Comfort (BtF Chapter 5)
“The return of the wings!” Pearl cheered. Grian sat on a stool, swinging his legs awkwardly. “Oh you know I always loved them as a child.” The two of them were in Pearl’s colorful living room, having wanted to discuss this new development.
“Yeah…”
“What’s wrong?” She asked, jumping up from her couch, having sensed the glum tone of voice from her brother. He took a deep breath.
“It’s just - it drags up a lot of childhood memories that…”
“Aren’t the best?” Grian nodded.
“And also I totally forgot how to take care of them, and I don’t want to lose my wings again.”
“I know, it’s hard. But it’s always been you and me, against the world.” She rested her left hand on his shoulder and swung her other arm out as if gesturing to an audience. He just sighed.
“I’m just so tired. Too much has happened recently.”
“I know, sesame.”
“Don’t,” Grian stood up, puffing his wings out indignantly, “call me sesame!”
A silence.
Then they both collapsed into giggles.
“Okay, now I know that to cheer you up, I can just call you sesame.”
“Literally, if you call me that again I will send Scar after you.” Grian threatened once the laughter had subsided.
“I don’t think that would cause you any more comfort,” Pearl teased.
“Ah well.”
“Get over here,” she said suddenly. Grian raised his eyebrows but didn’t deny, coming over to the couch and plopping down. Pearl pulled him in so that his head was resting on a pillow. Gently she began brushing through his wings, taking care not to mess them up even more.
“They’re just like I remembered, except a whole lot bigger.”
“Hmmf.” It was not a sound of indignation, more like contentment.
“Are you actually comfortable right now?” Pearl asked suddenly. Usually she didn’t get to see the more vulnerable part of her brother, and it was usually the mischievous exterior that was shown to the world - not that that personality wasn’t enjoyable.
“What? Nooooo.” Grian sat up, a faint flush spreading across his face.
“Don’t lie to me,” Pearl said, a little teasingly. Grian shrugged.
“Okay, maybe. You brushing my wings feels very comforting, I don’t know why. Your fingers are cool, i guess. Temperature-wise.”
“Then get over here and let me give you some sibling love.” Reluctantly (or maybe not so much) Grian lay back down, closing his eyes and letting Pearl brush her fingers through his matted feathers, both murmuring soft conversation until they fell into a comfortable silence.

Burning Passion
As an avian, Grian decided that his good deed of the day would be to cook dinner for him and Scar - after all, providing food was an act of true love!
Unfortunately… Grian had the cooking talent of a doorknob.
See, Scar was the cook in their relationship - he made the best pastries and had a good hand in savories too. And he always made food that Grian could eat - again, being a bird he had certain dietary restrictions.
“I’m home!” Scar trilled, walking through the doorway and hanging up his coat, slipping off his shoes. Grian panicked. “What’s the burning smell?”
“Absolutely nothing why don’t you go check on Scarland or something?” Grian asked, hysteria creeping into the bird’s voice.
“I was just there - Grian, did you try to cook again?” Scar walked into the kitchen where said man was flapping his wings, trying to put out the fire. From the oven there was a whole lot of smoke pouring, and the oven was on at the same time where there were some charred bits of what could have been food. The elf sighed.
“Okay, firstly, turn off the stove while I grab a water bucket.” There was the beep of the electric stove turning off while Scar filled a pail with water from the sink. He opened the oven door and splashed the contents over the smoke, it fizzled out violently.
“There was a fire too but I put it out, but then these things started burning and I panicked and-“ Grian said, rapid fire, and Scar swore he saw the silver of tears in his hazel eyes.
“No no no- you didn’t do anything wrong!” He wrapped an arm around the shorter’s shoulders and pulled him in for a hug.
“I just wanted to make something nice for you, but I can’t do anything right!” The muffled voice said.
“I appreciate the gesture. Don’t beat yourself up like that, you have other things you’re amazing at. And hey- you can cook. You make amazing sweet sesame rolls!”
“But that’s not dinner…”
“It doesn’t have to be dinner. Why don’t we go to Pearl’s house and have something with her - it’s too late to make anything now and she’s always got something ready.” Scar asked. “Or we could eat out somewhere else.”
Grian hesitated, then nodded.
“Don’t tell Pearl about it - I don’t want her to make fun of me.” He mumbled, again leaning into Scar.
“I won’t. Come on.”

