicole was quick.
“Shit. Should’ve let him have the counter.”
“You lost rock, paper, scissors,” Robin reminded you.
“How many times this week has she been in again?”
Robin lifted three fingers before heading over to the customer who walked in after the redhead in question while you moved across the counter to try to hear Steve’s conversation.
You didn’t make it a habit of listening in on everyone’s conversation on a regular basis, but you were unsure about the woman.
You were being a good friend by eavesdropping, you assured yourself.
A protective friend.
If it was anyone else, you would have tried to ignore it. It was just that Nicole was friends with Tommy and Carol and King Steve back in high school and she had been coming around the last few weeks to do this odd flirty thing with him. That entire group had dropped Steve during junior year, or rather he had dropped them and they had taken to treating him like the scum of the earth in return, and she suddenly showed up two years later like everything was hunky-dory?
Not on your watch.
Well, not on Robin’s watch.
Your other co-worker/friend was the one who originally brought your attention to the entire situation because, frankly, watching Steve flirt with every female who came into Family Video had gotten old real fast. You now had a new found talent for ignoring his voice whenever a girl was attached to his side.
It was torture to hear him make other girls laugh the same way he made you laugh, sometimes with the exact jokes he’d told you a few hours before. Even when they left without accepting a date with him, you couldn’t deny the sting of feeling like you were a Guinea pig for his flirting.
When did you become enamored with Steve Harrington? You weren’t sure. The day you met as adults outside of high school? That was the day you discovered he was nothing like his high school persona had led you to believe.
But you weren’t jealous.
There was just something downright suspicious about Nicole.
She seemed nice on the surface, but she still possessed the same judgmental look in her eyes that she had in high school. Usually that was toward you and Robin whereas she was all sugary sweet with Steve.
You were both wary of her intentions.
“We’re going to go to Indianapolis for the holiday and Tommy booked the nicest hotel they have. Two rooms. I really don’t want to stay by myself in, you know, a big city.” The pout on her lips could practically be heard. “Why don’t you come with us, Steve?”
Robin’s head snapped up and she met your eyes across the store. Her blue eyes wide with a blend of amusement and disgust on her face.
Nicole was good.
“Gross,” she mouthed before moving her hands toward you in a shooing motion.
You sighed heavily and left your post to walk closer to Steve and his ex-friend, stopping at a perfectly organized display in an attempt to look discreet as you closed in on them.
“Yeah, I mean, Indianapolis sounds like a cool getaway for the weekend, but you see -“
Steve raised a hand to the back of his neck.
“Are you always so busy, Stevie?”
Stevie?
Robin audibly gagged, but you ignored her in lieu of approaching the pair.
“Um, Steve?” You cringed at the level of your voice. Far too quiet for a simple coworker exchange. Clearing your throat, you tried again. “Can you help me in the back?”
“We’re making plans for the weekend.” Nicole sneered.
“Actually, Nicole,” he started, but you couldn’t take it any longer. At this rate, Robin wouldn’t be the only one to get violently ill on the already filthy Family Video carpet if Steve actually accepted Nicole’s offer of a weekend getaway.
You’d all be fired if that happened, so, really, you were saving your jobs by interfering.
“Steve,” you repeated, voice firm.
He met your eyes over Nicole’s shoulder.
“Yeah?”
“The back? I need help. New, uh, new shipment.”
He clearly didn’t believe it, his face twisting in confusion, but he stepped around Nicole anyway, coming to a stop in front of you. You inwardly relaxed at having his attention away from Nicole.
Okay, maybe you were a little jealous.
“We got a shipment yesterday. You did the inventory.”
Lying was clearly not your strong suit or maybe it was just hard to lie to Steve.
You stalled.
Your silence was long enough for Nicole to step forward and grab his arm with both hands, sending him the most perfected set of puppy dog eyes you’d ever seen. Thankfully he was still looking at you in confusion and missed them.
“Since you clearly can’t do your job and don’t need his help, we have plans to make.”
At the sound of her voice, Steve’s head snapped in Nicole’s direction.
“That’s not true.” He pulled his arm out of her grasp and took a step away from her to stand next to you. “She’d be employee of the month all the time if Keith didn’t just give it to himself.”
