The mystic art of Hakan Hisim
The mystic art of Hakan Hisim is a combination of his imagination and manifestation of his reality, Turkey-based visionary artist, Hakan. Moving on from his album and E.P. covers, wearable art projects, motion videos of all the aspects of psytrance culture and visionary artworks. He is one of the few unique artists of his time.
Lets first start talking about your newest piece Conception (2016), This image was inspired and then merged with the logarithmic visualization of the observable universe created by Artist Pablo Carlos Budassi. And, this artwork will also be exhibited at Boom Festival Visionary Art Gallery this year.
What was your original inspiration for this piece? Was it something you’d be planning or thinking about for a while? I mean how did the idea come to you?
When I first saw the original image Pablo had created, it really inspired and moved me deeply to create an image based off a circular cosmological model. It was not planned but spontaneous, I immediately contacted Pablo and got his blessing to create a new piece based off his creation. The additions I have made to the image are inspired by the Kundalini Force and the idea that the universe is not a random alienated event but rather part of a sentient cosmic network pretty much beyond our current model of reality.
Being from Australia, what was your perception of Turkey before you came out here?
It was strange to say the least. I did not know the language, and had almost no knowledge of Eastern and Middle-Eastern cultures.
Australia is an interesting country, full of natural beauty, beaches, barbeques and beer. Having grown up in Sydney long before the advent of the Internet I did not have much knowledge of the rest of the world and its cultures, so moving to Turkey (even though I’m Turkish) was a very challenging period in my life.
Looking back, I am glad my mother took the desicion to relocate allowing all of us access to both Europe and the Middle East after years of living in a Housing Commission area invested with gangs and gang culture.
I was so removed from Turkish Islamic culture that when we first moved to Istanbul, I thought the “Call to Prayer” sounded from the mosques in the city was some sort of depressing music that was played in public areas for some strange reason.
You’re known for works that mystical and other dimensional messages. Why are these issues important to you?
My childhood and youth consisted of periods studying Jewish Mysticism and Kaballah and particularly the last few books in the Bible.
I believe this created a fertile inner world infused in dreams which allowed me to cultivate a more mystical view of the world.
I was deeply immersed in “real” RPG’s with “real” people rather than on the computer and Internet. Dungeon’s & Dragons also opened up a mystical esoteric world where I would first read of other dimensions and ancient mythologies.
I have had a long fascination with written languages and symbols, especially those that are indecipherable for some reason or another since my childhood.
I used to fill little notebooks with strange texts and symbols that would come to me in that moment or in my dreams.
I feel that reality is based very firmly on written and spoken languages, and that words have a much more powerful effect on our lives than we like to think. This intuition coupled with my dreams and later on visions is the main reason I keep integrating them into my art.
What reactions to your work have pleased you the most over the years?
Years ago I would be very happy when someone found parallels between my artworks and the visual aspect of the Tryptamine trance. But these days I love reading messages from people who tell me that my art has inspired and catalyzed change within their own lives.
Which artists inspire you and why?
Hieronymus Bosch, Kris Kuksi, Yoko  d’Holbachie, Salvador Dali, H. R. Giger, Ernst Fuchs, Ihti Andeson, Brian Froud, Andrew Jones, Arnold Böcklin, Chet Zar, Andy Thomas, Ben Ridgeway, Cryptik, Joma Sipe, Alex Grey, Tony DiTerlizzi, Luke Brown, Keerych Luminokaya.
These are a few of the artists that have inspired me deeply throughout the years, These artists have created a unique world unto their own, a creative continuum of unique aesthetics. This is something I always strive to create in my own artworks.
How did you come to work with Nomad, and how did your name become world-wide known?
Both happened around the same time. Soon after I finished creating my piece “Serpentine Apotheosis” I entered it into the Alchemistas Visionary Contest to get it published. It was an amazing time for me as a new world of visionary and mystic artists opened up to me. My artwork was one of the highest voted pieces and was very well received, commented and shared on social media websites.
Pouyan Khosravi is one of the amazing artists I met at that time who had also entered the contest, and soon after he introduced me to Franck and Nomad Wear. Nomad Wear also had a very large impact on my growing reputation by sharing my artworks and creating beautiful wearable art from them.
You have become known for being quite silent (as you clearly prefer your art to speak for itself). Why is this?
I did not know that 🙂
I’m generally a very shy person and due to having spent half my life in the east and the other in the west I have mastered neither language, so I prefer to express myself visually rather than trying to do it verbally.
I’m not a very social person, and quickly get bored in social situations. A perfect day for me would be to spend it balanced between enjoying time in the forest or beach with my family and in my studio creating art.
Many people recognise the work you do for various artists album covers, festival flyers and videos . What can you tell us about how you have a specific style of repeating images and patterns on your work there?
I am a big fan of artists who create entire worlds with repeating colors or themes throughout their work, like Masters Keerych Luminokaya and Ben Ridgeway. I find that by repeating themes and patterns in series of images, or the entire scope of work the viewer finds themselves in familiar but different terrain, in this way larger story arc’s can be constructed within series of works. Not unlike many tryptamine experiences.
How would you describe the works can we expect to see upcoming months?
I have several pieces I am working on as well as several projects that I am currently setting up.
I have been working on a large digital image for almost a year now which is now nearing completion. Its an image I really like, packed with details and a style that is a bit more evolved then my previous works.
I am also working on a kick starter campaign to fund a project that has been dear to my heart for a very long time: The Universal Transmissions Codex.
If all goes as planned I want to create a special limited edition 300 page book/manual based off my “Universal Transmissions” series, followed by an animated video.
I will also be collaborating in video with my friends and awesome artist collective 1000 errors at Psy-Fi Festival and at the Inavision – Shpongle/Hallucinogen event at Electric Brixton. I will also be live painting at Colors of Infinity Festival, Visual mapping on the main stage at Hexaplex Festival and exhibiting artworks at Boom Festival this summer.
