Sabrina’s eyes narrowed viciously at Dare. At this point, it didn’t matter who she directed her anger at. She just needed to get it out, and Dare waltzed right into her path with his dumb laugh and ‘fucking tragic.’ “Don’t Brina me!” she snapped at him. “I was taking a nap, and someone just smashed this right in my face. It was such a cheap shot.”
dare was used to being yelled at. at this point, being snapped at had no affect on him and he could simply just brush it off. “yeah, it probably was a cheap shot or whatever, but it’s a prank war, sabrina. people are going to have to do whatever the fuck they need to win.”

@darejpg // Sabrina flounced up to Dare’s room with a satisfied smirk on her face, her boastful news dancing on the tip of her tongue. Halfway up the stairs, she already sang loudly, “Oh, Dare, I have something to tell you!” She giggled as she burst into his bedroom without knocking, but when she caught sight of him, her attitude immediately shifted. “Oh, god, I’m so sorry. Um.”
there’s no way around it: dare’s fucking sobbing. every now and then, his emotions hit like a freight train and truly, there was no way for him to handle it except for him to let it out. the thought of the holidays without his mom always fucked him up even if he was surrounded by so many people he loved. dare tried to cry it out in the privacy of his bedroom and wasn’t expecting sabrina to barge in so suddenly. “sab, shit, hi,” he quickly greets, hands wiping tears from his face before resting back in his lap. surprisingly, dare isn’t the kind to act all macho as soon as somebody sees get emotional. “no, no, what’s up?”

“AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” There weren’t enough exclamation points in the world to capture just how Sabrina’s scream transcended space and time. For a young woman who managed even to breathe dramatically, her antics neared stratospheric at times like this. Witnesses swear to god steam billowed from her ears as she stumbled into the hallway, covered in the collateral of the prank. Face flushed, she demanded, “All right! Which one of you did this?!”
the thing is, dare was saving up for a grand finale. he wasn’t sure exactly what it would be (something involved with fire, hopefully), but until then he was preserving his energy and resources while helping his team in the process. while he wasn’t the one that induced sabrina’s shriek, he sure as hell was going to see what did. “wasn’t me,” he answered honestly, hands throwing up in surrender. “i’ve got to say though, whoever did it is a mad genius. you couldn’t see a pie to the face coming? fucking tragic, brina.”

who the hell just forgets about the prank they had set up only minutes before? francesca flores, that’s who. she’d just wanted to make an escape and film the poor sucker who walked into her trap, but now she sat by the door, completely drenched as she cursed the bucket-pulley system she’d spent almost a half-hour trying to put together, all of her effort for nothing. “please help,” she said as someone walked in, looking up at them with the most pity-inducing pout she could muster.
“oh fuck,” dare simply starts, greeted by the sight of a soaked francesca. while he had so far been spared of being the victim of a horrendous prank, it now looked like francesca couldn’t say the same. “if you want, yeah. i’ve got you,” he hesitantly offered, opening the linen closet nearby and grabbing a few towels. even if francesca and dare weren’t on the best terms, they were still stuck in the same house and now, stuck on the same prank wars team. the least he could do was offer her some sympathy right now. “what the hell happened? who got you?”

ericsmh:
eric had been sitting down in the sofa across the piano, his legs up while he nursed a book he hasn’t been able to keep reading ever since dare walked in to play. he glanced up at the sudden interruptance of tunes;; being the other’s roommate came with perks and for eric, the biggest one was listening to him play. he could recognize the notes and arrangement, but he could never play them like darren did– still, he had been enjoying the little show, it gave him a sense of normality between them he’d been craving after that happened. raising a brow, eric adjusted his glasses with his index, his deep tone carrying a hint of a smile. “ darren, remind me again the list of things you actually do plan for. ” of course eric bought him a gift. it didn’t matter if he’d get one back or not.
truthfully, dare would perform for eric for hours on end if he could. while he felt comfortable playing anywhere at any time, he truly enjoyed playing for eric the most, especially because he had a musical bone too. truly, eric just defied a lot of dare’s standards. eric was the one person that could call dare by his full name without getting hit. if anything, he liked eric calling him darren. it made him feel special. speaking of special, dare hadn’t thought much about... the situation since it happened. really, he didn’t feel like he needed to. just two bros helping each other out, right? “i mean i got one for you, but the others? shit, eric. they’re out of luck,” he responded with a chuckle. “what’d you get the others? spill. i need ideas.”

