Let's talk about ao3.

People are complaining about the lack of censorship on ao3 but the thing is ao3 (archive of our own) is an archive, hell it is literally in it's name, not social media. It simply stores the fanfics uploaded into it.

If we start censoring fics, who's to say people won't also want to censor LGBTQ themes. Because we all know homophobes view us as predators. Who's to say they won't also censor cursing. Where do you draw the line? And do you think other people would agree with you? Because i think people are searching for excuse and if we start censoring works then more and more would be acceptable to censor.

I'm sure we're all familiar with with the phrase "don't like, don't read" it is the mentality of fandom. Or at least it was and it should still be. Ao3 has a great search engine. The people tag their work accordingly and you avoid those tags if you don't like them. There is literally the option to exclude tags so the works that have them won't show up.

Another thing i saw is some people saying ao3 should have an algorithm to push content. But as i said before, ao3 is simply an archive not social media and it has a great search engine you can use. And it surely isn't a promotional app. I get that it's hard to understand that when you get introduced to fandom through tiktok, which is inherently a promotional app. But not everything has to have an algorithm. Not everything needs to recommend works, you simply search according to what you like and what you feel like reading at the moment.

"Don't like, don't read" is a frequently used phrase in terms of fandom etiquette.

Fanfiction should not be reviewed or criticised like a book or other forms of media. It should be viewed as a gift from the author to you, rather than content to be consumed. Therefore, the author doesn't owe you anything. They are writing the story for themselves and choosing to share it with you. If you don't like the plot, or the characterisation of a character you can simply write it yourself. And that's why fanfiction does nfaot belong on good reads.

Another thing is that in fanfiction the author doesn't own the universe. Fandom spaces are at their very core communal. They're all about community, which kinda gets lost in tiktok because of the nature of the app. It pushes you to want to own something, to have something of your own. Fandom is a space to exchange ideas and build the characters together. And the thing is you could write another hunger games au for the marauders despite crimson rivers existing, because the creator doesn't own either of those universes.

The fact that evan is either written as the asexual/aromantic or an absolute freak in the sheets, is so amusing to me. Because they both make so much sense.

I love her books, they bring me so much comfort. Anyways i was at the pool the other day and i read most of the book. Also, i live in greece and the translated version was cheaper for some reason. Still bought the English version though

i would like to start this by saying that I am myself a marauders fan.

It would be so much better, so much easier for me to say that everyone should stop engaging with the marauders fandom. That they should stop engaging with any part of the harry potter universe as a whole. Because at the end of the day either you profit J. K. Rowling or not you are still keeping her relevant. Your discussion as keeping her work relevant. But i would be a hypocrite if i did that, wouldn't i be? Because i engage with it myself.

I get the appeal of fandom. Especially one like the marauders, where you don't know much about the character in cannon so you are free to have any headcannons you want, or at least you should be able to. Also this fandom , or at least the side of it I am in is. It gives representation, something extremely important in media, especially for teenagers and younger people in general. Representation matters because it makes you feel like you are not alone. That you you are not crazy, but rather there are other people out there like you, that can understand you.

Something very valuable in fandom is that you are free to explore the characters however you like. It is common to find out things about yourself through fandom. Whether that is about sexual orientation, gender identity or even a disability. You can find stories about character you relate to and realise that may you're more similar to that character than you thought. Maybe you share that same identity.

Another thing is the emotional value it plays in your life. Many people can't express themselves freely outside of the internet so they live through the characters or express their true identities in fandom spacies. Other people use the fandom as an escape from reality. A lot of people kin character and they feel attached to them.

Also. A big part of its appeal is the community. You get close with people and can make new friends, you wouldn't of otherwise.

So really, i understand the significance of fandom in a person's life. The key role it can play. So even though this space has many flaws and the writer of the books is a TERF, i understand why a person might not be able to leave it.

So let's work on trying to make our existence in this space as ethical as possible. And yes, it can never be completely ethical but if you are willing to have conversation about your engagement in this space and you do not profit her, like watching the reboot or buying official merch, then you are trying and that has to count for something. So harm reduction or something

I headcannon that regulus has selective mutism. They're parents always said "kids should be seen and not heard".