You are an independent and self-produced artist and you’ve chosen to exhibit at festivals  rather than a galleries. Why is this?
I used to exhibit at galleries. I did not always make Psychedelic Art. Before 2007 I would mainly create oil paintings in a sort of abstracted surreal style. During that time I did exhibit at several art galleries and large art fair’s such as “Istanbul Contemporary”. I quickly found that the world of “High” or “Fine” art was not for me. Contemporary art has too many issues to  list here, add that to a country where art has little to no respect and several “Art Tycoons” who keep spitting out “art” created by a clique of artists half a century ago, discouraging younger, more creative and enterprising artists to penetrate the scene.
As I moved onto digital painting I found another art world revealed to me within the seductive psychedelic hedonism of transformational festivals, a place with a little less judgement and more creative potential than the world of classical contemporary art.
Why did you choose Istanbul for living?
Istanbul is a magical city. Being a Libran, I am infatuated with balance. Istanbul being the only city in the world that bridges Asia and Europe has been some kind of attractor for me in the past. That being said Istanbul is no longer a city where one can no longer cultivate any aspect of themselves. The rising tide of fundamentalism has really wreaked havoc on this beautiful city, and unfortunately time has come to move onto more fertile grounds.

Sãnhadjä/ NOMAD INSPIRATIONS
Inspired by the nomad and bohem culture and mixing these concepts with spiritualism….  Sãnhadjä’ s artistic ,unique and interesting creations are combined with specific materials starting especially with leather, natural cotton, linen and other natural pieces. As their saying “each material reinvents itself over the collections.”
Tell us a bit about yourselves, your background and your brand when did you released it?
My name is Charly, I’m a French designer.
I live in Toulouse in South West of France.
Passionate about Art in general in all its forms, I studied Graphic Arts.
Several years working as a graphic designer-illustrator, I have used the drawing and painting but in parallel I needed to create objects or clothing.
So I decided to develop my brand after realizing some pieces for friends, then leading to another I received orders which allowed me to buy the equipment.
How did you first become of aware of leather work?
I discovered leather with a friend by meeting a craftsman saddler in France and during a trip to Morocco.
I am self-taught. The leather craft has always attracted me, especially leather goods. Leather is a durable material and texture is very interesting, you can work on in many ways and that is what I like. There are a multitude of possibilities with leather, and I find this very beautiful material combined with other materials such as metal, linen or stones.
In addition, clothes skins ancestral cultures, indigenous or mythology inspires me a lot.
How did being based originally in France affect your brand identity? Something about the city that inspired you?
I like France for diversity of landscapes, the beauty of some places was particularly impressed and could affect the identity of my brand indeed.
The Pyrenees close to my living place, the Alps where I was born but also the Mediterranean landscapes where my family lives and where I lived for many years, are the places that inspire me a lot.
How does the brand continue to stay true to its warrior roots ?
I think his warrior roots are naturally, by my passion for tribal cultures, traditional costumes and ethnic ornaments …
How would you describe your creative process?
My creative process comes down to goings and comings between documentations, rough drawing and experimentations.
I like to mix several techniques, hand sewing, use different braiding and weaving, and practice screen printing craft with the help of Al-x my boyfriends.
Bring a graphic style in my work is important to me.
What i love into this work is to mix different knowledge.
Can you tell us a bit about the latest collection?
My latest collection is called “Arizona,” it’s not over yet, this collection will be done in several stages.
The american Southwest fascinates me, I have not yet gone but I would love to discover this place.
Native American spirit and cultures, desert and arid nature, fashion and bohemian cult of this place attracts me.
I would travel there soon to complete my collection.
Who or what excites you in fashion?
What I like in fashion are the ornaments, I attach great importances to jewellery and accessories.
I have great interest in the hippie bohemian fashion, for festivals, the looks that one can see, the outfits, people are themselves , there is a letting go and i love it!
In fashion some things have marked me and still inspire me today as the work of Alexander McQueen or Psych Rock collection of Yves Saint Laurent.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
I hope one day to live this passion, continue to create unique collections of clothing and accessories, learn other techniques, improve myself in leather work.
Also, i would like to work with a clothing workshop to receive advice and assistance in the realization of my future’s collections.

PANSPERMIA / KRISTAL GUNGORUN
Sound Monsters – are universal team based in Turkey and their main purpose is to bring good sound, give inspiration and kick start for new era.
Sound Monsters Crew and Quantum Digits Records are presenting their first compilation ‘VA Panspermia’ compiled by Oxomo.
Unique and some new producers from different continents of the world, carefully selected tracks and also especially created for this compilation. With their new approach of darkside/ psycore music we will travel both outer space and deep into magma.
In this compilation they’re focusing on Panspermia Theory. Panspermia Theory suggests that; “Seeds of life came from outer space and planets exchanged life. Life can spread from planet to planet or from stellar system to stellar system, carried on meteors.” Panspermia literally means ‘Seeds Everywhere’.
When life has a structure that moves forward and expands with every atom, the so-called ‘smartest’ species of Earth, destroys it’s own kind and other species around it… Is humankind a biological virus or a magnificent species that will evaluate the experience of life and give meaning to existence?
The creative process began with you , then spread to the world-wide artists and labels…Can you please tell us about the process of the making of this album…
This year I started to work with Quantum Digit Records (Canada) and Popol Vuh Records (Mexico) as a dj and visual artist with the name Oxomo. With these two labels support, I started to connect with many artists around the world. After months of searching and listening, I found good and new artists, fresh and interesting sounds. With their nice response and their sending some music for my sets, I had a lot of new tracks from different artists and had an idea to make a compilation and share their new and unique sound with my friends in different countries. In the beginning Otkun Atman from Quantum Digits Records helped me a lot to make this VA real, also all the artists who gave their time and inspiration for new tracks. DigitalX from Cyprus, made the mastering of the album. Good sound and nice artists came together from 10 countries and with a Panspermia Theory we had a concept and idea to send sound seeds from different sides of the world, to bring new and good sounds to more people…
Lets talk about the music…
You grew up on psychedelic music. What stuff did you listen to?