The confidence in his voice faded off near the end of his statement, but you still felt yourself flush at his words. It was always nice to be on the receiving end of Steve’s appreciation. It gave you a reason to believe, even if it was unlikely to be true, that he returned some of your feelings.
Steve sighed and brought a hand up to rub between his eyebrows.
You watched on as he spoke to the other woman.
“By the way, I’ve been trying to be cool with you coming here, but I wasn’t making plans with you. I have no interest in going to Indianapolis with you or spending any of my time around Tommy or Carol.”
It was Nicole’s turn to flush at Steve’s words, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink. She rolled her eyes and it was obvious by the way she couldn’t actually make eye contact with him anymore that she was trying to save face.
“Bite me.” She gritted out the words.
“Hey! I don’t think you should come here anymore.”
Steve’s hands were on his hips and you had to stifle a laugh at the scene in front of you. You truly hadn’t meant to start that, but you couldn’t deny that you were relieved.
Nicole stomped toward the door as you both turned to watch her retreat.
“Ding-dong! The witch is dead!” Robin sang out once the door was firmly shut and the redhead made it to her car.
“Rob!” You halfheartedly tried to chastise her, but it fell flat when you let out a soft laugh.
“What?”
“Hanging out with Tommy and Carol when they’re constantly all over each other probably gets annoying and lonely.” You tried.
“She’s always been a little in love with both of them,” Steve said behind you and you turned to see his unbothered shrug.
He moved over to the counter without another word and busied himself by working on a stack of movies that had been returned earlier in the day, popping one out of its case and checking if it was rewound all the way. You watched him place it in the rewinder and push the button. It clicked into place and you moved over as he waited.
“Hey, Steve?” You spoke up quietly and leaned against the counter, getting lost in watching him remove the tape before repeating the action with the next one.
It was silent until you realized he wasn’t moving. You slowly moved your eyes from his hands up to his face.
“What?”
“I didn’t say anything,” he replied, smirk fully in place on his lips.
“Oh. I was going to say something, right?”
“Yeah, I think so.” He nodded, but who could focus when he was looking like that, like he could tell exactly what was going on in your head. Damn hands. “We didn’t really get a new shipment, did we?”
He turned back to the stack of tapes and your eyes grew wide. Robin giggled behind you and it took a lot of inner strength not to run away from both of them at that moment. It was all playful, of course, but you were suddenly feeling a little attacked by the best friends.
“Well, no,” you said, twisting the bottom of one side of the Family Video uniform vest between your fingers. “I was trying to rescue you from Nicole. It was Robin’s idea.”
“That is unequivocally false.”
You both ignored her.
“I appreciate it, honestly, but did you really think I was going to agree to go out with her?” His question was directed toward both you and Robin.
“It’s not like you’ve been going on any dates lately,” Robin answered.
Steve sent her a glare before speaking. “For your information, Buckley, that is because I haven’t been asking anyone out. I’m interested in someone and I was waiting for them to send me some clearer signals, okay?”
“No need to be so defensive.” Robin threw her hands up and the two stared at each other in what appeared to be a silent conversation before Robin walked to the break room door where she slipped in without another word.
Steve’s attention turned back to you.
“I hope everything works out with them,” you said.
“What?” “The person you like? I hope it works out with them. Maybe now that you don’t have to deal with Nicole anymore, you’ll have more time to figure them out. Unless she tells Tommy and Carol everything and they come up here and we have to have a brawl outside in the parking lot.”
You were rambling. It was actually an amusing image, but Steve didn’t seem to think so considering he was just staring at you with a furrowed brow.
He shook his head.
“Are you doing anything Saturday night? I have the night off and I saw that you did, too.”
You nodded slowly as you tried to digest his question along with his earlier words. Imagined him checking the calendar in the break room to make sure you were both free that night. Wait - was he trying to ask you… was he asking you out?
“I’m not busy,” you said softly, eyes wide as you looked at him.
“Then I would really like to take you out, if you’re interested. I didn’t want there to be any tension here if you didn’t feel the same, but I think practically forcing Nicole out of here was a pretty solid sign.”
You let out a laugh and relaxed.
“To be fair, you’re the one who told her she shouldn’t come here anymore.”
“I just asked you out and admitted that I have feelings for you and you want to argue about who sent her out of here? Are you serious?”