Aussie Soup (prequel to yesterday)
Chat: It’s the girls of HERMITCRAFT (oh yeah)
Pearl Moon: Hey Stress, you available any time soon? Stress Monsterin: Yes luv? I’m free Friday morning and Thursday evening! Pearl Moon: Okay, that’s fine. I need your help with something. Gem Tay: Why not me? :( Pearl Moon: You can come too lol Gem Tay: Nah, I’m busy anyway Cleo Zombe: So much noise for an omelette, Gem Stress Monsterin: I’ll visit you Friday at 10 am!
Pearl was anxiously waiting for Stress in the living room, supplies strewn on the table. She checked the communicator; 9:57.
Honestly the worry was pointless, but Pearl was a very punctual person and being late stressed her out.
“I’m here!” Stress sang, flinging open the acacia door dramatically and plopping onto the couch, causing the pillows to bounce cheerfully.
“Let me get you some tea.” Pearl went to the kitchen and returned with two cups of ginger tea.
“This is good! Now, what is it?”
“I wanted some help with sewing a pillow cover, and since you’re good at sewing…”
“I’d be so glad to help? What’s the goal?” Pearl took what appeared to be a folded white cloth from the table and unfolded it, revealing it to be a rectangular pillowcase.
“Grian gave me some old feathers of his and I thought I’d sew them on here in a design to add some colour and personal touch to this place. More of it anyway.” Indeed, Pearl had already built a very colourful place - contrary to the grey that was associated with her name.
“Hmm, sewing feathers onto a pillowcase might be a bit difficult - but it’s nothing we can’t handle! Have you decided your design yet?” Bit by bit, the two women worked out the design and plan, Stress showing her friend various stitches that might be useful.
They met up every weekend (and sometimes Wednesday), and Stress always made some remark about her progress in sewing. There really was a noticeable difference from the bottom to the top as Pearl got the hang of sewing.
A month later, it was done and Pearl was ready to show her art to Grian.
•—•—•
“B of the Double of the O100-” Grian started, swooping into said man’s base.
“Please never refer to me as that again.” BDubs proclaimed, jumping up from his green velvet armchair.
“Either way, I need your interior design skills to be put to my use.”
“…Alright, what exactly is it?”
Grian took a deep breath.
“How exactly would one design wall art with wooden soup spoons?”