This is a big question . I started listening  Psychedelic Trance almost 10 years ago, in this time music and my tastes changed a lot. With technology, electronic music grew so fast, many artists from different cultures and with possibilities to use every kind of sound, psychedelic trance grew and had many kinds and different good artists from over the world. So Music also progress, changing with time, world, systems and our mind. For me in these years I started to be so specific about the music, I respect all kinds of psychedelic trance but I never really liked FullOn music, but at the beginning there was Goa and than Fullon. Also for Goa Trance, I really respect how it start and grew, there are really nice Goa Trance sounds but I feel like it’s not my kind of trance.
Even when there was no genre as Darkpsy, there was some dark sounds and with Cosmo and Highko,  something started to begin and also with Kindzadza and Psykovsky started to be known. Hitech seeds coming from the beginning of Dark Trance. In time music grew as technology grew, and there started to be more kinds in Darkpsy, soon there were new genres; ‘Forest’ and ‘Hi-tech’ we can also call ‘Cyberdelic’ and last years also Psycore, plus more slower bpm’s and styles as Dark Progressive and Zenonesque. Darkpsy started to be a big genre inside the Psychedelic Trance. I always liked some dark music, even before I met Psychedelic Trance, I was always searching for some dark sounds. Last years I’ve been listening to some Forest and Hi-tech music. I went to many festivals and searched for good sounds, from Forest side for sure there is  Ajja, Arjuna, Atriohm, Derango, Farebi Jalebi, Gu, SpagettiBrain, Frantic Noise, Paranoia Sector, Wayak Nuuk, Sychotria, Orestis, Zik, Insane Creatures and many more nice artists. As Dark Experimental and Hi-tech; Megalopsy, Dark Whisper, Will o Wisp, Kashyyyk, Insector, Osom, Arcek… Last years what I listen mostly was Hi-tech and Psycore, especially with the tribal sounds of Ogoun, Necropsycho, Voronkryon, Calyptratus, Whrikk, Yaminahua, Kaikkialla, Utu, Keluk…
And for me some new discoveries as in the VA Panspermia all the artists, MAramba, Crone, Tabura, Kinetik Flux, Tikbah, Elephant, Hyperekplexia, Miquizitli, Varazslo and Plankton. Also some more new discoveries for me and what I’m listening these last days; Manipadma, Kaya, Simbah, Cindervomit, Yoshua, Maleficium, Cali’Balam , Grimm, Eniko, Midzinko…
I feel like psychedelic trance is like an infinite sound coaster, that can go through and into your ear and it can build a sound labyrinth to coast faster and deeper. This sound labyrinth is elastic and open to change with new kind of sounds and trance…
Be elastic and catch the moment!!! 😉
Tell us about a few of your favorite tracks on this playlist. Why did you pick em?
Oh!! Hard to pick!! They are all great tracks! Maramba, Crone, Tikbah, Kinetik Flux, Plankton and Varazslo they made new tracks for this compilation. I was waiting the tracks with great excitement and it was also a great surprise to me! All was more than what I expected and good performance to produce in short time;  around a month they sent me the new tracks. From Elephant, Hyperekplexia, Tabura and Miquiztly I chose the tracks cuz they had some nice tribal and ethnic sounds and really strong, different style .
For me the track from Varazslo is really surprising, it’s a great sound maze with a good balance. But I especially try to find artists from different sides of the world, even from far they can dance on same the line, as for the listener from all over the world, all tracks has some cultural influences and that’s one of the reason I think; anyone who likes dark trance can find some track to love in this compilation 🙂
What makes a great psytrance tune?
For me as a listener, I like to hear some strong and good bass and interesting melodies , effects from the nature and culture, Psytrance is open to use any kind of sound in the tracks as effects or melodies.  Definitely all the construction need to have a story at the end, which will take you to a sound journey. The thing is, even the chaos needs to have some symmetrical or asymmetrical design, which will give a meaning to the chaos… If not, our ear will search and build on it 😉
If you could go back in time and experience any psytrance musical subculture or scene in any city, what would it be and why?
If is time travel in Psytrance history, most probably where this culture started ; India, Goa. Because psychedelic trance was born in Goa as GoaTrance. For sure I’d like to also see what happened at the beginning and how the culture grows in all the countries. Here in Turkey we are actually the people who saw how it started and grew in Turkey last 10 years, that makes you see how underground culture moves and give a chance to create and  share the ideas. But if you ask for now, as a festival traveler, I can not choose any city for live this culture, cuz now there are festival cities, that always change their land,  some of us live in a dream land that always changes and moves with all the people in festivals around the world. Now it becomes a traveling city, we go and build the land for a week in the festivals and always there is another one around so place is always moving. What is better than to have any city which is moving with a psychedelic music, life and family on the Earth!
Tell us about the coming events? Where will you be performing this summer?
As sound monsters crew, we will have our promo party for VA Panspermia in september 2016 and with the new season we will make small parties and family gatherings, will update infos soon on our sites 😉

BRYAN ITCH/The limitless unified reservoir of love
Tell me about the themes you explore in your work
I think a lot of my work is either subconscious or somewhat channeled (for lack of a better word) but I do see re-occurring themes popping up in my fine art work & to some extent in my street art: Reverence for nature, Contemplation of duality, Transcendence of form beyond death, Unity of spirit, Scalability of pattern & form (as above – so below) & the exploration of the inner frontiers. Colour & lighting explorations lend a hint of chaos to the mix and
I love trying to find balance between abstraction and figurative work.
Why is the psychedelic market so inspiring to you?