“hmph, okay,” she said, not really care either way if he got her a gift or not. to her, friendship wasn’t measured by gift giving even for the holidays. so she wouldn’t hold it against dare in the slightest if he actually did forget. “sorry, you’re gonna have to climb your way back to the top again, buddy,” she told him, reaching over to pat him on the shoulder. “i dunno. i like socks. i like… stupid things.”
truthfully, dare seldom received gifts as a kid. whenever he did, it was the specialist of occasions and he felt like the giver truly cared about him. while part of him knew gifts didn’t measure anything, the concept still meant a lot to him. “no, no, socks aren’t stupid,” he responded, head nodding in sincerity. “they’re one hell of a gift. something you can use all the time, you know? if you consider socks a stupid gift, i’m not even sure i want to know what else you consider stupid,” dare added with a chuckle.

jude had been in the process of letting dare’s playing lull her to sleep, sprawled out on the couch on her back and slowly drifting off, only to blink back awake at his comment. she pushes up on her elbows to get a good look at him, frown weight down the corners of her lips as she says, “… i mean… i think so. it’s christmas. jesus died or something, we have to celebrate.” she tilts her had slightly as she asks, “what do you mean by you didn’t plan?” jude pulls combs her hair out of her face as she clarifies, “like do you mean you haven’t bought presents yet or that you didn’t bring money for presents? because if it’s option one then we can just go get presents. and if it’s option two, i can lend you the money.”
“yeah, shit,” he remarks at the realization, nodding his head as his eyes lock on the piano for a moment. dare should’ve known better than to forget especially when spending the holiday season with his friends, but it simply slipped his mind. “gonna be fucking honest with you, a little bit of both... but i’m not letting you pay for gifts for other people, no, no. i’ll figure it out.”

francesca had been looking forward to this trip up until the very moment she found out dare was coming, too. nothing sounded worse, she thought, than being stuck in fucking cabin with her dickhead of an ex-boyfriend, but bailing on the group would feel like defeat, and if francesca flores was anything, it was spiteful. she’d been planning on avoiding him for as long as she could, but the close quarters made that near impossible, and it wasn’t long before she heard the familiar piano key sounds she’d become so accustomed to while they were dating. “i wouldn’t have expected you to get me anything,” she said in answer to his question, her arms crossed over her chest as she eyed the flame burning from his lighter, “nothing important, anyway.”
truthfully, dare wasn’t entirely thrilled when he found out francesca was coming to the cabin either. despite this, he was dead set on coming. he wasn’t going to drop out simply because francesca is coming, especially because he needed this getaway more than anything. “well i only got three people a gift so,” he reasons, shrugging his shoulders a bit as he sat back on the piano bench. even if they had their differences, dare wasn’t willing to ruin the trip because of it. they’d just have to deal with each other as much as possible. “you get anybody anything?” dare questioned, trying to make conversation in attempts to ease whatever bad vibes were seemingly filling the room.

loganslee:
LOGAN BUMPED HER shoulder into his as she sat, frowning at the mock annoyance in his tone. “ If you don’t want to cater to my every whim, you know where the door is, ” She added, adjusting herself on the bench and staring at the keys. Clearly, she had no idea where to start. “ Go ahead, work your magic. Transfer the information to me. Through osmosis, maybe, so I don’t have to do too much. ” She remembered a few keys, vaguely, from the piano lessons she’d been forced into as a child by her mother insisting she did something else than the math homework two grades above her and watching Star Trek reruns, but her begrudging attendance moreso meant it was in one ear and out the other.
“well you’re lucky that you’re my most promising student. my piano legacy is replying on you, lo,” dare responds with raised eyebrows, a soft laugh escaping his lips. he truly didn’t want to get kicked out either. even if she was just joking, dare really would have done whatever he asked just so he could stay in the cabin instead of going back to live with his aunt. “alright, we better get on this shit then,” he says, taking a second to run over the song in his head and bobbing his head from side to side to figure out the arrangement. thanks to logan, he’d heard the star wars theme plenty of times during the duration of the trip. “okay, just do what i do and this should be pretty easy.” with that, dare slowly plays the opening keys to the theme, stating the name of each key out loud as he does so.

