Prompt for Ellie and aster . They haven’t seen each other in 10 years . One day they do . Ellie is ruining late for a pta meeting at her 8 yrs son school . Aster happens to be teaching art at the same school . Theybump into each other that day. Aster is determined to get closer to Ellie . But she has to deal with the other single moms that are after Ellie too . Ellie is a famous author and a single parent . Trying to find a balance . Hopefully aster can help her out

“No” The reply was probably too abrupt, too forceful. But Aster couldn’t help the way her chest welled at the thought of this evening being their last. It was ridiculous, she had gone nearly a decade without even the slightest hint of this woman and now, on the precipice of returning to that, Aster loathed the idea. “Unless that’s what you want. Maybe I’m needy and selfish but I’m not ready to let you go quite yet.” There was a brief pause before Aster added, “Either of you.”

Around them, the night traffic continued on, some undoubtedly upset over the abrupt pause in their stride and the sidewalk space they now occupied. A notable rock jutting out of a fast-flowing creek. Aster could take it back, she thought. Possibly bring them back to the gentle banter of the night. If it were years ago, she likely would have done just that, slinking back into the light of comfort whilst dying a slow, inward death from the poison of the lie.

With baited breath, Aster watched as Ellie combed aside the light brown hair that clung to the sleeping boy’s forehead. “Sometimes it’s okay to be selfish.” Ellie smiled softly.

“Good.” Aster exhaled the breath she hadn’t realised she was holding.

“Good.”