Ever since I first came across “The Beatles – Yellow Submarine” as a child, psychedelia has been a constant source of wonder and excitement, I ate up a strict diet of surrealism, science fiction & progessive metal as a teenager and turned into the strange specimen I am today.
The word psychedelic’s meaning holds the clue as to why it is such fertile soil (although wrongfully stigmatized) and conversely, why it is generally abhorrent to mainstream minds, as it stands for “Mind Manifesting”. Perhaps if you are not into manifesting what is inside your own mind, you are running from it? That seems to sum up our current society nicely.
How has Australia been so inspiring to you?
I would have to say that the overwhelming beauty of the land and its quite diverse array of ecosystems is a large inspiration, I was lucky enough to grow up in a densely forested area and didn’t realize how much I took it for granted until I moved to the city, I need fairly constant trips to the trees to maintain an equilibrium & recharge both my creative & energy levels.
Australia has its own special brand of weird & a very strong entheogenic/festival community
that keeps me optimistic when the dominant culture starts rolling out the stormclouds.
What small array of cities we have in Australia are inspiring in the sense that they are human thoughts made manifest in a sandbox or petri dish floating by itself in the middle of the ocean. Behemoth techno ant hills rising out of the parched paddocks, churning out strange new cultures which are later cloned and gutted of content, rinsed, spray tanned & sold on mass a decade too late to be dangerous.
I’ m interested in the urban pirates, suburban geomancers & kooky colour punks that flourish as the farmland fades into the concrete…mutant marooned rednecks clawing their way up to civility, keeping things edgy. Participating in the feedback loop is more fun if you get in and engage with culture in its gestation period…lest you end up an echo…hence I’ m caught halfway between the bush and the concrete
There is a kind of outer dimensions and visionary worlds in your work, is that accurate? Are you more interested in the real or surreal?
Yes, that is fairly accurate, although they may better be described as inner worlds than outer.
Some of these works relate to or are catalyzed by plant medicine work, as well as an NDE, I experienced as a child. I am definitely more geared towards the hyper-real, very interested in  what is beyond our everyday perception? What has our society lost, ignored or suppressed in our current market driven illusion? I think the lines are very blurred between what is real and not, to the point that what constitutes my perception of reality could be perceived by a 3rd party as surreal.
Tell me about your favorite piece
At the moment “La Petite Mort” is still closest to my heart. It really captured and evoked the humbling stillness and grandeur of the transcendent state of being we find between the gaps in linear time, when our sense of self is eclipsed by something much bigger and unified. I chose the title to play with peoples perception of the phrase, as beyond the sexual connotations it also a way to describe the ego dissolution encountered with strong medicine work, which in my opinion is just a different means to the same end.
Which colour combinations you like most?
Orange to purple is pretty sexy, as is the teal to purple gradient, That always floats my boat.
Where do you get the inspiration for your works?
The limitless unified reservoir of love, life and knowledge we have mistakenly divorced ourselves from.
Which artists have you been most inspired by?
James Gleeson, Robert Venosa, Roger Dean, Salvador Dali, Alex Grey, Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha, Brian Froud, Gaudi, Daim. Durer, Da Vinci
More recently; Luke Brown, the whole dang Furtherrr gang, Luis Tanami, Adam Scott Miller, Andrew Jones, Mark Lee, Maura Holden, CT.Nelson, Brian Scott Hampton, James Jean, E.Howard, Otis Chamberlain, Jonathan Solter, Peter Westerman, Gabriel Welch & Psybe have all been bringing the magic of late
  What are the future projects?
Apart from the underwater human/dolphin cohabitation colony where we all worship the ghost of John.C.Lilly?
I’ll be getting work together for a solo show, keeping the large scale murals pumping & backing off a little from the stage design and VJ work to focus deeper on my paintings.
I’ m keen to head back to the states asap, as symbiosis blew my mind last year and I’d love to get into some mural work over there.

UNIQUE DESIGN BY NATIV
What’s the name Nativ come from?
Nativ, as you can surely guess, came from ‘Native’, or ‘Nativos’ in Portuguese,… Which defines the essence of our work since the beggining in 2005. We use in our work organic and sustainable materials (like leather – mainly with vegetable tanning, stones, brass, thread, wood…) that refers and bounds with Nature – the core of  Native world.
How would you explain Nativ’s relationship with psy parties?
The relation of our brand with psy parties is quite close. Portugal was one of the pionners of the Psy parties and trance culture with orgs like Goodmood, the founder of Boom Festival, Hipnose and Quest4Goa. We started to go to these parties quite early in the late 90’s and that surely reflects in our work as we saw a necessity of expression of this culture. Gandharva, one of the members of Nativ, was also a psytrance DJ and had a chillout project that also gave its expression in our brand – all of these experiences in this field were the main basis of Nativ brand as a start, and it was reinforced with our visit to Goa.
Can we talk about your fashion evolution? What were you doing at the beginning of your brand and how it evaluate itself?
Ah… the beggining! It’s funny because we never thought we would follow this path… both of us graduated in History of Art here in Portugal and we always thought we’d find something in that area. But  as we used to make some handcraft as a hobby and we had several pieces, one Summer we decided to sell it with some friends in Zambujeira do Mar, a portuguese festival. We saw this as a way to make some money for the time and spend it having some fun! The thing is that people loved our designs and we started to develop it, taking it seriously, searching for better materials, ergonomy, durability, quality. So we took the opportunity and… here we are today. And we’re glad Destiny took us this way because we feel complete and happy. In the end we are creating, making Art and this is so important to us!
Trance culture has very much about a mentality and music, how did clothing play into that?
Our pieces integrate themselves in the trance culture as a way of expression and affirmation in that area. We try to make them reflect the trance spirit  and to communicate with people as they see them. The trance culture, especifically psytrance,  is closely attached to cosmic conscience, to spirituality, Nature and the state of Peace; and what greatest form of expression is there that Art in its own way? Because we cannot forget that Psytrance is not only about music, it states in a multiple way of forms and we grabbed a bunch of those cosmic bubbles of inspiration to develop our work and give shape to that feeling through our pieces. You can feel it in the stones of our macrame jewelry (as stones have the ability to emancipate certain powers like protection, cleaning and feeling of peace) and in the design of the leather pockets with all its symbolic references, as we also try to integrate the elements of Nature – the native and primitive form.