guess what fuckers I posted it to the wrong account
Pearl and Grian Being Sibs
Pearl was at her base with Grian. As siblings there was a moral obligation to hang out at least once in a while. And not that Pearl would ever admit it, but she enjoyed these sessions however much she pretended to be annoyed every other month. They’d been sitting in companionable silence for the past couple minutes.
“You know how you’re really annoying?” Grian said suddenly. Pearl looked at him like ‘gee, thanks’.
“Yeah, but you honestly can’t say much.”
“See, I’ve devised a way to find out who’s more annoying.”
“And you’ve been doing this instead of working on your base?” Pearl teased. Grian fluttered his wings so that they smacked her. “Fine.”
“It actually came to me when I was cleaning my room. I found a whole lot of feathers that have just fallen off. And I don’t want to throw them away. So I thought you would like them.”
“Yes, I want them, but what does that have to do with how annoying I am?”
“I knew you would want them. But I didn’t feel like being that easy to work with. So every time I’m annoying, I get to give you a feather. The catch is, every time YOU’RE annoying, you have to give me something.”
“I can work with that. You’re really annoying anyway. But what do I give you in return? I don’t have a whole lot of something.”
“You DO have a whole lot of wooden soup spoons that you buy since you make a lot of soup.”
“I don’t have that many…” her brother raised his eyebrows.
“Here.” He opened a nearby cabinet and pulled out a box from the bottom that was half as tall as he was (which honestly wasn’t saying much), filled almost fully with soup spoons.
“And I know that’s not the last of them. You’ve got another box around here somewhere, I know it.”
“Okay, fine.” Pearl admitted. “Maybe I do have a thing for wooden soup spoons that I can’t do anything with.”
“Excellent! So whenever you’re annoying, you have to give me one of them. The other catch is that you can’t purposely be less annoying.”
“Deal.”
Four months later
“Why’d you call me here? I was going to show you something at my base.”
“Well, I’ve got to show you something first, then we can go to your pile of rocks.” He fluffed up his wings in indignation.
“Okay, what?”
“I made some art with your feathers! You always have a lot of big blue feathers, medium red feathers, and little yellow ones, I’ve noticed. So I designed the perfect pillowcase!”
Pearl proudly pointed to a rectangular throw pillow that was sitting on a shelf. It depicted the Australian flag, but rather than the white of the stars and Union Jack, it was yellow. Grian walked over and stood on his toes to better see it.
“Wow. Those are all mine. Of course it’s beautiful.”
“Unfortunately you don’t have white feathers, but yellow’s close enough.”
“Oh, you could have just asked if you wanted white feathers.” Grian closed his eyes for a couple seconds, and before her very eyes the yellow feathers became white in a rippling motion from the inside out. The girl’s mouth dropped open.
“You’re telling me that if I wanted to make a Canadian flag I could just ask you for a lot of big red and white feathers?”
“Yup. Avians can shift wings and wing colours.”
“Annoying pigeon.” In response, his wings shifted blue grey - like a pigeon.
“We should go over to my place,” Grian said, shifting his wings back. once he decided that Pearl had gaped enough.
“Funnily enough,” he remarked as they traversed through the nether. “I made some art with your spoons too.”
“Great to see that they’re not just collecting dust anymore.”
“Oh no,” he said very seriously. “They’re still going to be collecting dust, just in a cooler way.” Pearl snorted.
“Here we are!” Grian said, heading to his living room. The white walls used to be blank before, but now one was decorated. The spoons had been arranged in a pattern with spiral arms extending from the center all the way to the edges of the wall. They’d been painted various shades of green, too.
Floating shelves (which upon closer inspection were made of soup spoons) were stuck in between the arms, and they held cute succulents and photos of various Hermits (Pearl and Scar occurring a lot). As expected, the parents were absent.
“That’s a very BDubs style accent wall, I’ll say that.” Pearl quipped.
“He did help me with it, actually. Not that that makes it any less good.”
“No, you’re good. Stress actually helped me with mine as well.” They turned to face each other, plopping down on the couch.
“So what we learned is that we’re both really annoying.”

You Won
(By Tumblr account of what happened, i actually have not watched Secret Life for a while.)
The thunder sounded. But Scar didn’t hear it.
Pure Red-life rage consumed the usually gentle elf, tinting the world a bloody scarlet.
He laughed maniacally. “I’m coming for you, Pearl!” He shouted into the valley, his voice echoing back from the dusty green grasses of the savannah, they echoed back his heavy breathing.
She’s dead Scar.
What?
A voice - Grian’s voice - was in his head, resounding yet soft.
You won.
I won.
I…

Slime Farm - AI Written, Human Edited
Etho was working on his latest project in the Hermitcraft server - a giant slime farm that would produce tons of slime balls for his redstone contraptions. He’d spent hours digging out a huge area and placing slime blocks, pistons, and observers to create a complex harvesting system.
He was proud of his work and decided to test it out. He flipped a lever and watched as the slime blocks started to move and push the slimes into a water stream that led to a collection point. Etho grinned as he saw the slime balls piling up in the chests, but there was still just one thing to do - efficiency check.
He grabbed a stack of ender pearls and threw one at the wall, teleporting to a lower level. There, he spotted a major problem.
Oh no, some of these slimes aren’t getting pushed.
Etho frowned and decided to fix the problem, obviously. He placed some scaffolding and climbed up to the slime blocks. He also noticed that some of the observers were facing the wrong way and not detecting the movement of the blocks. He quickly broke them and replaced them with the correct orientation. He hoped that would solve the issue.
He jumped down from the scaffolding and threw another ender pearl at the wall, teleporting to the upper levels again, flipping the lever. He watched as the slime blocks started to move again and push the slimes into the water stream. He smiled as he saw that the problem was fixed and the farm was working perfectly, up to standard. Another Etho win!
He decided to celebrate by making a cake and sharing it with his fellow hermits. He gathered some eggs, sugar, wheat, and milk from his storage system and crafted a cake. He placed it on a pedestal and wrote a sign that said "Free cake for everyone! Enjoy! -Etho". He left the cake in a visible spot near the shopping district and hoped that someone - or multiple people - would find it and enjoy it.
Side note, I am totally not sure if this breaks any laws by posting this on Tumblr, but I am NOT claiming this as my own. If this breaks any codes of compliance, please let me know :)

