i think too many people operate under the assumption that emotions are some frivilous fantasy of the mind and have no impact on the physical world, which is a cute thought when Humans are an animal that can die from being kinda stressed out

it's so funny how at this point there are thousands of 30+ minute zillenial video essays about media/internet artifacts from their childhoods that purely exist so they can go "does anyone besides me remember this". any 'analysis' in these things largely amount to effusive blogging and surface level summary. it's like an overwritten ad. in a better world they would have been able to get this all out of their system in the form of a forum post on a relatively active youth oriented message board.

“kids spend too much time on their devices” well what else are they supposed to do? there’s no corner shops with pinball machines in them on every corner anymore. there’s no malls or stores in small towns for teens to hang out in without being suspected of shoplifting or kicked out for loitering. sidewalks are too broken for them to ride their bikes and there’s no bike lane in the street to make it safe for them. i just don’t understand where they expect these kids to go when they keep taking places away from them. and yes having no safe public places for them is what leads a lot of teens into addiction if they end up at a place where people aren’t truly looking out for them.

working in landlord/tenant law, the one thing that has genuinely surprised me is how many landlords straight up do not follow housing regulations in a variety of ways (I've seen people charging first and last month's rent which is illegal where I am, not posting required notices, not registering the unit, etc.) and all of these things are affirmative defenses if they ever try to evict you for any reason. but how would the average person know that.
anyway I very strongly urge you to look into the basics of housing regulations in your city and state (many times cities have more strict laws than the state, for instance LA where I live has quite a few explicitly pro-tenant ordinances that are not applicable to the rest of CA) just to inform yourself and to be aware of this stuff. if you need help lmk

I think it’s so funny that utena has literally no idea why anyone in the black rose arc got turned into a duelist. Like imagine someone pulls up in an intricate uniform holding one of your friend’s swords and says “HAHHAHA I GET IT NOW ALL OF MY DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM MY HIGHLY SPECIFIC INSECURITIES CAN BE SOLVED IF I KILL YOUR GIRLFRIEND!!!” and it’s sarah from math class who you only vaguely know

The type of people who watched Adolescence and actually thought it was good and realistic would not have survived the Second Schleswig War. Completely unrelated set of concepts that have no link but they wouldn't have survived because not many people knew at the time that trying to bypass the Danevirke would prove to be a mistake that would go on to cost a great deal of energy and eventual lives, lives presumably statistically comprised of those transported back in time to 1864 Schleswig after having watched Adolescence

Me: I don't get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I'm like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?
The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it's the fascism. You're completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you're also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you're going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.
Me: BUT I HAVE A BULLET JOURNAL AND I MEDITATE NOW.
Tiny OSHA Me: BOSS, THE FASCISM.

there should be a tax that youtubers pay where 1.5% of all of their revenue goes back to Kevin Macleod for basically supplying YouTube with it’s own soundtrack.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

Huge shout to my friend from an undergraduate philosophy program who started working out every single day, not for health benefits or to become conventionally attractive or whatever, but because -- and this is a direct quote -- he was concerned that otherwise he might "become lost in the world of signs and forget the things they signify". I have thought about this every single time that I've worked out since.