“Communication is everything,” you said teasingly, catching his amused eyes with delight shining in your own. “I would love to go out with you on Saturday night, Steve.”
Steve leaned across the counter and you did the same from the front, hands pressed against each other before he took one of yours in his. His hand was warm and firm against your own, the skin of his palm soft. He played with your fingers and you followed the movement as he spoke. “If you’re not tired of movies, we could go to the drive-in.” “It sounds like you’re trying to park with me.”
He slotted his fingers between yours and squeezed.
“Or - or we could go to the roller rink where there are tons of people around. But I may lose you on the rink.”
“Not if you hold my hand like this,” you said, tilting your head down where they lay against the counter. “I don’t mind where we go. The drive-in sounds nice. Being alone would be great.”
“We can go to the drive-in this weekend and the roller rink next time?”
“Next time? How much have you planned?”
“Everything,” he whispered as you met his eyes. “I was just waiting on you.”

THIS IS SO ADORABLE STFU
Smiles and Videos
Robin x Reader
no spoilers!!
a/n: i fell in love with Robin when she first appeared on Stranger Things and really this is just a little something that i thought would be cute. This is just lil read of a first meeting i daydreamed about and thought i would share. Hope you all are well xx.
"Steve." Robin uttered hand latching out to grab onto Steve's elbow, tugging him to turn where she was looking. "Steve." She repeated, speechless. From where she stood she spotted you walking outside, her heart stopped. "It's her." She squeaked out.
"Robin- Ow- What're you talking about- Ow! Let go!" Steve scowled shaking her hold off of his elbow, her nails digging into his arm through his jacket. Finally looking to where Robin was so enormed with. You walked in, eyes trailing over the shop until they landed on the both of them.
Next to him, he could hear Robin suck in a breath, looking at her he saw that Robin's eyes were stuck on you and to Steve's surprise, she was utterly speechless. Her mouth was pursed together, fingers nervously tapping underneath the counter.
As you approached the counter you smiled at the pair, "Hi!" You greeted.
Steve knew Robin well enough to know that when she liked someone she wouldn't shut up. Before an awkward silence could settle in, "Hey how can we help?" Steve stepped in when Robin stood stiffly to the side.
"Oh well I was just wondering if I could open an account?" You asked leaning on the counter. Steve bit back a smile when he heard Robin's breath hitch.
He clapped his hands, "Of course you can! I've got to just uh- sort some... videos out, so uh she can help you!" With that lame excuse he grabbed Robin and shoved her in front of him then grabbing a box and disappearing to the back of the store.
Smiling you turned your attention of him and onto the girl in front of you. "Hi."
Robin's mouth opened and closed for a second before she cleared her throat, realising how odd she just may look. "Hi! I- uh welcome. Sorry, what was it you wanted." She stuttered out, embarrassed that she had been distracted by how pretty you were. Without thinking she added, "I'm sorry brains just a bit slow at the moment- today. I mean it's not always slow. Actually it kind of usually is- Just right now it is just not functioning properly... god I'm rambling. Right! You wanted to open an account." With a nervous smile cast your way she grabbed the keyboard and booted up the computer. She tried her best to keep her mouth shut but then, "Are you new to town? If you don't mind me asking. I've just never seen you before and personally I would remember someone that looked like you. Not to be creepy or anything- oh jeez. I've just seen you walk past a few times. That- that doesn't help. Okay I'm rambling again." She nervously laughed, eyes locked on the computer screen as she waited for it to load. "Hurry up." She scolded biting her lip.
You started laughing at the way she nervously rambled, finding it amusing that before, all she was doing was looking at you but now her eyes never seemed to leave the screen. "You're cute." You complimented before answering her, "And yes I am new." Hearing the compliment her face started turning red. Whipping to look at you, seeing that you were already focused on her, heat crept down her neck.
Her mouth flew open, "I'm cute? You're cute- Like oh my god, you're gorgeous and cute- like wow- okay I just-" Robin clammed her mouth back together stopping herself from digging a deeper hole, suddenly growing ridiculously hot. Once the screen was booted up she cleared her throat looking at you, your pretty eyes looking at her. Licking her dry lips she asked softly, "What was your first and last name." A small smile quirking on her lips.