Can we talk about your recent brilliant designs? What you give importance to, the details, the layering…
Our recent designs are a fruit of time and evolution, due to our travelling experiences in Thailand and Goa, following creativity as it appears. The necessity of making something different and something that commits the spirit of our customers and the Nativ philosophy, comes out naturally. We inspire ourselves in other cultures, like the egyptian, celtic and Nordic, the (obviously) portuguese, indian and others.
The aesthetics never overlaps the function, as it is very important the maximum good use of the piece. We take great care in aspects like ergonomics, durability and quality; the look of the piece is natural in the process. So, of course the details are important as it gives the personal touch of the brand – and we cannot forget that the looks of it is what sells in the first place! But we also want our clients to feel really good when they wear Nativ pieces! That’s what makes our brand unique. Let’s also not forget the symbolism that we make sure to include in the items – this season we included the Isis Eye, the Triskle and nature elements (like flowers) in medallions that we designed ourselves, made in brass – this year we decided to use only brass as it is a metal that doesn’t rust and it is a trend nowadays!
Who are your style icons?
We really don’t have specific style icons! Our ‘icons’ are all those people, smells, feelings and surroundings that we see and feel in our travelling experinces; it’s a multicultural set of influences!
What are the best parties or festivals you ever saw?
The best parties that we’ve been to were the first ones in Portugal because there you could see the true spirit of sharing, peace and trance (or transe); the Boom Festival, of course, where you see a reunion of several tribes; the parties in Goa are also a great inspiration and it’s where it all began; and the parties in Koh Panghan in the middle of the nature, that brought us a wonderful feeling of happiness and Trance!

After Image (Conclave Records / UP Records) Australia
When and where were you born? I was born in Lismore, NSW, Australia… A cool afternoon of Sunday the 31st of August 1986
How you got involved in psytrance? I was involved in the local music scene in my hometown, mainly focused on Metal and Punk music via the Radio station we were lucky enough to have at high school. I was shown at the time some very commercial Trance and some Goa Trance, which didn’t inspire me much but the Goa trance planted the seeds. It wasn’t till many years later till long after the live music scene in my hometown had died out (Cairns FNQ, Australia) and I ran into a close friend of mine who showed me the groundbreaking album of Hydraglyph- Kinetic, when he played this album to me I was spellbound, and from that moment forward I was hooked…
What were some of the key events that got you involved in psytrance? Some of the key events that shaped my career into psytrance and electronic music…hmm… Well at the top of the list would be the Cairns Winter Solstice festivals, these festivals run by friends of mine where legendary, with huge line- ups and insane crew from all over the world. Since these festivals, I have been involved a lot more behind the scenes, and could sit here all day mentioning more of my favourite festivals, including Doof and UNITY from Israel, or Tree of Life here in Turkey, or even Rainbow Serpent in Australia.
What is the story behind the name of your label? Conclave ˈkɒŋkleɪv’ (noun) “A meeting of those with power”
So in my mind the meaning behind using this as the name for the label we launched earlier this year, is to denote that we have power, and in meeting we can utilize that power for the greater good of the world. We are unique in that we do not release any music in 440 Hz tuning, so focusing more on the tunings of 432 Hz, 424 Hz and 427.7 / 428) Hz etc… As well as a predominant focus on alternative harmonic scales, that usually have quite a uniqe sound to them, and example could be like pythagorean perfect fifths, where it is based on a corrected (mathematically) pythagorean scale. As a label we do not have restrictions on genre but more on the elements stated above, and thus we have quite a rich source of music that is slowly being pushed out (while the finishing touches are made). I am really excited for the next few months as we have some really amazing releases coming soon.
UP Records, Australia I am also a representive dj in Australia for UP records, which is literally “Unreleased Psytrance”. Quite a big label with a big past, with plenty of heavy hitting morning Psytrance, featured on the label. It gives me something that is not so serious as some of the Conclave records sounds, and can be some of the most fun music I have yet to play.
What is some of your most ‘psychedelic’ or life-changing experiences so far? Hmm difficult question, there have been soo many… One of the most life changing experiences I would have to say, would be when I had the pleasure of playing in Israel, in a cave, whilst playing my own original music. It was a milestone event for me as it was a journey to get to this event, and was run by my now label partner in Conclave Records. As for my most psychedelic event, I can think back to one messy morning in Cairns, at the last Winter Solstice I made it to, all I can say was that Tetrameth was playing some killer sound, and the punchbowl had quite the combination of right ingrediants, you could tell who was drinking the “juice” as that whole side of the dancefloor was very sidewards… but that is all I am going ot say on that matter.
What are some of the greatest challenges you face? What are the rewards? Some of the challenges that I have faced, include being so far from home a lot of the time in my travels, general small mindedness of some of the scene out there, and a lack of interest from promoters as they seem to prefer to hear a lot of the same sounds (or artists) that are booked at each and every event, and sometimes going without something to eat, or somewhere warm to sleep (in the past)…. But…. this is not really a big problem as the reward is that scenes I have run headlong into have always seemed to have a incredible impact on. Giving these scenes new ideas and concepts to be ingested into the whole. Also it is always a massive reward to look up during any set and seeing the smiles and love coming from the crowds, regardless of what music might be on the menu for that set. It always makes everything seem worth the struggle, to see people enjoying themselves.