“Uh, I’m pretty sure it’s not that easy. There’s like a lot of cables, and if you have to get a password just for the wifi, then who knows what goes into setting it up,” Sabrina said, giving Dare a scrunched look that read, this is obvious! “I guess you’ll have to check my story and find out. Give me back my phone, you giant!” she bat at his arm while she jumped up to reach her phone. She didn’t stop until he handed it back in her clutches, and she wore a satisfied grin on her face. With a smirk, Sabrina started to run toward the cabin and called back over her shoulder, “Race ya!”
“okay, well if you order it then maybe i’ll be fucking nice and set it up. that way i don’t have to become a walking satellite every time you need to post,” dare offered, shrugging his shoulders as he readjusted the duffel bag draped over it. even if he made it sound like helping sabrina was a chore, he was really more than willing to do so. “well fuck, looks like i’m losing this one,” dare remarks loudly, throwing his hands up in joking defeat as he walks to the door of the cabin as slow as a sloth.

lindybentleys:
Here was the thing: Lindy thought the music was really pretty. Here was the other thing: Lindy could not sit fucking still for the life of her. She compromised by doing a headstand against the wall, weight balanced on her forearms. It was from this angle that she answered, upside down as she said, “Oh, fuck. I definitely didn’t get anything. Maybe the present can be the friends we made along the way.”
dare had been so enticed by his own playing that he entirely missed the fact that lindy was doing a whole ass hand stand on the wall. after his small verbal crisis about gift giving, he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as he noticed. “oh, i like the sound of that. can i fucking steal that idea? yeah, i’m stealing that,” he responds with another laugh. “i guess we’re giving the same gifts this year.”

cavendizh:
being an artist had its perks, one of them was using her sheer talent to make things instead of burning through what little amount of money she had. she usually made her friends art, framing it or something, customized to the person. so she didn’t go broke using money on something other than fruit gummies and stupid socks. “did you not get me anything for christmas, dare?” murphy pouted, and leaning her elbows onto the piano. “that’s so not baller of you.”
dare sincerely wanted to treat his friends to numerous gifts, but his forgetful mind and empty bank account didn’t seem to get the memo. with snow starting to set in on the roads and his incredibly invalid driving abilities, he knew he had to figure out something local and cheap. “no, no, maybe i did. you’ll just have to see,” dare responded, not even entirely caring that he didn’t cover himself well. “my baller status has been revoked. god damn it,” he replied sarcastically, but his lips curled into a grin. “anything you’ve been wanting for a gift? enlighten me.”

loganslee:
LOGAN LEANED AGAINST the piano, not so much as to bother dare, but because it made her feel like the protagonist in some movie with too few time travel plots for her to be interested in. something fancy, maybe french, that her dad would like. “ um, MY present to you all is letting you stay here rent free. ” her smile remained bright. “ but obviously i got everything someone else. and i’ll take … ” she tapped a lone piano key closest to her for emphasis. “ you teaching me how to play the star wars title theme. which really, if you think about it, is another gift to you. ”
dare truly didn’t mind when people watched him play. if anything, he truly loved the attention and even recognized that he was pretty damn good on the keys. “yeah, you’ve got us covered then,” he responded with a chuckle, leaning back on the piano bench as his hands fell into his lap. “looks like i’ve got some shopping to do then too.” he silently hoped that impromptu piano performances or a cool stick found in the woods would suffice as a present. “yeah, yeah, sit. let’s get this over with,” dare agreed in a fake annoyed tone, even though he clearly was excited to teach her. he scooted over on the bench just enough for logan to take a seat and patted the open space with his hand.

Sabrina rolled her eyes at Dare’s suggestion with a small laugh. “What do I look like to you, some kind of tech genius? How would I even set a router up?” she asked. The December chill already crept up her spine, and she had to cross her arms over her chest to get warm, but it added to the look she passed Dare. “It’s not going to take that long, relax. It’s just, like, a two-second video of me and Murph singing along to ABBA in the car–see, it’s done, thank you!” Sabrina rose to her toes again, reaching for her phone in Dare’s hands.
“you just plug the fucking thing in, don’t you? it can’t be that hard. you could get one from amazon or some shit. or you know... enjoy life without wifi,” dare offered with a shrug, head tilting to the side. even if he teased her, dare understood her love for the internet. it’s why he didn’t entirely mind having the cold air run up his shirt. “yeah, yeah. what song though?” as sabrina reached for the phone, he stood on his tip toes for a second so she wasn’t even close to grabbing it, but gave in and plopped it in her hand a moment later. “let’s get inside. it’s fucking freezing out here.”

piper-ycung:
Piper watched their friend carefully knowing his love of fire. They knew that Dare wouldn’t burn the place down or anything, but fire was not something to play with. They leaned back on their elbows, enjoying the warmth coming from the flames. “No stress. Warm fire. A winter away.”
“yeah, it’s going to be a hell of a break,” he responds, eyes locking on piper for a moment before they locked on the fire. “i’m just real fucking glad to get away from campus, you know? sucks ass that we have to go back in a couple of months.”