A wide smile fell on your face, she really was so fucking cute. Clearly nervous as she looked at you. Not like you were any better, you were probably just as nervous as her and from some miracle, you were doing a good job of pretending you were fine and chill. Those times that she had seen you walk past, you were actually supposed to come in and make an account earlier in the week but you were just to anxious. "Y/n L/n." You answered.
"Y/n." She tested your name in her mouth. "Pretty." She muttered to herself not thinking you heard.
Heat raised to your cheeks as a small laugh left your mouth, "That's correct," you confirmed. Asking how to spell out your name she was careful with typing it out in the computer, mentally memorising it. "So can I know your name? Or is this a one-sided deal?" You jokingly questioned.
Her mouth fell open in disbelief, "Uh yeah- I mean no- Wait- Yes you can." Letting out a breath, "I'm Robin." She answered smiling at you. You doing so back.
"Robin." You repeated, "Pretty." You mimicked the way she had said it earlier. She didn't think you heard that. A giggle left your mouth seeing how Robin's face once again returned to a shade of red.
Letting out a shaky breath she shyly smiled at you, "So uh what movie you thinking of renting?"
You shrugged, "Well I was hoping you could recommend something?"
At that she perked up, "Of course! What're you in the mood for?" She rounded the counter to stand beside you. "A little bit of adventure? Sci-fi?"
You smiled watching how excited she was, "Show me some options."
She jumped in excitement, "Great yeah! I can do that! Okay! This way!" She sang. She started leading you to different parts of the store, rambling about some of the films she favoured. You eagerly listened nodding along with what she way saying. By the end of the little tour you had picked two movies.
After she put the videos in the computer. You both continued to talk to each other,
"I haven't seen you at the high school." She mentioned.
"I start Monday. My family and I have been busy moving things and getting stuff sorted." You explained.
"Oh I see." She said, pausing for a moment to think. "Well uh, if you don't know anyone else yet, you could always come hang out with me." She nervously offered, biting her bottom lip. She wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to hang out. She was used to people not really liking her. Even now, she wasn't sure if you liked her or not and was just being polite. But when yours eyes lit up at the invitation, relief flooded her system.
"I would love that! Thank you!" You exclaimed, "That would be great!" Before you could say anything else your eyes went to the time on the wall, you had been in the store for nearly two hours. "Shoot I gotta get going. Well I'll see you Monday, yeah? Thanks for the help Robin." You waved as you hurriedly left the store. Robin waved leaning on the counter as she watched you go, resting her cheeks on her hands.
Her heart was pounding in her chest, her mind going back and thinking of the little conversations you guys had and oh god, she was obsessed with the way your eyes lit when you smiled.
"Yeah she definitely likes boobies." Steve commented beside her. Casting her out of her day dream, she sent a glare his way.
"Seriously? Gross." She glowered at him standing up.
"What!? I'm just saying how it is." He protested. "Did you not see the way she was looking at you? Or how she actually, genuinely laughed at your- well- my corny jokes." He explained hands on hips, correcting himself.
She pursed her lips looking up at him not fully convinced, leaning against the counter. "I don't know."
An exasperated sigh left him, fingers digging into his temple in frustration then he pointed at her vest, specifically at her badge. With her name on it. "Robin she asked for your name when it was right there." Robin went to open her mouth in defense but Steve held up finger, "before you say anything, I saw her look at it twice. Twice! Before she asked for your name."
Robin was stubborn and refused to believe him, the door to the store opened, you hurried over to the bickering pair who didn't seem to notice your presence. You caught the last of Steve's sentence. "She does like you!"
"Hello?" You piqued up, a small smile on your face. Immediately their eyes snapped to you. Robin's eyes nearly bulged out of her head.
"Oh god, please tell me you weren't standing there long." She asked, holding her breath.
Laughing, you shook your head. "Ha! No, I was just here to give you my number." You explain sliding over a piece of paper. "I've gotta go but give me a call if you're free later?" You say stepping back.
Robin tried to act casual, drumming her fingers against the counter, "Ah okay cool!"
"Alright sweet, see ya later maybe?"
She eagerly nodded, "Yup, see you later." She waved as you left. As soon as you were out of eyesight she snatched the paper, unfolding it. She found your hand writing cute, your name was scribbled above your number and there were little hearts at the corner. "Okay maybe she does like boobies." She admitted a smile on her face, refusing to look at Steve's, i-told-you-so face.