If it wasn’t psytrance, what would it be? Well I am one of those oddities, that doesn’t just stick to Psytrance. Being trained by old school dj’s to be able to play anything for any time of day and mood. Having a large collection of music of electronic (and other tastes) and an eclectic tastes for music, allows for myself as a dj to cater to all moods and feelings. As well as be able to express my mood through any type of music. Additionally it allows me to play at multiple events, or multiple sets at festivals (which is always alot of fun). But if it wasn’t electronic music than it would still be metal (and a guilty fact is that I sometimes still open sets occasionally with metal, but rare these days compared to Australia where it is a bit more of a signature…) and some of the other artists from my label are old school metal heads as well, so can be great fun when we catch up and go to festivals (as it is playing in the campsites…)
Which one of your releases/tracks are the most characteristic of your sounds or stand the closest to you for some reason? Hmm another difficult question, but one of more recent releases (other than that on Conclave Records) is that of the track I did with a really close friend of mine (a brother from another mother), Cosmic Flow (aka Nitrodrop / Nitro) from Israel, and the track “Tears of Joy”, featured on his Innerspace EP (X7M Records). This track was a special one for us, as it was the first track we worked on together after many years of talking about doing so, and after a wild night hanging out, I managed to accidentaly kill my main production and music drive (a disaster while on the other side of the world from the backup drive), so upon waking the next day and finding out the horror of what had transpired. I found myself launching into the studio with him and creating the opus that is “Tears of Joy”. This track became a staple to both of our sets since, and I have seen it play in some special events (including at Doof Festival last year, where it rained pretty much the whole festival, until he started to play his Nitrodrop set, immediately the sun came out, things started to dry out, and all of a sudden it warmed up…until the end of the set, when “Tears of Joy” hit the first drop, down came the rain with extra strength, making us both see that even the heavens wanted to weep for us… That was something extra special for both of us.) Upon release it went straight to number 01 in the charts for about a week, before moving down to Number 02 where it sat for a few months… Which is massive for both of us, and we look forward to getting the opportunity to write the follow up to this massive hit. What are you working on at present? Upcoming? I myself at the moment, am mainly focusing on working on things for the label as we are about to release our first compliation via Conclave records, a few years in the making, it features some of the best artists from around the world who are writing in 432 Hz, also out at the same time is the new album from Interconnekted, and the debut album from Daviel. So we have a few busy months ahead of us. Before I head to Back to Nature festival in May. Also I have started creating events in Istanbul, mainly at Club Temple (which has such a unique and calming atmosphere). So I recommend everyone keep an eye out for these events, as they will definitely be ones that you will remember.

THE 7 HERMETIC PRINCIPLES
“The Principles of Truth are Seven; he who knows these, understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose touch all the Doors of the Temple fly open.”  -The Kybalion
THE PRINCIPLE OF MENTALISM.
THE PRINCIPLE OF CORRESPONDENCE.
THE PRINCIPLE OF VIBRATION.
THE PRINCIPLE OF POLARITY.
THE PRINCIPLE OF RHYTHM.
THE PRINCIPLE OF CAUSE AND EFFECT.
THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER.
The Principle of Mentalism
‘This Principle embodies the truth that “All is Mind.” It explains that THE ALL (which is the Substantial Reality underlying all the outward manifestations and appearances which we know under the terms of “The Material Universe”; the “Phenomena of Life”; “Matter”; “Energy”; and, in short, all that is apparent to our material senses) is SPIRIT, which in itself is UNKNOWABLE and UNDEFINABLE, but which may be considered and thought of as AN UNIVERSAL, INFINITE, LIVING MIND. It also explains that all the phenomenal world or universe is simply a Mental Creation of THE ALL, subject to the Laws of Created Things, and that the universe, as a whole, and in its parts or units, has its existence in the Mind of THE ALL, in which Mind we “live and move and have our being.”‘ – The Kybalion
The All, or the Universal Infinite Living Mind is the notion which we consider God or Source Consciousness, and because we are within this infinite mind, it pervades the entirety of every single space, physical or non physical.  In essence, each person or form of consciousness is equivalent to a dream figure in the lucid dream of God.  I understand this is a large concept to swallow, bear with me!
If you have ever lucid dreamed, you would know that when you ask a person in your dream who they are or what they represent, they will actually tell you that they are some facet of your consciousness.  You would also know that a lot of times your dream figures will tell you that their experience is not a dream at all.  Some are more or less aware of their roles in your psychological make up.  Likewise, each one of us is an aspect of God’s mind in that same way; a symbol of a complex concept being expressed in a microcosmic form.  For those who have not lucid dreamed, think of it as this whole universe is an organism, matter and energy are the cells, and we as forms of consciousness are the neurons.
Coming into this knowledge is the most fundamental key to understanding and expanding our consciousness as well as traversing the higher planes of reality.  We must understand that we, and literally everything and everyone else, IS Spirit, or fractal facets of its consciousness.  It is important that we apply this understanding in our daily interactions with others, understand that all other beings are simply another aspect of an infinite, complex, and extremely variant consciousness, and are just as much of an expression of it as you are no matter what form they take.  Allow yourself to be without judgement towards others with this understanding.  Eventually this will cultivate a mindset of unconditional love towards all life.
  The Principle of Correspondence
‘This Principle embodies the truth that there is always a Correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of Being and Life. The old Hermetic axiom ran in these words: “As above, so below; as below, so above.” And the grasping of this Principle gives one the means of solving many a dark paradox, and hidden secret of Nature. There are planes beyond our knowing, but when we apply the Principle of Correspondence to them we are able to understand much that would otherwise be unknowable to us. This Principle is of universal application and manifestation, on the various planes of the material, mental, and spiritual universe — it is an Universal Law.’ – The Kybalion
With this principle we become aware of the fractal nature of the universe in which a similar pattern of phenomena repeats across all scales of existence.  This phenomena can be synonymous with the musical note octaves on a piano, in that each note is repeated in the next set or dimensional plane with the same vibrational quality but on a higher frequency.