Regulus not having friends as a kid because because social interaction were confusing to him and he couldn't really speak to them most of the time

Regulus usually being quiet and kept to himself but being a yapper around Sirius. Saying anything and everything that's on his mind for hours on end.

Sirius teaching Regulus sign language (specifically french sign language) for when he can't speak and using as a way to make fun of walburga and orion while still being on the dinner table

So i feel the need to speak up.

I've seen quite a few people misgendering a certain trans person. And while i don't agree with her actions and you will never catch me supporting them, i don't think misgendering her does any good to the community

When you misgender someone because they did something bad, you imply that being gendered correctly is a privilege. That it is something you should earn, rather than something you deserve because you are a human being. You imply that you need to act a certain way in order for people to treat you for who you are. Which does harm the trans community as a whole. Especially when big creators do it. And frankly, it is transphobic.

The thing, is we know she is awful but if we start making it acceptable to misgender someone because of their actions. When we make it ok to be transphobic to someone. Then this will ultimately lead to more harm. Because the transphobes, they want this. They want for the community to divide. And they'll say if the community can misgender someone then it must be ok. Then it must be ok to be transphobic in certain cases. Then they'll start doing the same thing to trans people they don't simply don't like. Because the thing is, there is a line, do not be transphobic, do not misgender someone, but if that line moves then it will move again, even further and there is no way to know where it will be drawn in the end

When you misgender her purposefully, you attack her identity rather than her actions. I've heard people say that she brings bad reputation to the trans community. And i can't disagree because the people who are against the trans community will find any excuse to accuse us as a whole. But i do have to say that there are bad people in every community. Whether you are straight, a person of colour, trans or a lesbian there is surely a person with your identity that is harmful and that doesn't say anything about that group of people. It does say say something about the people commenting on it. About the ones that focus on the identity of said person rather than their actions.

Just a reminder that commenting on a fic, whether it is an old or a new one, is always good. Ao3 is an archive, not social media, the same rules don't apply. It is perfectly acceptable to comment on an old fic. And it shows support to the author. You can comment even on an abandoned fic, who knows, maybe they will finally update it. Or it might just make their day.

I do get it though. The not posting comments. Snd frankly I am guilty of it myself sometimes.

I think refusing to read fics that are not finished is a bit weird. While i get it, you don't want to wait. I do find fun in waiting for a new chapter and getting to interact with the author in real time. And while i don't particularly like unfinished works, i do enjoy the part i get to read. And frankly, if you don't support fics while they're being written, don't wonder why there aren't many fics being written anymore or why so many fics are abandoned. The authors are sharing it because they want engagement, otherwise they would have never posted it online and rather kept to themselves

Oftentimes when i speak I feel like I'm not making any sense. Like I'm not explaining things correctly and the other person cannot follow. Maybe that's just my anxiety speaking who knows.

i absolutely believe that Regulus would be one of those kids that are friends with the teachers.

Like yes, the bell has rang but Regulus is still by ms McGonagall desk.

Sirius having to wait for Regulus because he is talking with whatever teacher he had last period.

Regulus hiding in the library during breaks which leads to teachers knowing him well. And his friends complaining about spending so much time at the library.

Regulus getting bullied, for his style and sexuality amongst other things, so the teachers are complimenting him and trying to make him feel better.

and it's not crazyyy to say that if transphobia is not a dealbreaker for you, you're probably not as pro-trans as you think you are. it's not crazyyyy to say that if racism is only a dealbreaker in the case of your fave lil fictional guy james potter potentially being viewed as racist in the reboot, but it isn't a dealbreaker in the case of JKR's own consistent racism, then perhaps you aren't as against racism as you think you are.

in the name of "separating art from artist", all you've actually done is separate your actions from your words and it's not crazyyyyy for me to then think that your words are just that. words. nothing to back it up with.

i wouldn't go as far as to say you're actively transphobic, but when you acknowledge the harm being caused, say you're against it and then continue to partake in it? i don't think it's crazyyyy for me to say perhaps you don't actually care about us as much as you want people to think you do.