Clarity
It had been a long day of work and building (and Decked Out runs) for Etho, and he was ready to retire for the day. Dying did certainly take a toll on a guy.
He slipped off the mask, happy to be in the comfort of his own home, and replaced his contacts with black framed glasses. He hadn't really told any of the hermits that he wore contact lenses - they’d never asked!
The Canadian was scrolling through social media on his communicator when someone knocked on the door. He put the mask back on and padded over to open it.
“Hey Etho, I j- oh!” Xisuma started, then exclaimed.
“What’s up?”
“I was going to ask you if you’re going to bring lunch to Saturday’s meeting, but I didn’t know you wore glasses.” Etho touched the bridge of his nose.
“Oh, right, that. Yeah, I was planning to anyway, but if there’s free food, count me in.”
“I think we need to talk about the glasses though.”
“X, you wear a visor over your head 24/7 - are the glasses really that unexpected?” Etho brought the admin to the couch so he wasn’t standing in the wind.
“Yeah! No one has ever seen you with glasses on! So do you wear contacts or just suffer through the day?”
“No, I just suffer through the day because I love not being able to see.”
“Void. You look so adorable though!” Xisuma pulled out his communicator to snap a quick picture of the younger hermit, who pulled his hand up to block the camera. “Too late! I got it and am totally posting it in the group chat.”
Etho groaned.

YES!
“Stress…” Iskall said, more quietly than he had been all of the date. He had also been quieter than normal for all of the date, so this was interesting.
“Yeah?” Stress paused her gaze of the sunset to turn to him. His hands were behind his back and he was very fidgety. “Is something wrong love?” The woman put her hands on her boyfriend's shoulders.
“No, I’m good, but… I have something to ask you.” He shook her hands off and knelt in the tall grass - and pulled out the ring box he had been hiding the whole date.
“Stress Allium Monsterin… will you stay for the rest of our lives - and… marry me?”
Stress gasped, blinking back tears of absolute joy. Iskall could see the gears turning in her head, her eyes lit up suddenly.
“I’ll get back to you with my answer by tomorrow morning. Bye!” With that she flew away, the particles of her rocket blowing into his face.
What did I do wrong? She looked happy…
That was his first thought.
But he knew Stress. He knew she loved him; she could never keep a secret if she didn’t. He saw how happy she was, and most likely she was trying to do something different and quirky rather than just accepting on the spot.
That’s how Stress was, and he admired that about her.
So he too flew away from their date spot, wondering how he’d be surprised the next day.
~¥~
Iskall woke up the next morning to the sound of bells. Not the pretty chimes kind, the really annoying ones that villagers used.
He went to the direction of the sound, to the main room of his base, to find a large gift wrapped… square.
And a quickly crafted noise machine, which he turned off immediately.
There was a note stuck on the gift that read, “Here’s your response! Took a while to make it. I’ll see you later, love! - Stress <3”
He opened the pink and white plaid paper to reveal an item frame holding a map. Stress had probably been up late working to create the sign. For in grey blocks above the jungle, read the beautiful word of “YES!”

Hi there!
Semi-daily account specializing in writing short fics about mainly Hermits.
I started this for a few reasons-
I thought it would be cool to do something like this - maintain consistency while doing something I enjoy
I’m not good enough for art ;-;
And to pull myself out of a writer’s block!
Here’s what I won’t do:
Problematic ships (incest, minor/adult relationships, etc)
Extreme gore
Anything 18+
Something I personally don’t feel comfortable with (I’ll explain why)
Otherwise, anything goes, including shipping!
For now, I’ll just post stuff from before that I’ve written.
Try to keep it Hermitcraft, Empires, or Traffic life, as I’m not well versed in many other MCYT fandoms - or fandoms in general haha
Please send me requests :D