Usually, interaction with one element may cause a resonant reaction on higher or lower planes, as certain qualities in parallel planes correspond to one another like musical chords.  This applies to sound, color, thoughts, emotions, chakras, and all forms of spectrums that exist throughout the universe.  This is a great segue into our next principle.
  The Principle of Vibration
‘This Principle embodies the truth that “everything is in motion”; “everything vibrates”; “nothing is at rest”; facts which Modern Science endorses, and which each new scientific discovery tends to verify. And yet this Hermetic Principle was enunciated thousands of years ago, by the Masters of Ancient Egypt. This Principle explains that the differences between different manifestations of Matter, Energy, Mind, and even Spirit, result largely from varying rates of Vibration. From THE ALL, which is Pure Spirit, down to the grossest form of Matter, all is in vibration — the higher the vibration, the higher the position in the scale. The vibration of Spirit is at such an infinite rate of intensity and rapidity that it is practically at rest — just as a rapidly moving wheel seems to be motionless. And at the other end of the scale, there are gross forms of matter whose vibrations are so low as to seem at rest. ‘ – The Kybalion
Understanding vibrational frequency and its application in our spirituality is crucial.  When we are dealing with negative thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, we must grasp that these things are dense vibrations within our minds, keeping us in a low vibratory rate of consciousness.   If they are vibrating, they are emitting sound, light, or rippling out in some form of wave.  If we are constantly emitting these sorts of vibrations, our outside world, which is essentially still MIND, will resonate with our mental experience, causing those same sorts of low vibrational experiences to manifest physically.  In the same way, if we are radiating positive, loving, and blissful forms of vibration, our reality will follow suite.
Essentially, everything in existence interacts with its components through rates of vibration.  Dimensions, in a simplistic way of understanding, are different octaves of vibration, in which the consciousness inhabiting those octaves perceive things relevant to their mental state, perspectives, beliefs, and level of awareness.  This is why many of us cannot see the astral plane or things like ghosts, auras, and spiritual entities, because we are not vibrating at the same rate as them and cannot resonate with those experiences.
Our minds are like radio tuners for different channels of experience.  We can turn the dial by shifting our attention and intention towards different actions, different thoughts, different mental states and different beliefs about our reality.  Reading this right now is essentially tuning you to the frequency of these higher planes, expanding your awareness to allow your mind to resonate with their concepts, and thus allowing you to hold consciousness within them.
  The Principle of Polarity
‘This Principle embodies the truth that “everything is dual”; “everything has two poles”; “everything has its pair of opposites,” all of which were old Hermetic axioms. It explains the old paradoxes, that have perplexed so many, which have been stated as follows: “Thesis and anti-thesis are identical in nature, but different in degree”; “opposites are the same, differing only in degree”; “the pairs of opposites may be reconciled”; “extremes meet”; “everything is and isn’t, at the same time”; “all truths are but half-truths”; “every truth is half-false”; “there are two sides to everything,” etc., etc., etc.
It explains that in everything there are two poles, or opposite aspects, and that “opposites” are really only the two extremes of the same thing, with many varying degrees between them. To illustrate: Heat and Cold, although “opposites,” are really the same thing, the differences consisting merely of degrees of the same thing. Look at your thermometer and see if you can discover where “heat” terminates and “cold” begins! There is no such thing as “absolute heat” or “absolute cold” — the two terms “heat” and “cold” simply indicate varying degrees of the same thing, and that “same thing” which manifests as “heat” and “cold” is merely a form, variety, and rate of Vibration. So “heat” and “cold” are simply the “two poles” of that which we call “Heat” — and the phenomena attendant thereupon are manifestations of the Principle of Polarity.
The same Principle manifests in the case of “Light and Darkness,” which are the same thing, the difference consisting of varying degrees between the two poles of the phenomena. Where does “darkness” leave off, and “light” begin? What is the difference between “Large and Small”? Between “Hard and Soft”? Between “Black and White”? Between “Sharp and Dull”? Between “Noise and Quiet”? Between “High and Low”? Between “Positive and Negative”? The Principle of Polarity explains these paradoxes, and no other Principle can supersede it.’ – The Kybalion
With the concept that extreme opposites are simply the poles of the same thing, we can cease to have a dualistic perspective and instead view these phenomena as spectrums or sliding scales of vibration.  Once we understand that, we can begin to use what is called Mental Alchemy or Mental Transmutation.  Unlike the traditional view of Alchemy in which you change different base or undesirable metals into Gold, we polarize the negative thoughts, emotions, and mental states into positive ones (The prior definition being a hidden allegory for the true meaning).
This is one particular field that I will be continuing to study and give you my interpretation of so that you can all benefit.  It will probably be one of our last topics discussed in this series, as it can profoundly change our perspective and our experience and must be used with sufficient knowledge.
  The Principle of Rhythm
‘This Principle embodies the truth that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, to and fro; a flow and inflow; a swing backward and forward; a pendulum-like movement; a tide-like ebb and flow; a high-tide and low-tide; between the two poles which exist in accordance with the Principle of Polarity described a moment ago. There is always an action and a reaction; an advance and a retreat a rising and a sinking. This is in the affairs of the Universe, suns, worlds, men, animals, mind, energy, and matter. This law is manifest in the creation and destruction of worlds; in the rise and fall of nations; in the life of all things; and finally in the mental states of Man (and it is with this latter that the Hermetists find the understanding of the Principle most important).
The Hermetists have grasped this Principle, finding its universal application, and have also discovered certain means to overcome its effects in themselves by the use of the appropriate formulas and methods. They apply the Mental Law of Neutralization. They cannot annul the Principle, or Cause it to cease its operation, but they have learned how to escape its effects upon themselves to a certain degree depending upon the Mastery of the Principle. They have learned how to USE it, instead of being USED BY it. In this and similar methods, consist the Art of the Hermetists. The Master of Hermetics polarizes himself at the point at which he desires to rest, and then neutralizes the Rhythmic swing of the pendulum which would tend to carry him to the other pole.’ – The Kybalion
Rhythm is a direct result of the nature of vibration, as the oscillation between two poles in any given scale provides an environment in which energy can shift from one state to the next and back again with equal proportion.  This teaches us of the importance of balance in the universe, because without rhythmic proportion, we are unable to measure and identify the different states that energy can move between and how they directly relate to one another.