Black brothers moving into the apartment

"siri, I'm fine" regulus says reaching out to grab his crutches from the backseat

"no-" sirius goes to protest but is cut off by a clearly agitated Regulus. Regulus has been pretty cranky the past few days

"i mean it, i truly am" snaps regulus at Sirius, not letting him finish his sentence knowing Sirius will say something about his flare ups

Sirius sighs and forces a chuckle "okay buddy, okay" he gets regulus' crutches and hands it to him once he opens the car door

Regulus huffs and bats Sirius' hand away when sirius goes to ruffle his hair. Instead, regulus opts for grabbing his crutches and getting out the car.

Sirius wraps a hand around his shoulders and kisses Regulus' cheek despite his brother's annoyance

"siri?" Regulus sounds smaller than before

Sirius immediately wips his head around "what ipetite étoilete?"

"what are we gonna do with our things? I can't really-" Regulus cuts himself off and points at himself

"don't worry about that. Let's go find the flat first, yeah? Don't tell me you aren't at least a bit excited"

"no I'm not. I couldn't even eat breakfast because of my nerves. But i guess it's a good thing bee lives just upstairs"

Sirius leaves at that and leads them inside. Although it's not his nature to be quiet, he has gotten used to it for regulus.

"oh- OH" the lift is out.

After a quick conversation between a worried sirius and a stubborn Regulus they take the stairs all the way to the second floor.

By the end Regulus regrets not wearing his knee braces and leans slightly against sirius, hoping the other wouldn't notice

Sirius threads his fingers though Regulus' hair, carefully working out the knots. "How about you rest? Maybe take a nap? Yeah, buddy?" Sirius asks gently while keading inside the flat.

It's rather small but they're only two people and still young so it's fine. The flat consists of a bedroom that's not really separate from the sitting room but the bed is quite spacious. There is also a kitchen and a bathroom that's on the bigger side plus another bedroom. Well, not really. It was a small office but they stuffed a twin sized bed in it. It'll have to do for now.

"I'm not a baby!" Regulus exclaims but melts into sirius touch nonetheless

Sirius pushes regulus onto the bed "rest up buddy. Gonna go pick up our stuff from the car"

Regulus throws a pillow at sirius just as he turns to leave "you bitch. Stop treating me like I'm gonna collapse at any given moment"

Then a realisation hits him "wait, did you just say you're gonna pick /our/ things? That's a lot…"

"it's fine Reggie"

"no, no, I'll feel bad. I can help. Okay, maybe not, but i don't want you to do all the work"

Sirius ends up making multiple trips since there were a lot of things. Around the second one he meets barty on the staircase.

Barty for his part looks sirius up and down with a raised eyebrow. Sirius kinda looks like shit. His hair are put down and sticking in all directions and there's sweat down his forehead. Sirius' has his hands full of packages

"oh, you're finally here" barty says, excitement written across his face and turns on his heels, practically running back up the stairs presumably to find regulus

"seriously now?"

"what?" Sirius can tell by his voice that barty feels like being a little shit today

"not even gonna help me a bit?" Sirius exclaims exasperated, clearly not pleased with the situation

"no. Reggie's more important" and like that, Barty's gone up the stairs

When sirius finally gets all their stuff, he finds Regulus cocooned in blankets and tucked away in Barty's arms, regulus' knees propped up with pillows. There's a mug of steaming hot tea on the bedside table. And Regulus was shooting barty a cold glare.

As much as sirius dislikes barty, he has to admit that he is very protective of Regulus, Reggie, Sirius' baby brother (even if it is only by three minutes) and always takes care of him. So he knows regulus will be okay. Even if Regulus spent most of yesterday night sobbing and barely got any sleep

i actually never ever want AO3 to be censored bc nothing is more fun than reading the tags on a fic and going “huh. didn’t know there was a market for that.”
