Not my original idea (I think I saw some version of it ages ago), but I am forever thinking about the differences between the winners. There is a clear shift between the first three seasons and those since, and I think it’s reflected in their respective victors: gods versus mortals. Grian, Scott, and Pearl are forces of nature, associated with celestial bodies, powerful being to be feared, stronger than all the others. Martyn and Scar, though? Painfully mortal, the same with Cleo and Joel. They are constantly fighting for their lives, desperately clawing for anything they can get. Everything they have they had to forge from nothing. They’re so familiar with death; while Grian, Scott, and Pearl are unafraid to die, the others know it well. They are well acquainted with its inevitability and refuse to go down without a fight.
Yes, we have the Sun, the Stars, and the Moon, but we also have the Axe, the Bow, the Shield, and the Sword.

A familiar voice sounded from behind him. It did not belong to one of the ghosts.  Slowly, Grian raised his head, turning in the same movement to face the very alive figure watching him calmly, their long hair whipping about in the wind Grian couldn’t feel.  “Ellen,” he said, their name finding its way onto the tip of the tongue before he could consciously think of it. “You… you can see me.” It wasn’t a question.  Their empty eye socket was exposed and bloodied today, no bandages or blossoming flower to hide the unnatural wound. A single drop of red spilled down their cheek like a slowly trailing tear.
From Say Hello To The Reaper Kid, chapter 5.
Felt like drawing this scene with Ellen looking all ethereal XD.

Hi I was the one you reblogged the snails from. Did you tag me as showing up as 'anonymous'? And then did you like immediately change those tags? I might have happened to be snooping on the reblog activity moments ago
Oh sorry yeah for some reason it didn't show your name or picture, it was just the anonymous symbol when you get anon tags. So I tagged it like "what the heck?" But then when I clicked where a name usually would've been, then it did actually take me to your blog, so I figured it might just be something going wrong on my end so I changed the tags to not confuse others. Seems I still got you confused tho haha sorry

Life Series Spin the Wheel Game
Congratulations! You've been selected to participate in a season of the Life Series.
You'll need allies; roll a d4 and then spin the player wheel that many times to see who you end up teaming with (if you get repeats, re-roll). They are only as loyal as you'd expect them to be, given past performance.
Unfortunately, you also managed to wrong someone early on - whether on accident or on purpose - and now they're out for your blood once they turn red. Spin the player wheel again to see who you've got hunting you down later in the season. (If you roll a teammate, feel free to reroll.)
But what's the gimmick? Spin the seasons wheel to see what mechanics, if any, you'll be dealing with. If you get Last Life, roll a d6 to see how may lives you're starting with. If you get Double Life, the first player you rolled for your alliance is also your soulmate. Good luck!

The implications of the (healthy) soulmate pairs post Double Life absolutely never leaves my mind.
For the universe to give each player a soulmate- a built in forever partner, someone they can trust implicitly, someone who they will always understand because they can feel every scar left on their soulmate- and then pretend it never happened the next season is genuinely haunting. How must that feel?
What is it like, to look into their eyes and not know what they're thinking? To hear them speak and not be able to trust a word they say? To bring an axe down on them and feel nothing? Set what they've built ablaze and know it's not your problem? How does it feel, for them to be just another player?
How does it feel, to not be theirs anymore? Or were you ever theirs at all? Did the bond mean anything, or was it just an arbitrary string tied by some cruel observer for the fun of it? If it's the former, what does that mean for your own identity? If it's the latter, what does it mean for everything you had together that felt so real?
Does it feel empty? Like something's missing? A steady tug that should be there, suddenly cut?
Or does it feel like freedom? Like pushing through a wave of manufactured fate and just finding yourself on the other side?
How does it feel knowing it wasn't your choice? None of it? That the string was both tied and cut without your consent? That there was nothing you could do to stop it, and nothing you can do to get it back?
Genuinely, what is it like, to be connected to another person so entirely, and then, with pointed stones or roaring flames or gnashing teeth, wake up alone?
I'm just genuinely haunted by the implications of Double Life guys, do you hear me-

enough paintings of saints where they're looking heavenward in ecstatic agony or down with love and mercy on their onlookers as they ascend. we need more paintings where the martyr is looking accusatorily directly at the viewer.