Another way to look at it is that this principle recognizes the heartbeat or the symphony of the universe.  If we learn to ride these innate universal rhythms consciously, we can begin to work in harmony with the universal energies rather than have them work against us, being apart of the music or flowing with the current to achieve our conscious expansion.
I have personally understood and used this principle to polarize into my higher self for long periods of time while denying my ego self reign over my thoughts, but this is far from mastering the principle.  As we delve deeper into the series, we will explore this principle’s application together and maybe new ways of ‘rhythm riding’ can be unearthed.
  The Principle of Causation
‘This Principle embodies the fact that there is a Cause for every Effect; an Effect from every Cause. It explains that: “Everything Happens according to Law”; that nothing ever “merely happens”; that there is no such thing as Chance; that while there are various planes of Cause and Effect, the higher dominating the lower planes, still nothing ever entirely escapes the Law. The Hermetists understand the art and methods of rising above the ordinary plane of Cause and Effect, to a certain degree, and by mentally rising to a higher plane they become Causers instead of Effects. The masses of people are carried along, obedient to environment; the wills and desires of others stronger than themselves; heredity; suggestion; and other outward causes moving them about like pawns on the Chessboard of Life. But the Masters, rising to the plane above, dominate their moods, characters, qualities, and powers, as well as the environment surrounding them, and become Movers instead of pawns. They help to PLAY THE GAME OF LIFE, instead of being played and moved about by other wills and environment. They USE the Principle instead of being its tools. The Masters obey the Causation of the higher planes, but they help to RULE on their own plane. In this statement there is condensed a wealth of Hermetic knowledge — let him read who can.’  – The Kybalion.
I think that this principle is common sense for most, but many are not aware that it applies on and connects all dimensions of reality.  With this in mind we can begin to see how the universe came into being.  The first cause, the Infinite Living Mind or Source, created a set of causes via VIBRATION to allow many ripples of subsequent  events to intertwine and unfold.  The causes on higher planes began manifesting effects on the lower planes, and our physical universe eventually unfolded in this way.  It is easy to now view the phenomena of this world as having specific serendipitous purpose, even if we are not able to understand what exactly causes them.  Synchronicity is a prominent example of higher plane causation in action, where almost divinely timed experiences manifest in peculiar patterns.
This principle is symbolically (as well as mathematically) represented in the construction of the Flower of Life geometry and its successive forms, as these are higher dimensional blueprints for the denser manifestations of matter to use as templates.  Throughout the series, we will begin to work in accordance with these causes of higher planes, and create our own, rather than be subjected to the causes of this one.  This is so we may become Movers rather than Pawns in this so called Chessboard of Life.  In our next issue, we will dive further into this topic, exploring sacred geometry and it’s use as a form of mental causation and manifestation.
  The Principle of Gender
‘This Principle embodies the truth that there is GENDER manifested in everything — the Masculine and Feminine Principles ever at work. This is true not only of the Physical Plane, but of the Mental and even the Spiritual Planes. On the Physical Plane, the Principle manifests as SEX, on the higher planes it takes higher forms, but the Principle is ever the same. No creation, physical, mental or spiritual, is possible without this Principle. An understanding of its laws will throw light on many a subject that has perplexed the minds of men. The Principle of Gender works ever in the direction of generation, regeneration, and creation. Everything, and every person, contains the two Elements or Principles, or this great Principle, within it, him or her. Every Male thing has the Female Element also; every Female contains also the Male Principle. If you would understand the philosophy of Mental and Spiritual Creation, Generation, and Re-generation, you must understand and study this Hermetic Principle. It contains the solution of many mysteries of Life.’ – The Kybalion
Here on planet Earth, we are very familiar with the many manifestations of Male and Female energy, or Duality and Unity consciousness.  The reason the Masculine and Feminine Principles are so integral to creation is because Source itself is a perfect union of these two concepts.  All created things are but variations of expression, intensity, and vibration between these two forms of consciousness.  The Male principle is the notion of Subjective  Self or the internal, causal, and intangible nature.  The Female principle is the notion of Objective Self, or the external, receptive, and  form of that inner nature.
Male is also the force of giving or push, and Female subsequently is the force of taking or pull.  Do not confuse these definitions with gender discrimination.  We as human beings are also a union of these two principles, as we possess an internal nature and an external form.  Even our minds are split into conscious (male) and subconscious/unconscious (female) and our brains into left brain (male) and right brain (female).  For more on this check out Spirit Science episode 4.
You’re probably wondering why Jordan says that Male energy is Focused and that the Female energy is Creative/Random.  That is just another way this principle manifests in the human psyche, and there are a multitude of others.  There is an even deeper level of understanding for the principle of Gender that will be revealed in the coming articles, so stay tuned.
Now, if we wish to ascend as human beings, the goal is to balance these energies within ourselves, allowing us to resonate with that same balance present in the Infinite Living Mind, giving way to conscious freedom.  This balance is largely achieved through, you guessed it, Unconditional Love, as this is an energy of freely giving and taking with all life through understanding that, as a fractal of Source consciousness, the external universe is also YOUR external form.
And there you have it, the 7 Hermetic Principles.  Study and Mastery of these fundamental laws will bring great wisdom as well as unbelievable power and freedom.  If you have any questions regarding this article or any other spiritual inquiries, feel free to email [email protected] or inbox Ryan Boyd.  If you leave a comment below I can reply and you can also reach my Facebook that way.  I won’t be accepting friend requests unless we have extensive interaction, but I will always try to help with your questions.
